Return to dunwich legacy question

Recommended Posts

So I know it's not out yet, but has anyone heard anything about them including cards to be able to make the entire campaign in one box, without having to take the cards from night of the zealot?

Basically, I'd love to eventually be able to have all of a campaign in one box (like my LotR) rather than needing to always go back to the base sets and pull cards from them. On one hand, I get it...keep the starter boxes relevant; on the other hand, with the "return to..." Boxes, it's a great opportunity to let us do that.

I have not heard, but I did speculate early on that the replacement sets may enable that.  I don't think the number of announced encounter sets is quite enough to fulfill that, but it could be done other ways, such as replacing Locked Doors with scenario encounter cards.

By design the core set has cards they intend to use in every other expansion. This enables them to need to produce fewer cards in the expansions. I suppose theoretically they could add in "Return To..." boxes some cards to upgrade their core equivalents, but there are just too many, they can't replace all of them without doubling the planned size of the "Return To..." sets. So no, I don't imagine this will ever happen. Not in their current business model.

But if they did produce the filler pack you're describing, I would happily buy it as well. I like "all in one box" for when we're traveling and don't want to carry all of our many, many AHLCG cards with us at once.

This is the same reason most people are upset about having to buy two core sets in the first place. We all want multiples of the player cards, but nobody wants second sets of scenario cards and encounter cards, which all go right into the trash.

There are eight core encounter sets used in Dunwich.  Return will have six, and two of them are for sure replacements for core sets (Ancient Evils => Resurgent Evils, Agents of Yog-Sothtoth => Yog-Sothoth's Emissaries.  I just now noticed the announcement mentions the second one).  One sounds like a Striking Fear replacement.

Rats, Dark Cult, and Nightgaunts are in one scenario each and could be replaced by the new scenario cards.

I think this is pretty likely.

I have analysed the picture of the annoucement, where you can see a pixelised image of the eight reference cards for the product, and just been able to say how many new sets are used in each of them. Then, I just make a probabilty table for say which sets will be replaced.

So, we will have replacement for : Ancient Evil, Agents of Yog, Chilling Cold, Locked Door, Striking fear and The Beyond. So, no replacement for the Rats, Nighthaunts and Dark cult, but as CSerpent says, they can be replace or just getting out because the new cards could do the job better than these one, and all of these are not so much thematic than the others.

The Rats : they appear in the casino of the Bella Luna, place where rich people and rogues play for money in a " high-standing place ". I don't think rats are well placed in a place so goldy and clean .

Nighthaunts : In the dunwich village, but this a scenario where the human menace of the citizen of the town and the scary cry of the whirpoorwills are the heart of the antagonist force. The strange flying creatures are not so good for this one, because not linked to dunwich, or to Yog.

Dark Cult : just in the train, where the vortex is swallowing each train cars. So what does these boys if they don't have a plan for block us, and if the power of Yog is already trying to kill us ?? The Thralls of Bishop would have been more thematic here, because returning to Dunwich, than these random boys.
