It came from Legends, now it's canon. That's too bad.

So what things have moved from Legends to the new canon that you find disappointing?

My most recent one is this: According to Rebel Rising, female Devaronians are again covered in "downy fur." I always hated that bit. Now it looks like the canon follows this old pic (female on the right for those that need the pointer):

Or even this:

I really preferred the FFG take of this:

Two words:

Quinlan.

Vos.

A few more words:

I love me some John Ostrander writing. There are few comics writers - few writers in any medium, really - who have his knack for fleshing out anti-heroes and outright villains and making them compelling protagonists. But Vos has always just rubbed me the wrong way.

I feel like Vos is handled considerably better in Canon than he was in Legends. But yeah, I definitely agree about his Legends counterpart. Way too edgy for my tastes.

Also, in regards to Devarons and fur, I haven't read Rebel Rising. But I have read Weapon of the Jedi, which had a female Devaronian as a main character. She didn't appear to be fur-covered, so maybe only some female Devaronians are?

Personally, the part of Legends that I really dislike being Canon again is Dash Rendar. He's the diet coke to Han Solo, and I can't stand his character. His role in Shadows of the Empire should have just been given to Lando.

This may be unpopular, but I’ll take anything Legends coming back to canon. I’d stopped reading the old novels by the time Jacen went dark or bad.

As for Devaronian females being furred, I never had a problem with that. I kind of liked the idea of females and males being diverse, same as I like the whole Selonian thing. I think the real loss is for artists and storytelling not having the demon-looking species. That problem is easily solved by creating another species or a Devaronian sub species.

I concur on those two. Quinlan just makes everything worse, same thing with Dash Rendar. I'll throw prince Xizor into the pile of characters that should just be left on the trash pile of history. Falleens are pretty cool, Xizor is just a tool.

Xixor went down to the Star Wars #MeToo movement. That guy, he's totally therapist. Oh, I ran those last two words together...

I hadn't thought of this but man is that hilarious. No more date **** for the lizard men. Not sure why the animosity toward therapists but ok.

It's a tricky question. Id say overall the new canon is better and more reasonable than the erraric eccesses of Legends.

There's a few aspects that I liked that aren't fully in the new canon but there's been some hints at them or even fleshing them out a little better. Mandalorians for instance seem to have a more interesting culture and history, particularly for RPG fodder. The Old Republic is being kept ambiguous and I'm more or less fine with that.

I'd say the biggest loss for me is the Fel Empire and the Imperial Knights in particular. It was a novel spin on some familiar concepts. Maybe some5hing similar may arise post Episode IX.

It has in my campaign that’s set 250 years post-RotJ. The New Empire is one of the two major powers in the galaxy, in an uneasy peace.

I'm running a Jedi orientated campaign set just before the Clone Wars. I've had them run across an order of Force users heavily inspired by the Imperial Knights. Its given them some good drama and hard choices.

"Devorians females will grow thick fur in the winter month, to keep the warmer but today it´ s more a fashion statement to wear fu. If cared for, the wintercoat will last a very long time. Modern times medicine make it easy and cheap, to turn the fur gen on or off, and these days it´ s devorians choice to wear fur or not"

Fixed!

Bariss Offee, what they did with her in the Clone Wars is just outrageous for me.

Also Thrawn getting tuned down to a kid show. That really bugs me.

I hope they bring her back at some point. She's potentially got some interesting stories. I know one of my players at least has some Strong Feelings about her.

I haven't seen anything really that isn't made up for by all the terrible stuff they axed. Thrawn in Rebels was fine, and Thrawn in his own story is fine, since Thrawn back in the Thrawn trilogy was also merely just fine, despite all the hype that came with starring in one of the first attempts of expanding the Star Wars universe, that wasn't terrible.

Not saying I disliked the Heir to the Empire trilogy (it was fine) but the fact that it's now commonly known as the Thrawn trilogy says a lot about that character's overhype. It's kind of nice how he was used in Rebels as it kind of defuses any later attempts of Mary-Sueing him. I mean, if you're beaten by Ezra Bridger, there's pretty much a hard cap on your perceived levels of awesomeness. ;)

No, for now, I'm saving my vitriol for any reintroduction of the Yuuzhan Vong or Triocculus.

I know. Her fall was my least favorite part of TCW. I hadn't been liking the show as much as I did originally since early season 3 but having Bariss fall with no explanation at all pissed me off like nothing else.

If they bring Triocculus, I think it might be part of the Darkside Cult that was collecting Vader Artifacts we met in the Aftermath series.  Which would make the "Palpatine's Son" angle an interesting play for him trying to gain control of smaller factions.  I don't see him being anything more than a troublesome annoyance to the surviving Imperials.

When it comes to the Yuuzhan Vong.. That is something I think they have already hinted at with the references to a great threat in the unknown regions, but they will end up being handled very different than in legends.  Still an Invading Army with Bio-technology, but the force "immunity" being dropped.  I see them being utilized more like the Zerg, White Walkers, or Orcs & Goblins.  Something that will bring Whatever might be the opposing factions at the time together in a temporary Alliance.  With the Chiss being one of the major factors holding them back for now.
