Imperial Assault Tools - List Builder, Card Editor, more... - now works on Windows 7!

Reward cards also, although they can be easily done once we have class cards and item cards. I think only difference is the word "REWARD" instead of XP or credit cost.

Yep, Reward cards too, they're all very similar.

Mission cards will definitely get done at some point too.

I'm not sure about Companion cards - might do them, might not. I very much doubt I'll ever get round to Form, Epilogue, Threat Mission, or Condition cards.

@Bitterman Form cards are very specialised, for sure, but I'm sure there are people out there who would love to custom make some more options for their Shapeshifters...

True; and the thought did occur to me that you get four Clawdite models and only three (unique) Form cards, which seems like it's just begging for at least one more Form to be made. But, Form cards are very specialised, and the existing Forms do cover the most obvious archetypes of what a Clawdite could be made to do... and above all else I just can't get that excited by the idea, enough to spend the time writing code for it. But never say never, I suppose... perhaps one day. I just wouldn't hold your breath while waiting, is all I'm saying.

I imagine one could do “unique” named Clawdite Forms...

So form of Zam for instance. But as you say, the three existing do cover the most obvious iterations.

You could do a spy version maybe? Objective runner with extra movement and hiding ability. Maybe bonuses when interacting?

or a brawler instead of the street rat?

or a medic version that support in different way to the senator.

or a multi-target shooter (like Vinto) instead of the scout.

im sure there are someone out there with the abilities to think of better options. Although the priority isn’t high on these ones...

For anyone still following - a new version has now been released. The Card Editor now supports:

  • Reward Cards - use for Imperial and Hero, Reward and Class cards.
  • Item Cards - currently weapons only. Use for Equipment cards, and Hero Reward and Class cards (especially their starting weapon).
    • Other item types to follow later, at which point they'll also be useful for Supply cards, as well as more Class and Equipment options.

Between Hero Sheets and these cards, it's now possible to create a complete custom Hero!

Oh - so sorry, my mistake! I hadn't actually uploaded the new version. Try again now!

Although, actually - you know when would be an even better time to download the new version (from the usual place)? Now. Right now. Why...?

  • Imperial Assault Card Editor now supports Side Mission cards (including Agenda Side Missions).

Gonna be honest - unless I catch a second wind, that's probably all the card types that will be supported by the Card Editor. I might one day go back and do some of the others already mentioned, but I'm pretty exhausted by it to be honest, so I've no idea when (or even really if) that will be.

So what will I be working on next, if not more cards? Well... there's still a bit more I want to do in the Skirmish List Builder (better export options, limit by collection, per-card 5-star ratings); and I've sketched out a few ideas for a Dice/Stats app, Mission Designer, and Campaign Tracker. But at this point, I really don't know whether I'll actually work on those now, or go and do something else in my spare time for a while. (Not only have I been working really hard on this for some time now, long enough that I might need a break; but it also feels very much like diminishing returns given how dead the forum is). Let's see what happens...

You should see it exactly the other way around, you are bringing more life to the forum :)

Cheers for all your hard work!

Completely agree. You are not only enriching our forums but also the gaming experience for all of us on our tables. It has always been fun thinking about adding costum stuff to the game or making small changes to the things we have. Thanks to your work this has become so much easier. A HUGE thank you for that. The only thing I‘ll do now regarding your editor is to patiently wait for any further update and just enjoy the stuff you already gave us. :)

I, and my friends who play imperial assault, truly appreciate all you've done so far. Which is why I think you shouldn't leave the project 1/2 complete or 2/3 complete or however you figure. Making a Mission Designer would in our opinion be the final thing in order to make the Kensei Imperial Assault Builder program fully complete. I and a group of friends have already used your program to create 4 neat heroes. We'd like to be able to use your  program to make missions for those heroes too. However if you don't feel like it we understand you've already gone well above and beyond what anyone could expect of you, since you're not charging money for this tool (Which makes it that much more awesome). Thank you for what you've done so far!!!!! and we hope you'll do even more great things with this program!!!

Thanks for the kind words all, honestly appreciate the feedback. To be clear though, not angling for attention or anything - just that spending weeks and weeks writing software that might be used by 100 or 1000 people seems like a worthwhile use of time, but not so much if it might only be used by 5 or 10, with the forum as quiet as this. Also, this is literally a spare time project and what I choose to do in my spare time ebbs and flows anyway (the hobby butterfly flutters where it will). I might spend more time on this... or might leave it for a bit. Not yet decided.

If I do work more on this, Mission Designer is probably next, I think. With it looking more and more like FFG might be done with the game, that's what would truly put it into the hands of the players, though it'll take a lot of work to do. OTOH I'm more likely to use a Campaign Tracker myself (I've never got on with spreadsheets for that purpose) and most of this stuff, to be blunt, I do for myself first and foremost (partly why it's free - another reason being that FFG's lawyers might start paying attention if it weren't!)... but on the other other hand, our gaming group only has one more campaign to play (Lothal) and I'm not sure if it's worth writing software for one more campaign, when plastic bags and a print-out have done the job for the previous six. Finally, the dice/stats app is probably the least exciting idea, but would be pretty quick and easy, which has its own appeal. So... don't know.

There is one feature I'd like to add, but it needs someone with a little bit of graphic design / pixel art skill. I have almost none. Anyone want to volunteer to (audition to ;)) help out?

Sorry, several people have reported problems on Windows 7. It appears not to work on that OS.

I don't have time or resources to setup a Windows 7 machine to test and fix, so I recommend using Windows 10 instead.

So, for whatever reason the forum doesn't want to let me post the other heroes, whenever I try it just tells me that I'm not allowed to upload more than 173.45Kb so until I find a way around that this is the only thing I can show.

Yeah FFG forum have this weird thing where if you try to copy+paste the pic from your local computer, it registers as you uploaded the image to your account then copy+pasted here so it counts against your limit

I always use photo hosting website, imgur is the fastest one I've discovered, you can copy+paste the pic from there (after uploading to imgur) then FFG forum registers simply as it's fetching the pic from a 3rd party website, no restriction applies

Really cool to see complete heroes: Hero sheet (both sides), full deck of nine class cards (including the starting weapon), Mission card, Reward card, and Deployment card for Skirmish! Seems like there's very little that can't be easily made, now.

Could I request that Rebel Reward cards be given access to the Class card title tag that goes across the bottom of the Imperial class cards?

Yes. So, I already thought about doing this (spoiler for wall of text)...

[edit] Wow. The FFG site has really screwed up this post, and I can't edit the bits that aren't working - what a mess. The "Long story short: yes, next time I'm working on the tool (might not be right away) I'll make sure this is something I enable" bit was supposed to come outside, and after, the spoiler, as a conclusion. Blame the crappy forum software FFG use.

...because it'd be obviously useful for an "anti-hero" campaign where the Imperial player is actually the "Rebel player" and the Heroes are from the Empire, to make the "Rebel player" class cards as much like their Imperial class card counterparts as possible. I think there's a few more things that are needed to make an anti-hero campaign a really practical endeavour (not least of which: Anti-Hero Sheets) but we're probably all thinking about it, and I'm still amazed FFG haven't taken the opportunity to do it yet. Though I do wonder why the class name isn't either always there or never there, there's no real reason why it's helpful for the Imperial player only, every player only gets one class at a time (whether they're an Imperial or Hero player) so it's one of those little idiosyncrasies of FFG card design that you don't really notice until the time comes to, for example, make a card editor tool (all that pixel counting, argh!). But still, yeah, it's an easy enough thing to add, just do the same thing for Rebel cards as for Imperial cards, right? Well, not so fast. First of all, if I allow the class deck name to be entered even for Hero cards, people will naturally enter the class name for their custom Hero, and not realise that it's not supposed to show for normal Hero class cards, which means their cards will look slightly wrong, and I'd rather lead users down the path to make their cards look right (even if they'll never notice... I'd know!). But this isn't really a compelling objection because, after all, they could add whatever card text they want on there anyway, so although it's reasonable to point people in the right direction, you still never really know what they're going to do with it. So I guess the thing to do will be to make the textbox accessible and add a separate checkbox for whether to actually display the class name? Because that way the user can just always enter the class name, which is useful information anyway (assuming it's a Class card and not a Reward card) and could even then be added to the default filename, making it easier to organise the .iarc files in whatever folder you keep them in (all the cards with the same name would be together). OK, decision made then - enable the textbox, add a checkbox, draw the tag if the checkbox is ticked and the textbox isn't empty, it's now two conditions where really only one ought to be needed but it enables the kind of feature that we'd like. Winner. Job done then. Except wait, no not really! Drawing the tag isn't that simple. How should it be drawn? We already know what the tag looks like on the Imperial class cards: grey, with hard angular corners, sloped to match the angle of the artwork on the card border. But what should an equivalent tag look like on Rebel class cards? There's no existing card to copy, and the normal style of Rebel cards is to avoid grey and have rounded corners, and the Rebel class card doesn't have the same sort of slope on the artwork (it's curvy, and so gentle maybe it shouldn't even affect the tag). It just looked weird and wrong, when I tried it, to draw the tag the same way on the Rebel card as it is on the Imperial card - totally out of place. So to put something there I'd really be satisfied with would need some artistic ability and creativity... and those aren't my strengths. It's not an unsolvable problem though, I just need to decide on a similarly-neutral but not grey colour that looks right on the card, and draw the tag with curvy edges, and try to make it look right. Or maybe for now don't worry too much about that, just do it the simplest way possible and then people can make their own minds up whether to use it or not. I'm not sure which I'll do yet. Depends how lazy I'm feeling. And if I do one then the other, it shouldn't upset people that have already made and printed cards too much because they can always export the image and/or print it again, no reason not to.

Anyway. Just thought that might be an interesting insight into the thought that goes into a tool like this, even for really simple requests like "show the class name on the card". ?

Long story short: yes, next time I'm working on the tool (might not be right away) I'll make sure this is something I enable.
