Spooky One-Shot

Recommended Posts

I'm planning on running a one-shot in a few weeks for some friends I normally play D&D with. One of them has played EotE before, and the others are familiar enough with Star Wars, so I thought it would be a nice break/change of pace that would allow our D&D DM to play. Since it's close to Halloween, I kinda want to make it creepy/spooky. Any scenario suggestions, or tips on fostering/sustaining an eery atmosphere?

Notes: I'm going to use the pre-made characters from the beginner game. I've run the modular encounter in the rebels sourcebook with the abandoned base and monsters with the party member who has played before; while it's kinda creepy, I don't want to re-do it (unless someone has an idea for a spin on the original?).

Are you familiar with these guys?  http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Killik

Creepy bug creatures that turn people into mind slaves.  Instead of starting with someplace abandoned and already creepy, start with someplace where everything initially seems perfectly normal; but then start letting on bit by bit that people are acting weird and something just ain't right.

Spooky, and in the spirit of things ( ? )...

They enter hyperspace, something unforseen happens and they are stuck in hyperspace. During finding out what went wrong and how they can get out of hyperspace again, they start to see... things. Things reminding them of long lost loved ones and old comrades. Not just Force ghosts, but... ghosts.

I wrote a mission a while back that my group still has flashbacks to on occasion.

"Vanishing of the Revengence" starts with the group getting a tip on a potential artifact from an infochant who already has a buyer set up. All the infochant needs is a collection unit to get the prize and meet up with him to make the exchange. Sounds like a simple smash and grab. Well, they go to the coordinates and it turns out to be on a small, long abandoned planet that was once a Sith world known for it's chemical and force experiments. The air is breathable, but a heavy mist hangs over everything and the entire planet just feels off. I populated it with mutated beasts and monsters they never identified, and capped it off with them stealing a sith holocron from an ancient temple, and then being attacked by constructs that came to life to stop them.

Theres a lot to work with, and I personally love using the dark side of the force to create some Lovecraftian type encounters with powers that they don't understand. As Lovecraft said himself, "the greatest [fear] is the fear of the unknown"
