Squadron Packs

Recommended Posts

so the clone wars expansions include 'squadron packs" of three ships, themed around an ace and two wingmen.

does anyone else get the feeling that these are going to eventually get extended to the other timeframes of the game, as a sort of spiritual successor to the old Aces/Veterans packs?

for the Galactic Civil war i could see a Black Squadron pack, with a TIE Advanced and Two TIE/LN's, basically the trench run group. or perhaps a Defender and 2 interceptors, themed around the last episodes of SW rebels.

for the Rebellion i'm not sure what would be a good one, but a B-wing and 2 A-wings, themed around either SW rebels or one of the Endor groups would be interesting.

First Order i suspect would be the new FO interceptor from the new show with two TIE/FO's.

Also from what we’ve seen the squadron packs have different paint jobs on them, so we could get a Rebels themed one with a B-wing and 2 A-wings like you said, with maybe a Blade Wing repaint for the B-wing and Phoenix Squadron repaints for the A-wings.

a rebels one might need actual re-sculpts though, given the very different appearance of the ships in it. but i could see a "Blue squadron" or something pack themed around Endor, but including cards to fly Hera in the B-6 prototype, with Wedge and Hobbie in A-wings alongside, or something.  or it could easily be Phoenix Squadron but with new fluff establishing the unit flew A-wings and B-wings at Endor alongside Hera and the Ghost..

no matter what the theme, i would hope that we'd get cards for the Rebels content. it would be kinda neat to be able to have Hera, Wedge, Hobbie, etc in A-wings, and some sort of unique B-wing title letting it be prototype B-6.

Hopefully one of the Rebels Squad packs is Blue squadron from Rogue One with 2 X-wings and a U-wing. I want General Merrick and K-2SO plus all the other pilots from the movie

This would be awesome.

OK, it'd be third U-wing for me, but whatever, i'd buy it anyway.

This, I don't think the absence of Blue Squadron pilots in the Core and the blister is a coincidence.

Resistance could have Black One alongside 2 Red RZ-2 A-Wings, as well as 2 boxes for all the Aces from the show as someone mentioned earlier.

Blue Squadron for the Rebels, or maybe Phoenix Squadron, would be great ideas. Not sure about the other factions though.

I would assume that adding a large ship would displace two smaller fighters. So adding a U-wing would leave room for only one X-wing. Frankly I would suspect that since they already have a U-wing plus X-wing pack, they'd do something different. But hopefully we'll get some Blue Squadron stuff when the U-Wing standalone comes out. the standalone X-wing has Garvin Dreis and Blue Squadron escort already. The standalone U-wing getting Heff Tobber and Blue Squadron Scout seems a given.

Hopefully this time we will get K2 as a pilot for the U-Wing too, and the woman who actually got down to Scarrif with Bistan would be nice as well instead of Heff Tobber who just flew around doing little since he didn't get past the shield gate.

Well it is a way to quickly build a faction, sort of.

The big problem is that squadron packs only bring 1 other ship to the pool. By the time we get to Wave 3 for extended we will have three two 3-ship factions and two 4-ship factions. Scum which is already in the lead for 2nd edition format with 3 ships (4 if you count the escape pod) gets another ship and they get another one in Wave 3. FO is a single ship faction , You can include the 2.0 parts of 1st edition Wave 14 but for 2nd edition formats the number of ships per faction is from 1 to 5.

Basically it won't be until wave 5 or even 6 that the factions start to fill out, which you have to admit it is a pretty slow start. But I guess it takes at least 2-3 waves to fill a faction out so it is to be expected. I mean Wave 3 is when I felt that X-wing has solidified the faction characteristics. Scum which released in Wave 6 with 6 ships (borrowing 4 from the first 2) didn't become a contesting faction until wave 8.

I don't care about HOW we get them

Hmmm... Might I suggest:

There are plenty of people there who would either be glad to assist with customizing your mini's or helping you with tips and tricks for you to do it yourself. :)

Resistance is likely to get the T-85 soon, and the First Order the new FO Interceptor, thanks to the SW:Resistance show.

and the Clone Wars factions have a multitude of fighters to pick from for future expansions.

while i don't think we'll get Squadron packs right away, i do think they will be inevitable. the GCW factions will get re-releases regularly till they run out of ships from 1.0. enough of those 1.0 ships have more pilot options than can fit in a standalone expansion (defender, A-wing, B-wing, X-wing, interceptor, etc) that we're almost guaranteed a multi-pack of some sort in the future for those. and Squadron packs seem to be the way they are doing those now instead of aces/veterans packs. and those packs are also a good place to stick some extras that haven't appeared in the conversion kits, as a further incentive for people to buy them.

I think if the Rebel's get one it will be for X and Y's. It's a good way to add upgrades and new pilots to keep the ships relevant or fill in some of the holes we're seeing and add some synergy options.

Personally I'd like to see blue squadron paint job and pilots, but I'd also like to see some X-wing title cards.

Rogue Leader, Blue leader type of thing. Something to make Wedge feel like an independent ace.

For the Y wings maybe a new turret option.

Certainly for both we could do with some new astromechs to add some flavour.

New B and A wings can come out with second wave expansion packs. I expect the B wing to be a resculpts anyways so we have the s-foils.

I like the concept in general. While they are overall more expensive, they are cheaper per ship, and can be more efficient in tokens provided per ship.

Not cheaper IF you only need one of the ships. I far prefer single blisters or double pack of the same ship.

Y-wing still has a lot of pilots missing, even the ****** Davish "Stay on target" Krail is not in the game.

I don't know that I agree with your definition of 'a lot'. Other than Pops, it's really only Tiree and then Ekelarc Yong and Telsij, who are both only on screen for a fraction of a second. They're on par with Grizz Frix, Keir Santage and Jon D as pilots who are seen just long enough for them to explode.

While you're right that it's an absolute travesty that Pops isn't in the game yet, I don't know if there's a whole pack's worth of pilots to include him in. I think the Pops boat sailed when they decided to include Evaan Verlaine instead.

I guess there's also Wona Goban if we're looking at Rogue One.

Any notable comic or novel Y-Wing pilots I'm missing? I suppose a Y-Wing pack with Pops, Tiree, Wona and some non-movie character would be enough.

Gotta say, I'm not feeling Pops' absence quite as keenly as I am Wes Janson's, Hobbie's or Tycho's. And I say that knowing that even the two that exist in the films are never seen in anything but Snowspeeders.

It seems the least likely of all the Rebel options, but more than anything I would love a Rogue Squadron Pack. Wes, Hobbie, Corran and Ooryl in X-Wings, Tycho and Pash Cracken in A-Wings.

I was thinking Krail, Tiree, Wona Goban and Keyan Farlander at the least, but other interesting possibilities are Leia and C-3P0 if we're going into EU and someone from the Ghost crew, preferably Sabine.
