geek19 6,557 Posted September 7, 2018 (edited) The only thing cooler than signing up for the Vassal tournament? Signing up for this, the first ever Fantasy Armada Representative Tournament! What NEW blatheration is John talking about NOW? Having spun this idea out of a few of us goofing about Fantasy Football, Fantasy Hockey, Fantasy Supreme Court (Actually a thing btw), I'm creating the inaugural tournament for those of us NOT on Vassal to still care about the games. I'm creating a scoring system, league, and ruleset to help us all draft teams of Fantasy Armada players in order to fill our roster and compete to see who among us knows how to judge other Armada'ans the best! ......what? I'm making fantasy football but for the Vassal fall tournament. You'll draft a team (rules below) and then we sit back and watch the scores roll in. As the games happen, you'll earn points for the players you chose, and the eventual winner will be the guy or gal who picks the best team. Winner gets bragging rights and the chance to lord it over us all until the next one of these. I don't know VASSAL, can I still play? Easily! Literally all we'll be doing is picking names of people we want to win/score points for us and then you're basically free of this entire endeavor. How does this all work? Well, we wait until @CaribbeanNinja is done with the sign-ups and lists for his event (CONVENIENTLY LOCATED IN THIS LINK, IT'S SUPER COOL AND YOU SHOULD SIGN UP!). When that's all done, we'll pick a number of people on our "team" (let's say....1/4 of the total applicants or 15 players, whichever is less). Each player will be evaluated on 5 different categories, and earn SCORES in that category (These are data points, but note the terminology for later discussion!) Those 5 categories (initially) are: -Total Win/Loss (your basic Armada scores, 8-3, 6-5, 10-1, etc) -Ships left alive percentage -Ships killed percentage -Squads killed percentage (zero if THEY'RE running squadronless, 100% if you table) -Gumption/Moxie (Any wins with a Vic or Assault Frigate in your list earn you 10 points here, else nada. Future versions of this may give points for "bad" admirals) All math is going to be done by yours truly and will be to 4 digits, reported to 3 (because i remain a giant baseball nerd, of course). Anyone who wishes to see it can ask for my excel files at any time. Those scores will then be divided amongst the drafters, a la daily fantasy sports. So if 30 people draft @JJs Juggernaut and he scores 9 in the win loss category, that 9 is then divided and all of those people earn 9/30 NUMBERS (again, words in caps and italic mean things for discussion) for that category. If 2 people pick @BiggsIRL and he scores a 10, then that means both people earned 10/2, 5 total numbers. Everyone getting this? (Please ask for clarification on this all if there's confusion). Those NUMBERS (9/30, 10/2) added together will then be judged and give you POINTS. This is just a digit from 1 to X where X is the total number of players in this tournament, where the highest added together NUMBERS earn you the most POINTS. .....what? SCORE (earned in game by the actual players) becomes NUMBER (fraction of total players gets me a fractional amount of their score), NUMBER becomes POINTS (what we're actually competing over) Example does this best. On my team i have @BrobaFett, @rasproteus, and @GiledPallaeon (no pressure, guys!). They earned in games they played this week a win/loss SCORE of 5, 6, and 8 respectively, and they were drafted by 10, 12, and 32 people, again respectively. So I earned for my team: 5/10 (Broba)+6/12 (rasp)+8/32 (Gilgamesh) for a NUMBER of 1.250. My 1.250 is evaluated against every OTHER NUMBER in this category with everyone else playing and then I am assigned points based on my placement. (If my 1.250 beats my opponent's 1.200, I earn more points than him. If it is less than my other opponent's 1.300, I earn less). These numbers accumulate all tournament long, so the more games your draftees play, the better chance you have of getting more scores and thus better numbers and more points.... just don't pick the same players as everyone else! Again, i'll be setting all this math up in Excel and letting it do all the work for me. LITERALLY all you'll need to do is draft a team of Vassal players you think can bring you the glory! The math SOUNDS a lot more complicated than it actually is, and if you've ever played fantasy sports before you've got a decent understanding of how this seems to work. I'm not sure how broken any of these things ARE, hence why this is inaugural This sounds amazing/really stupid/interesting/incredibly more inside baseball than I ever thought possible, how do i sign up? Click on the google document below, and start drafting teams. Everyone needs to get them in by FRIDAY, and then again, it's just a matter of waiting and seeing how good you are at randomly throwing names down on a sheet of paper! https://goo.gl/forms/0cqkIS890T0DrUHQ2 Any further questions, I'll address below, so please ask, but this is gonna be super casual, so I wouldn't stress too much about it. ....Fantasy Armada Representative Tournament.... did you name it that for the acronym? Tbf, when Geek said you draft 5, I assumed he typo’d and actually meant 4 + you. Can you draft yourself?
