"Emperor's Hand" (i.e., Mara Jade every bit as much as the "Royal Guard Champion" is Carnor Jax) for the Empire.

Cassian Andor and K-2SO for the Rebels (they'd make more sense than anyone else in Rogue One...)

Dr. Aphra for Fringe, with a special deployment card letting her use 0-0-0 and BT-1 (maybe other droids, too) in skirmish regardless of faction.

I get that you might not like the characters or story from Rogue One.

I even get that you might not see the potential in having a mission with one of them show up.

But that isn't the same as there being no potential for something interesting to be explored.

It's the way IA is built.  You deviate from the campaign because Luke Skywalker tapped you on the shoulder and asked for a favour.

Blind Guy and Gun Guy aren't exactly hanging around a Rebel base to do that, and Jyn is in a hole or a jail cell.

So that leaves Cassian and Saw, who would get up to the missions I described.  The side missions aren't really platforms for origin stories and arcs, they're one-offs to pad out the campaign and provide variability from one play through to the next.  You could certainly work these people in, but it would be weird.

They'd be much more at home in Skirmish where, much like the movie, story and narrative don't matter.  But of course, if you make them for Skirmish, you have to make some kind of campaign side mission to follow suit with the other SKU's, and that's what I'm goofing on.  Well, that, and how the writers of Rogue One (which I assume was a committee, not so much a couple of people working on a script) forgot to develop and pay off their characters.

That's why they're perfect for skirmish; Gun Guy is basically Drokkatta.  Skirmish figure with Heavy Weapon trait, Black defence die, surge for blast/extra damage.  That's the entire description of the character in the movie.

You're confusing my glib appraisal as a denial of potential when I actually highlighting a couple of options.  FFG loves their tokens, so why not make some collateral damage tokens representing the innocent bystanders that get blown up when Saw's terrorists explode a tank in a crowded market?  It's so gritty...

You'd hope so.  She's on the artwork for Negation.  She appeared in X-Wing and the LCG.  Next to Thrawn, she's probably the biggest EU holdout for any Star Wars game that piles on this much content.

The release of Ep9 will probably decide that though.  There's always plenty of rumour that they'll work her in there, or through some other project, like Thrawn being brought back to the canon with Rebels and Zahn's novel.

I suspect she's held up in licensing **** somewhere...

No Yoda... not yet anyway. I feel like they won't wrap up IA without Yoda (and maybe Ewoks) so as long as he doesn't appear there's always something else to come.

I have the same feeling.  An inevitable Endor box marks the beginning of the end.

I'd love to see these characters make it into the game, and we may as well. It's not like having Greedo, the GI, or Obi Wan made much sense at their own time of release.

But I do get what @cleardave is trying to say. Baze/Chirrut/Bodhi weren't really even Rebels until the events of the movie, at which point there wasn't really much room for them to really have any "side missions" before they'd die anyway.

The only ones that really make much sense are Cassian, K-2, and maybe Jyn and Saw.

But hey- they got rid of the time period thing, so I don't see anything wrong with letting people play how they want.  Baze, Chirrut, and K2 would be pretty cool sculpts.

My feelings exactly.  And honestly, it would hit everything I personally would need to feel I had a complete IA experience: Ewoks, Scout Troopers, Imperial Navy troopers, 4-LOM & Zuckuss.

I would not pass on some Mandalorians however considering they did feature prominently in several Rebels stories.  But really, my OT experience just needs a few units to be complete for me.

Zuckuss 4lom.

But i also like the madecup Imperials like Terro, Kayn Somos, Blaise. I just wish they would put a little effort into their skirmish side. They're great in campaign and then ineffectual or grossly overcosted in skirmish most of the time. Thrawn emperor palps and Terro are good but man blaise and somos are terrible

So, it only doesn't make sense if you view them as "Rebels" only in the sense that they are official members of the Rebellion. And you can have missions occur prior to them being in Rogue One. Just because someone is an ally you have earned doesn't mean they necessarily have to be "Rebels"

Take this as an example;

Your Rebel team have received word from RHC that a lost Jedi temple has been uncovered by an Imperial scouting party and they seem intent on destroying everything inside. You are the nearest available unit to go prevent the destruction. When you show up, you find a Chirrut and/or Baze facing off against the Imperials. Cue battle, and if victorious you earn one or both of them as a future ally.

Your Rebel team could receive word that a Rebel Spy has infiltrated an Imperial facility to obtain some vital intel. You have been dispatched to the facility to aid with his extraction. Cue Cassian sneaking around in an officers uniform with K2 backing him up. Cassian is discovered and cornered, and you must break in to break him out. (He's an assassin, sure, but he's also a spy. Not everything has to be murder.)

Bodhi is pretty tricky... Essentially you could have a mission with a deserter trying to feed the Rebellion information, but have his skirmish card actually as an Imperial. Similar to how Vinto/Onar/Shyla are actually Merc. This mission could showcase his sympathy for the rebellion prior to Galen sending him on his mission. Even showcase why Galen picked him in the first place!

Jyn Erso could be a similar situation where you encounter a Scum smuggler trying to steal some Imperial Cargo that the rebellion wants. You work together to split the take. Jyn strikes me as someone who would actively work hard to stay under the radar, so she might be tricky to design a mission around.

I don't know. If you get stuck in a mindset of "These characters can only be turn up in ways that link in with the movies" then you are not seeing the endless possibilities of mission structures.

Exactly!  Obi-Wan is such an example.  He's not a rebel by any means, not accounting for the fact that from a time period point of view (which have been relaxed by FFG since then) Obi-Wan being brought as an ally during Jedi Luke's mission would make no sense at all.  Still we have him.

It could therefore make sense if FFG ever release Rogue One content to be part of an ally/villain wave not related to any box, just like the Obi-Wan/Greedo/Inquisitor wave.  Side missions like the one you are proposing would just be fine IMO.

Death Squad Commander(s)

Zuckuss and 4-LOM

Rebel on Tauntaun

I'm pretty good after that.  I mean, I've bought everything up til now and I'm probably not going to stop any time soon.

I still want some droids and civilians for missions.

I think the only "essential" character I'd really need to see before the game was "finished" is Yoda (and I'm in favor of it being Force Vision Yoda, representing a vision/ghost of Yoda showing up to help the heroes rather than prequel-lightsaber-wielding-Yoda hopping around off Dagobah). An Endor themed box would make a lot of sense too -- Ewoks and Scout Troopers would be great additions.

We never really got anything from Rogue One, and I could see that movie warranting an expansion in some way... I'd avoid the actual Rogue One team, and use the supporting characters like Krennic and Saw Gerrera. A comic book release would be plenty of fun: Dr. Aphra (Mercs), Sana Starros (Rebels), and Inspector Tolvan or Queen Trios (Imperial) would have a certain symmetry as a skirmish wave. I'd really like to see Mandalorian Commandos as well, with a Boba Fett fix.

As for campaign expansions, these are the environments that could make sense: forest/swamps (Endor and Dagobah), volcanic (Sullust and Mustafar), mines/tunnels (Jedha, Shu-Torun).

Yes!

I could see these being mixed a little, too. Shu-Torun had volcanic areas too.

It would definitely be a big departure from the previous map tiles. I wonder, would it be best to do the obvious thing and make them compatible with desert tiles? Or would something like merc interior tiles work better?  Or, would we just get an entirely new tile type like in RtH?

So, so true. In fact I think your second paragraph there contains more info about the personality and motivations of Gun Guy (what was his name again? - actually never mind, I don't care) than was in the movie script.

But to avoid this post being purely off-topic, my wishlist, in no particular order: Endor/Ewoks, Yoda, Kyle Katarn, Mara Jade, Speeder Bikes if they can make them work in the rules. And (like many others - so I'm surprised FFG haven't done this yet) I'd love to see an anti-hero campaign from the Imperial POV, which would probably need a few more Rebel non-uniques to make it work (not loads though).

I'm personally not at all bothered about Zuckuss and 4-LOM, but clearly others are, so yeah, do those guys too.

After that... is there even any more that's worthwhile? I mean, I love the game and don't want FFG to stop putting out new stuff for it, by any means... but there does come a point where the phrase "scraping the barrel" springs to mind. The Star Wars universe is enormous of course, and no doubt there's cool stuff in it that I just haven't come across, but I do see people asking for Xdkfhkah Zdfkhajkf or something, and I think, OK, I'm sure that the limited-release EU novella that character appeared in briefly was lovely and all, but nobody knows who it is so how much value will it really add, as another unit in the game?

I guess it's not everybody's thing, but I think that given the amount of Star Wars media we're continually getting now, we don't need to dig too deeply to find new stuff.

Again, maybe not everybody wants it, but I see characters like Aphra, Enfys Nest, and Kallus as easy adds that hardly approach the bottom of the barrel. Rogue One clearly has its fans, as do Solo, the comics, and more.  The last two boxed releases were heavily based on Rebels, and the wave before them included content both from Rebels and the comics.

I don't think the game should try to survive purely on the supplementary media, but padding it with some of the multi-media stuff while also bringing in movie-centric items (like Yoda, ewoks, speeder bikes, tauntauns, etc) should make everyone happy.

Making them blend with the desert environment would be a waste, imo. I'm hoping for something more like HotE: tiles which blend into Merc interior and Imperial interior can create really varied maps. The idea I had was one side volcanic (grey/black rock, magma flows) and the other side underground (tunnels, mines, factory-esque stuff). The underground tiles could always be blended with desert or forest tiles for side missions, and the volcanic tiles could represent plenty of worlds. Mustafar and Sullust are the main ones, but as you point out Shu-Torun is volcanic too. Even Jedha-post-DS-test could work! All of those planets have plenty of opportunities for tunnels, factories, mines, and stuff like that.

I've kicked around a few homebrew expansion ideas with this tile combination. The basic narrative idea began with the Rebels sabotaging an Imperial shipping depot on Sullust. They begin to discover that various factories and mines in the area are shipping valuable building materials to a remote world in the Outer Rim... the campaign leads them to Mustafar, where their ultimate goal is to disrupt the construction of a Dark Side shrine (or some other weird building project) in the shadow of Vader's castle.

I'd like to see Saw for the rebels, seventh sister and second brother for imperials and Melch for the mercs Hondo needs his sidekick!

As to bringing baze and chirrut into the campaign its super easy (barely an inconvenience).

Spoilers!!!!!!!!!!

In the book guardians of the whills Saw recruits them both and they spend some time fighting with the Partisans before being turned off by saws methods. Just have the campaign mission be something based around that
