Question regarding Force skills

That's my understanding as well.

Not if making a template.  When making a template, 2D in Alter would cost 2D in attributes.  And, Alter cannot be improved with the 7D skill dice if Alter is not on the template.

Also note: Jedi Knight was later specified to be either 6d or 7d in all three force skills - well beyond any starting character. And one cannot raise attributes in play, so the ASotF is permanently crippled outside the Force.

Out of curiosity, where is the Jedi Knight defined as such?

As for the attributes, it is interesting that in 1E, attributes cannot be raised.  In 2E, that changes; attributes can be raise, but at a high cost in points.  Yet, if you look at the attributes for the major players in the original trilogy films, the stats are never improved over time--even for Darth Vader and Luke.

Maybe, maybe not.

And why discuss something, just for discussion's sake? And (maybe) confuse the OP, whose question has been answered by HappyDaze and Donovan long time ago?

In addition your main argument comes from a book, that was made for another edition many years later. And is known for the most broken and false template(s).

Human Freedom Warrior has 20D for attributes. Following your logic, this cleary states, that it is completely normal and OK to build humans with 20D instead of 18D if you want to. Rulebook says 18D, but tales of the jedi companion is the more recent  book, that means now you can use 20D. Maybe I use 3D for force skills and still have 17D for attributes? Yes baby :)

Who knows how many more mistakes are in that book and which templates are correct? If they are not in accordance with the Rulebook, it is much more likely that they are wrong than that they give you a hint to a possible rule that has never been written down in the rulebook.

Besides in most RPGs the character templates are often full of mistakes (Shadowrun anyone?) and even in FFG Star Wars the starting characters in the Beginner Games differ from the character creation rules in the core rulebook (no proper specialization, Pash has more XP...). Template > Rulebook? - I do not think an argument can be made like this.

Why use (faulty) templates to keep a discussion going, that has been settled by using the proper quotes  from the Rulebooks?

1E does not allow spending more than 1D per force skill from attributes when making templates. Page 81, left column.

1E also does not allow adding more than 1 skill die to a force skill.

2E RE does not allow greater than 1D from attribute into force skills; Unlike 1E, it doesn't explicitly limit to +1d from skill, but no skill can get more than +2d.

The 7D for Jedi Masters is in 1E Rules Companion, page 55. Note that this also revises the training rules - anyone higher than self can be used to avoid the double cost penalty, but only a 7D+ can teach the first die in an ability.
