GalacticFist 202 Posted September 14, 2018 (edited) Hello everyone. I have made a web application for creating legion lists. It is still under active development and I'm not entirely sure when I will consider it officially out, but I figure since it's in a somewhat usable state that people may want to play with it a bit and possibly give feedback on anything. It should look good enough on mobile, but keep in mind it's not incredibly optimized in terms of performance. I am also aware I am currently missing the image of the Snowtroopers and Environmental Gear upgrades. I haven't bought that yet so I couldn't get a good scan of the cards. Please let me know what you think. Any feedback related to style, functionality, or layout are more than welcome. ? chieftom22 41 Posted September 14, 2018 Very intuitive! Thanks for the work!
Matroskin 132 Posted September 14, 2018 Nice! I like the layout, and the very clean look. Very intuitive, like chieftom22 said. at first, seemed a little awkward with the "+" button on far right, and the "build" section on far left, but I quickly adjusted to that. I like the simplicity of adding upgrades, and how as I add upgrades the options disappear. Also like how you can see options but they are ghosted out if you cannot take them. I like the auto-stacking that occurs when you duplicate/ create copies. And how but adding an upgrade to a stack them removes that one instance from the stack. For tweaks/ suggestions... One left side (build column), would like to see the upgrades indented a little bit, and perhaps see the unit portrait increased in size a little bit. This would help visually see the hierarchy a little better. (And I like the rank icons on the portraits- nice touch). Environmental gear image is missing (in every area-- the card selections, and small icons in the build area. May be nice to have a "+" button in the command deck build area as well. I know it's in the far right column, but I didn't see it there at first. Something I noticed when I was rearranging my units-- if I move something "up", and the item above it is a stack, I need to keep clicking up until it passes all of the stack. IE-- I added Han to my build, then wanted to move him above the Rebel trooper stack (of 5), realized I need to keep moving him up until it actually was above the whole stack. (And trying to move a stack doesn't really work-- I'm guessing since it's trying to move just one unit.) Would be nice to 'leap frog' a stack. Anyway, great job with the first release. 1 GalacticFist reacted to this

Luckily increasing the sizes and indenting things are so easy to tweak, it's just about finding the goldilocks value, I will play with this later today. 2. I do not own the Snowtroopers expac yet so I have yet to get a good scan of the Environmental Gear upgrade. If someone took a nice HDR pic of it that would be nice too. ? 3. I will try to make adding command cards more intuitive, I was never super comfortable having it where adding units are. 4. Thanks for bringing this to my attention, silly me never tried this in my testing. I will fix this soon. 6 minutes ago, Fistofriles said: love this i will use it regularly best list builder i have used what can we do to help I'm glad you like it, the best thing to do to help is simply give feedback like you did so thanks for that. If you also discover at some point that you think something can be improved a bit I would also love to hear about it.

Lukez 89 Posted September 14, 2018 Very good. What stack are you using?
Squark 2,555 Posted September 14, 2018 Interesting. I like the aesthetic, but it annoys me that the unit selection doesn't work when my phone is held horizontally (Landscape as opposed to portrait). Looks promising, though.

The front end is React (no redux) with Google's Material-UI framework and a nodeJS web server with nginx in front (I think). In the future I'll use MongoDB to hold user data and probably leverage Oauth the same way Yet Another X Wing Builder does. The link to the github is on a button on the landing page. The repo is pretty messy and unorganized though. 49 minutes ago, Squark said: Interesting. Interesting, I never even considered mobile users in landscape mode. Thanks for bringing this to my attention! I will do something to fix this. Steck638 117 Posted September 14, 2018 (edited) It's not a huge deal, but do you have plans to work on adding unreleased stuff into the game? I really like playing around with theory crafting lists. I really like playing around with theory crafting lists. What do you mean unreleased stuff? Like custom cards? Edit: If you mean products that have been previewed but not released then they are already there, such as Palpatine, Royal Guards, Scout Troopers, Wookie Warriors, and Chewbacca. Their cards aren't pretty (and possibly not accurate) since the best picture of them was angled and blurred, but I did my best to photoshop the text of their new abilities and point costs. I will do this for every preview. Edited September 14, 2018 by GalacticFister 2 Steck638 and clontroper5 reacted to this
Undeadguy 5,749 Posted September 17, 2018 Best Legion builder yet. It's very similar to Ryan Kingston's Armada builder which I like a lot. My suggestions: Instead of having the unit cards with a 2X to represent 2 units, show each unit. Since you already have the left side bar with the 2X I'd prefer to have the visual that I have 2 units when I scroll through the cards even if they are the same. It would be very easy for me to scroll down what cards I'm using and miss the 2X. I agree the command cards should be moved. You could add it on the left where the command cards are now and have the cards instead of text. I like all the options for upgrade slots when I select one, like heavy weapons, but I'd like it more if the upgrades that can't be selected were segregated from the ones I can take. It's not a big deal now to look through 6 heavy weapons, but if FFG keeps up pace with releases I'd expect a lot more within a year. This is especially true for commands cards because I'm selecting 6 from a very large pool of usable and unusable cards. Add cells/boxes on the left so I can line up the "+" for each unit when adding upgrades. Since upgrades appear underneath the names of units, it can be a bit difficult to select the right "+". Also, I'm not able to save the army I just made. I assume this feature is coming when we can make profiles? Good job though. I eagerly await updates. I got a lot of inspiration from Ryan Kingston's since I use his for Armada all the time. 1. This can be arranged. 2. I agree. 3. This one I'm conflicted on. I personally prefer seeing the other upgrades of the same type for comparison, but I can see why someone wouldn't want to see it. I will add a toggle option. In the mean time I will sort the list of upgrades/commands so that the ones that are actually equippable are shown first. 4. I am currently messing with how upgrades are shown/added because I agree in that it's a bit inconsistent There's still quite a few features I wish to add. The major ones are on the landing page. Eventually I will have a login system where you can save your lists as well as user settings (i.e. color scheme, what products you own, toggling whether to see all upgrades greyed out etc.). Right now I plan on removing the button in the top right that adds units/commands , using the the rank counts for adding units instead, adding an "Add Command" button on the left panel where the command buttons are shown, moving the rank count buttons to the left pane (same vertical position), and reworking the way upgrades are shown to utilize space more efficiently. Also have to put in the new Scout Trooper cards! Thanks for the feedback. Thraug 1,066 Posted September 17, 2018 Can you somehow add something to differentiate the units in the left oane more, possibly just a <hr> tag will do. It's very hard to see which upgrades belong to which units and where units start and end.

Lochlan 1,034 Posted September 17, 2018 I just experienced a bug on mobile. When using any of the expandable menus on units (add upgrades, move, delete, etc), I had to tap about one menu item above what I actually wanted to make a selection. So if I wanted to add Personnel to a unit of troopers, I had to tap on Heavy Weapon. However I have been unable to reproduce the bug. But still, this is an excellent builder! My only complaint is that it's not an app. ? 1 GalacticFist reacted to this
