A Duck1 0 Posted December 17, 2008 This is a game I've always wanted to have, it's hits all the right spots for me. The only reason I haven't bought it yet is the table space it requires. I recently purchased a new table, with the measurements of 2.10m x 1m, or 6.9' x 3.2'. My question is this, will I be able to play Ti3 with the expansion on this table? Thanks! possumman 1 Posted December 17, 2008 Yes, that sounds like it will be possible. The expansion adds no extra space to the game, and a 6x3 foot board is big enough. If you want to find the real TI3 community, come to http://www.ti3wiki.org/forum/YaBB.pl?board=general.
blarknob 0 Posted December 17, 2008 That would be difficult if you want to run an 8 player game. My group plays on a ping pong table with a cover, it provides enough space.

If you are playing with a 4 ring galaxy, the expansion increases the map area by over 60%. So the expansion certainly can add extra space to the game, if you let it. Stefan 732 Posted December 17, 2008 The table can't be big enough. It should be star-shaped, so you can reach the board comfortable and have enough space to lay down your stuff. I'm nut? You bet I am!

Stefan 732 Posted December 31, 2008 No, but every non-board-gamer you invite will freak out and summon some nice, big guys in white suits to carry you off. Not the thing that improves social relationships. But hey, then...one could play board games really cool. I think I will have made such a table once I am seated EDIT: Ok, my girlfriend it totally in the idea...wouldn't have expected that. She plans where to put the table and where to order...what have I done?

Stefan 732 Posted December 31, 2008 Since she is my fiancee, there's a good chance of that
JhonnyGoo 0 Posted January 1, 2009 Well, then you're really a lucky one! Congrats! I'm still working on making my better (i prefer "other") half a fellow Twilight Imperium player. Last night, about 90 minutes after the fireworks she had her first game of TI (don't ask why we brought it to the table...) and she quite liked it. Hope dies last! By the way, happy new year to the community!
Madkestrel 0 Posted January 1, 2009 It's nigh impossible to play TI3 on any normal dining type table with more than four players. Most people wouldn't have any other use for a table that can support a large TI game. We came up with the following solution: Go to Walmart (or equivalent) and go to the furniture section -- find those grey plastic folding tables that measure 30" by 72" (the ones that fold in half). Buy two of these. Go to fabrics and buy two yards of 60" black duck cloth. Back at home, set both tables up so the longest sides meet, duct tape the seam, put the fabric down. You now have a table that measures 60x72 (you'll want to trim the fabric back or make a seam if you are inclined to sew). This size table supports a six player game easily and an eight player game reasonably. With six, map in center, plenty of room at top and bottom for score/role area, three people on each side. With eight, it's a bit more crowded as you have to put a player at each end, but there is still room for the map. With eight, we typically keep the scoreboard on a separate table, but we like our elbow room. We rarely play eight players anymore, because of the extra time it takes. We have used this setup the last couple of games and it works like a charm. Plus, it's easy to tear down and shove in the closet, leaving our floor space available for regular life -- we only get to play large TI games 2-3 times a year. Stefan 732 Posted January 1, 2009 @Johnny: Well, the downside is, she hates boardgames, so I get my table but won't play with her. Too sad.
JhonnyGoo 0 Posted January 3, 2009 Oh well, how can one hate boardgames, I don't understand. But same goes for my girlfriend with my Star Trek "passion". Even the best things have downsides somewhere.
Stefan 732 Posted January 3, 2009 Well, I don't understand Trekkies either ^^ But she don't likes them, and actually I have gotten her into Descent and Doom (which she likes because of the "adventurous" part). Maybe one step at a time ^^
JhonnyGoo 0 Posted January 5, 2009 Just remember what Armstrong said 40 years ago! PS: I'm not that extreme, but I love the setting and the fact that there is a huuuuuuuge amount of "Fluff'n'Stuff".
moony29 0 Posted May 2, 2010 We just made a 5ft.x 6ft table that fit on top of two 6ft x 30 inch plastic tables SPECIFICALLY for this game, lol. Played our first game on it this weekend and it worked out well. I am planning on taking pictures of it next time we play and post them on the geek.
