Children of the Empire

So do we think we are going to get a card for Sotorii and Daisetsu as well.  Even if the deck ultimately sucks it would be pretty cool if an all imperial deck was possible.  I'm hoping we get some strongholds with interesting deck building restrictions eventually.  Also I'm hoping we get some strongholds in this box.  Maybe if they released a stronghold that let you take any card with the imperial trait we might get an interesting deck type out of that.  Some strong cards with the imperial trait.

So wait...

This releases Q1 2019. If I remember correctly we’ll also have the two normal cycles, and the rest of all the clan packs (five).

That’s 40+90+90+(5x20)= 320$...

Man, that’s a lot of money in one year.

At the end of the day, this is sort of a Terminal Directive box? It's missing the campaign play but I think part of TD's intention was to be so that people could buy a core box and add TD for more rounded decks. This seems to do that.

Akodo Toturi is just one of the many neutral cards featured in Children of the Empire. Look for Duelists, Courtiers, Magistrates, and even the Son of Heaven himself to join the Imperial ranks.

That is less than what some Magic players spend during one set.

I mean, not really? Most CCG you could spend that much every few months and not get all the cards.

That’s why I stopped playing CCGs a long time ago.

Not saying I’m not gonna buy all, only that the decision of rushing all the clan packs, and release a new product format, while still maintaining cycles can scare some people.

I don't know why people expected Mantis. It is too early foe them to get great clan status. They are still a few years away. And there won't be a shadowlands faction.

The issue is the longer you hold off on them the larger the gap in card pool between them and the other factions is and the longer it takes for them to catch up in power with the others.

You didn't click on it.....

Well, we all know the Emperor is starting to get senile. My first thought after seeing your image was “Oh my god... He forgot to wear pants, didn’t he? He’s sitting in the Emeral Throne, with the royal pendants hanging right there...”

So I had to know. I had to know!

That's less than $30 bucks a month. You'd spend twice that for a new AAA video game.

Actually pretty sure they said we would get 3 clan packs next year and the other 2 in 2020 so not quite as bad, and yes that's spread over a 12 month period so not like you are dropping that whole amount in one go.  I would make it more like you can expect to spend around $70 every quarter which isn't quite as bad.

No. From the same link in the other thread: https://www.fantasyflightgames.com/en/news/2018/8/22/sun-and-shadows/

If you are a member of the Lion, Dragon, or Crab Clan don’t fret: you won't be waiting long. All seven Clan Packs are currently scheduled to be in your hands by the end of 2019!

Length is only a problem to some, that depends if you like long or short games. Balance might be being adressed, we dont know. Unicorn had a balance issue and the last cycle did address that. Duels has isues and this pack seems to be adressing with the rewording and the inclussion of composure and cards like the daisho, and the fact the team has acknowledge the mecahnic isnt working as intended and was being revised. Accesibility to new players is an issue, but I dont know if an expansion pavk is the best way to address that. Maybe starter decks or soemthing... bit thats another matter.

I agree that length is not an issue. I would say that the main balance issue at the moment is some Clans are still waiting for a Clan Pack and in some cases that has really hobbled the Clan (like Crane, which was also hit right out of the gate by a bad ruling by Nate French that effectively nerfed Doji Hotaru). Also new player accessibility is exactly the same as other LCGs and CCGs - buy the Core set.

I mainly play Honourable Lion, so bidding low is my main function. Because of this, I excitedly used Test of Courage in my deck for a while. This is an event that you can only play while your bid is lower than an opponent's, mimicking the composure requirement.

I can tell you that it was almost never able to be used. After I had bid low once, the cat was out of the bag and my opponent would match bids with me. So if there is a card on the table that says "get an ability by bidding low"?

Basically, unless there are a whole lot of incentives to bid high as well, or manipulate your opponent's dial, I am thinking Composure will be largely ignorable.
It might slowdown the Bid 5 impulse of many players which is cool, creating a new meta. But one that is less useful for my Honour shenanigans unfortunately ?

You mean, like dueling someone that can actually beat you?

”Hey, you either bid low and let me win this duel, thus giving me honor and suffering the effect of the duel, or bid high and win the duel, activating all my composure abilities”

It’s not a coincidence that this pack focuses so much in dueling and composure, as if they were not sinergized mechanics.

The issue will be the Scorpion character that lets them cheat the effect without most of the penalties.
