Prokins 57 Posted August 11, 2018 Hi Everyone, I'm about to paint my AT-ST (following Sorastro's guide) and I was wondering if there is a cheaper alternative to using Citadel's Mechanicus Standard Grey model paint for the primer. Further details: I don't have an airbrush I prefer not to use a brush-on primer I'd like the grey to closely match Mechanicus Thanks in advance for your suggestions! Skyguard 60 Posted August 13, 2018 How much cheaper do you want? Assuming you're in the US a can of Citadel Mechanicus Gray MSRP is $19.50, Army Painter Uniform Grey is $15. So you're only looking at a ~$5 savings if you go that way (Uniform grey is less blue I think then Mechanicus Gray). However from watching the Sorastro's video on the AT-ST I think just about any gray will work as you are then painting a base coat of Mechanicus Standard Gray and Zandri Dust over the primer. I've used krylon's colormaster primer on other mini's with good results over the years you should be able to pick up a can at walmart for ~$5. So it's up to you if you want to save ~$10-15 dollars or just buy the can of Mechanicus Gray.
Prokins 57 Posted August 13, 2018 Thanks for the information, Skyguard! I will look into Krylon. And that's a good point about it being covered up anyway.
