Lorne 2,021 Posted October 22, 2018 Can someone summarize the plot (metaplot?) of the Beginner Box adventure? I want to use the Emerald Champion follow-up adventure, but figured I might as well run them through the Topaz Championship first, which I'm fine making-up on my own, but I want to ensure it dovetails with whatever over-arching story they started in the beginner box. PCs travel to Tsuma for their Topaz Championship in the wake of Doji Satsume's recent death. Throughout the adventure, the PCs meet with the ghost of Satsume a few times, each tied to a certain Mantis samurai named Hitoshi, who is secretly the bastard of Satsume's brother in law Kakita Toshimoko. Hitoshi is invited to the championship by the Scorpion who aim to embarrass the Crane. The PCs have some opportunity to defuse this conflict and save face for everyone involved. A parallel subplot is a scheme by the previous year runner-up Bayushi Sugai (I could get the name wrong) to take revenge on the Crane, specifically Toshimoko whom he believes to have robbed him of the championship. He hired Ronin to rough up contestants and sow tension while he himself swap a Crane contestant's practice sword with a real one for the Iaijutsu contest. The PCs have a chance to catch him in the act and confront him before the unlucky Crane commits sepuku. !!!!
