Wookiee jedi build advice

Any suggestions for interesting 2 spec wookiee jedi specs?

Assuming that when you say "Jedi" you're referring to any specs that provide the Lightsaber skill as a bonus career skill...

Warrior career is probably where you want to start and stay.  Shii-Cho Knight makes a very good starting point, while Colossus from Knights of Fate works for your second sepc, as together they'll make you a very tough opponent to take down, with Colossus focusing more on sheer durability (multiple ranks of Durable and Toughened) while Shii-Cho Knight gives you some good tools for taking down multiple foes, especially minion groups.  And since neither one has a Form Technique talent that you need to worry about, you can go ahead and focus on your Brawn.  You'll be a bit of a sitting duck however against ranged attacks, given nothing in Warrior provides you with ranks in Reflect, so in that regard a dip into Sentry (Endless Vigil) might be a good idea as your second (or even third spec).

Now, the issue with going Colossus and Shii-Cho Knight is that neither of them offer you a chance to increase your Force Rating... but that's okay, because one of the best things you can do with your one Force die is assign it to Sense for the defensive Control upgrade, which you can then use to help deal with ranged attacks.  Strain is also a bit of a problem, even if you pump your starting Willpower up to 3 given a wookiee's low starting strain threshold.  Shii-Cho Knight can help a bit with ranks in Second Wind as does Colossus with two ranks of Grit back-to-back.  Indomitable Will might look nice, but for the strain cost it's just not going to be worth it.

Quick question about that Sense upgrade. As far as I know, you have to roll for the Power first before committing any dice to that upgrade, am I correct?

To follow up on what @vilainn6 said, there is no roll, but the committing of the die does require an action (as per usual when activating a Force power).

I have a Wookie Jedi in my group now. We just started our campaign so he hasn't done much play testing. As suggested previously he built a Colossus. I think he took a bit of bonus XP because he started at morality 50 and I also gave him 5 bonus XP for something special but he was able to get his Brawn to 4 and Willpower to 3 (from 1). With the boost in Willpower he's able to take on more force power stuff that might need some Discipline (like Move). Moreover, he plans to cross spec into Aggressor asap. His 3 in Will is key to the Aggressor spec since it's all about Coercion. Also, Agressor has a +1 Force Rating and +1 Dedication point the later which can get him to Brawn 5 or Will 4. He chose this build to give him a little more versatility in non-combat areas. I think at some point he'll want to train with lightsabers so I think his third spec will be either Shii-cho knight or Joyu Berserker, sort of depending on the RP aspect.

I think the synergy between Collossus and Wookie are pretty good due to "Wookie rage" which boosts his damage dealt after taking wounds and by even more when he's got a crital hit, of course these are things the Collossus does well. I also think this could play well with Joyu Berserker down the road but we'll see.

Also, he started with Enhance (I don't remember if he purchased this at creation or later). Enhance is pretty nice since it can boost Brawl and Athletic checks and other things that the Wookie will be doing. Sense seems like another good one, and I do like that it's a little more powerful with a Force Rating 1.

Edit: He's not technically a Jedi. That darn Order 66 sort of got in the way.

Of course, the only downside with Wookiee Rage is it doesn’t work when wielding a lightsaber.

Good point, but I don't know if I agree with that stance. I feel like that's because the Lightsaber skill was sort of added as an afterthought in the EotE core rulebook, where Wookie rage is described. "Lightsaber" isn't even listed in the EotE CRB skill chapter. I sort of feel that Lightsaber should be included in Wookie Rage based on the rules as intended. I was planning to allow it but should have some time to decide. Has there been errata or dev ruling on this?

I don't think so. It would be a good question to ask a dev.

YEs, there has. I specifically asked them about it, and I did post the answer in the Developers answered questions thread. Sam Stewart specfically told me that Lightsaber is not usable with Wookiee Rage, and that this was intentional on their part.

Cool. Thanks for the info. I guess they probably have good reason for that, I assume relating to it's potential to get OP. I may still allow it if it's central to his character, perhaps with some nerf. Maybe I'll let him if he agrees that he'll take strain or conflict to make it work? Glad you brought it up.

It's most likely because lightsaber damage isn't directly based upon strength (Brawn), but Wookiee rage does add to Melee weapons that are that way (Morgukai Pike), so...

Given that there's a Lightsaber skill for the Fallen Jedi adversary stat block in the EotE book, it's quite like that Jay and Sam were fully aware that Lightsaber as an attainable skill for PCs was going to be a thing down the road, especially as Force and Destiny had been announced (along with Age of Rebellion) at about the same time that Edge of the Empire was, with there even being a video by some of the FFG developers and management discussing how the line would evolve from EotE to AoR to finally F&D.

That Wookiees don't get to apply their Wookiee Rage bonus to Lightsaber damage is probably for the same reasons that the Feral Strength talent doesn't get applied, which is namely that due to Breach 1 and potential for modding crystals or adding further attachments to have substantial damage values, so a lightsaber doesn't need that extra damage boost that Brawl and the majority of Melee weapons need in order to keep approximate pace with ranged weapons, especially those in the Ranged (Heavy) and Gunnery categories.

Yeah, they also list Lightsaber as the skill needed for the lightsaber listed in the Equipment list of the Edge CRB. No argument that the Dev's left it out intentionally. I guess I'm just a little bummed for my player that they won't be able to Wookie Rage with a lightsaber, at least without a house ruling. But then again I also fear the idea of him carrying a double-bladed lightsaber with Linked 1, Breach 1?  -- especially down the road when he's likely to be rolling with a bunch of yellows and a couple greens.

Hmmm, given this is the "Yes and.." system, maybe raging with a lightsaber isn't all that easy and adds a setback or two?

honestly I'd just pick up Shien or armorer as a third spec and call it a day.

Armorer makes you even tougher and adds chewbacca mechanics skill.

Shien solves your ranged attack with lots of reflect based goodness and a strength based lightsaber damage booster.

Or you could go Colossus Iron Fist and beat people to death with your bare wookie hands which lets you use your wookie rage...

Or generates conflict unless trying to compose themselves (thus you apply a setback when raging to try and let it fuel your attacks).

Lightsaber is a brawn skill by default, brawn is the attribute for the vanilla skill, Shii-Cho, and Juyo. You mean it is rated like an energy weapon damage?

  • Wookiee Rage: When a Wookiee has suffered any wounds, he deals + 1 damage to Brawl and Melee attacks. When a Wookiee is Critically Injured, he instead deals + 2 damage to Brawl and Melee attacks.

It's still a mêlée weapon even if it has its own skill and in EotE it doesn't have lightsaber skill at all, though it still indicates it's lightsaber not mêlée. Doesn't it say something about lightsaber defaulting to mêlée in EotE?

Brawl and Melee are synonyms of each other in English.

Well the Wookie could make good use of Falling Avalanche from Armorer, rather than going Colossus.
