Is 2.0 Corran Horn any good?

Recommended Posts

So, this might be extremely dumb but I've just realised you can fit Wedge, Luke and Corran all in one list.

And technically, you even have points to run Supernatural Luke with them, though it means absolutely no upgrades on Corran or Wedge.

R3, Predator and FCS on Corran is doable though, and it leaves you with Heightened Perception on Luke and Crack Shot on Wedge. I've also not actually seen anyone mention Predator and FCS on Corran yet either. Initially it seems redundant, right? You've already got re-rolls from TL and FCS.

But actually, I think being able to lock two different targets and get two re-rolls on any ship you get to double tap without spending the target lock could be big. It's just a shame the E-Wings linked actions are both reposition into target lock (which is frustratingly almost anti-synergy with the ship ability) rather than focus.

The only one in that list hurting for double mods is Wedge, who's cutting their defence anyway. Get him to range 1 with a TL and Crack Shot and he almost doesn't need the focus.

The three of them would be extremely potent at killing one ship a turn. They'd probably still suck against swarms, but other than Punishers, Brobots or Afterburners/Super Vader, Fel and Whisper, what doesn't?

Try this build:

Corran Horn: R2-D2, Afterburners, Advanced Sensors, Predator

Lowhhrick: Leia Organa, Selfless

Biggs Darklighter: S-Foils

Total: 195

I have a lot of fun with this list and find it quite potent. The idea is early game you fly as a formation and keep Corran in good health. Corran comes in and double taps and flies out and regens if needed. Leia is good for 2 points she lets you do reds at the right time allowing for some unconventional Corran plays, and allowing for some tricky stop moves. Whilst Corran might not be as survivable on his own as other aces, in formation he is very tough. With his long range scanners and double tap he has easily the highest damage output of any ace which I really enjoy. Fly him like he’s a jet fighter, attack then run then lock (and regen) and come in for another run. Also you have a 5 point initiative bid so you basically guarantee Corran is moving last against all except the top aces. This paired with Advanced Sensors is really strong and allows you to trigger his ability much easier. If your a good pilot it’s quite strong after the first pass to regroup the formation where possible, which isn’t too hard to do, especially if you sloop on Corran with Leia. If you want to spend some of the renaming points you could put R2 Astro on Biggs or Hull Upgrade on Lowhhrick. Generally I prefer the 5 point bid as those cards don’t make much of a difference in my experience.

That's pretty much the Corran build I keep going back to, @xXmushmanXx .  I might go generic R2 for cheapness, but that's the basic point. I'm thinking of flying him with a Jake Farrell (for focus support), and then I'm not sure.  Maybe Wedge, maybe Norra.  Or maybe Benthic Two-Tubes as the support piece... Hrm.  Stuff to think about...

Sloops and kturns are now opened up. Leia allows white sloops and kturns for Corran. Kanan on Low provides offense mods, but combo'd with Leia, allows Fenn or Corran to remove stress when doing those red moves.

I’ve been toying with trying this:

Corran- trick shot/ R3/ FCS/ proton torpedoes

Wedge- trick shot/ R4/ s-foils/ proton torpedoes

Renegade (U-wing)- Leia/ pivot-wing

Total= 198 points

Medium base I-1 blocker, hit like a truck with ordinance, Leia (stress-free) k turn shenanigans.

This has done well for me in casual play (which is all I play):

Double Tappers

(66) Corran Horn
(6) R2-D2
(1) Marksmanship
(12) Proton Torpedoes
(2) Fire-Control System
Points 87

(80) Lando Calrissian
(5) Nien Nunb
(8) Perceptive Copilot
(14) Bistan
(2) Trick Shot
Points 109

Total points: 196

They’re both Init 5, so you can pick the activation order. You can have Lando move first, any speed 1-3 straight or bank is blue, and you throw an action at Corran... like boost and red lock. Then Corran does a blue maneuver and focuses. Shoot off a torpedo, crit someone, then run off and regen if necessary.

Looks like fun.... one question though: where's Leia?

I've wondered if a loaded Corran alongside Selfless AP-5 and a Leia Lothal Rebel (VCX) would be worth looking at

This looks more like something cool (but I abhor selfishness, but that's my only no (and it's a bad reason I know :))

Summary: Horn is paying for that dial and access to the droid. Kinda like Kylo is paying (excessively) for his dial. Neither are the actual game Aces of their faction, and that hurts too. That said, neither work at their current points with a support squad that synergies as a complete package. They're really both just for fun pint lists. I wish the Knaves were cheaper as I always wanted them to work in Epic.... but alas, they are always "almost, but nope."

The card which fascinates me on Corran is Marksmanship.  He's got to line up the Bullseye anyhow, and getting extra crits through on ships which have already seen their tokens and shields dinged on the first attack seems nice.  Maybe Elusive is necessary to protect the points investment, though.

Elusive fights R4 for those red turns.

But elusive with Regen could be decent.

Sure.  But I've never really considered R4 essential.  I feel like R3 for double locks or R2 for regen would be the way I'd go.  It's not that R4 is bad or necessarily worse.  Just a style thing.

I know she’s a steal at 2 points, but I’ve found the ability to move Lando first and throw Corran a pre-red maneuver action more than makes up for excluding her. And you don’t have to worry about timing it with Leia charging back up — although you do have to manage it with the blue maneuver, completing the maneuver, and being in range 3 of Corran. But I haven’t found that very hard to do.

Corran is a pilot that demands you're good enough to make up for his cost.

He's like using a marksman rifle in CQC. Okay, you could, but why would you when there are better tools for the job?

If we're talking real life, it probably is because you are mentally insane, have no true desire to live, or don't have said better tools. Now if you're talking video game silliness, it's probably because you are one of many Aimbot users on CS:GO, aka Ghost Fenn users of X-Wing.

🤨 Even at I2, being able to open with 3 double modded Prots in the first engagement is potent as heck. They can do that now...

Proton Torpedoes (12)
