FF Please stop ignoring Descent... :(

Polish FFG Descent distributor-Galakta, claimed that they are currently working on RTL patch right now for Polish localization. So probably there is something going on- at least at the localisation level. They said they got some files to work on recently.   And this week last missing box- Mists of Bilehall hit the shops here:)

It really depends on what the are working on exactly. If it's just additional localization or corrections for already existing content, this can be patched in without the need for an update of the application itself, as the translations are just streamed into the game once it is started.

It would be different though, if they need to fix a technical problem (for example the display of special localized letters in their fonts) or if they indeed added new content. That would be great, but I wouldn't get my hopes too high yet.

I was on the fence with D2e for a couple of years as I had committed to Armada and dabbled a bit with X-wing.  But every time I’d go into my FLGS, I’d keep getting drawn to D2e and, eventually, I took the plunge.  Knowing the product was getting a bit stale and possible nearing end of life, I snagged all the expansions, lieutenants, and m&h packs and was banking on scenarios being released for RtL.  I must admit that I’m a bit shocked FFG hasn’t capitalized on using RtL to sell more scenarios/campaigns.  I suspect they don’t have the resources dedicated to writing worthwhile content for the app, but still, it seems like a bit of a let down and a missed opportunity.  They could have easily converted all the boxed set scenarios/campaigns into a digital co-op format for RtL, charged a bit of money, and made a decent profit.

I’d have a hard time committing to a 3rd edition to be honest and they charge a bit much for upgrade packs.

I'm in exactly the same boat as you. Enjoyed the app with the base game and bought the full collection hoping for more....

Of course:) There are some glitches when it comes to localized version, so maybe there is more in the pipe than just new translation.

Did you mean "Chains that Rust"?

Mists of Bilehall, there was no production run from FFG to make localized edition so release was postponed till FFG make new batch. Chains got released first with previous reprint around a year ago.

Yep.  I was really hoping that we'd at least see the original campaigns released for RtL.  As I said, I'd have gladly paid for them and it'd be relatively easy for FFG to convert the existing the scenarios/campaigns to co-op, so I don't really get their lack of commitment to D2e via RtL.  The app seems like it would have been a great way for FFG to extract more money out of an aging product and make the fans happy; it would even potentially bring in additional sales of physical product, like it did with me as I'd rather play co-op than 1 vs many.

I thought the campaigns would come over as well.

They should just give us the tools they use and let us make them.

That's what is really sad about the RtL situation. The built the very functional framework, they added quite a bit of content for free, and at it's peak it seems as if they decided to abandon app development.

I know huh, this clearly wasn't the plan...things must be really fubar at ffg. I sold my copy of mansions of madness and have stopped buying ffg games.

Absolutely. An adventure creator for the community and a central library of content. Would cost them very little to do and yet fans would be ecstatic and they would surely get sales out of it.

However it could sink a 3rd ed (unlimited content for 2nd ed), so I fear that's why they won't.

I'm real skeptical of that. The current quest vault never seemed to do very well and that's before we're talking about writing for an app... Furthermore the shadow rune project doesn't seem to be going anywhere particularly fast.

The Shadow Rune project hinges on the volunteered free time of a single programmer. These things get a lot more done when people put some money behind it.

Problem with the Quest Vault is that is very clumsy web based creator. It seems to be not supported anymore and hanged in Open Beta status forever. Chains that rust are missing from tile base.  By adding this function with some tweaks to Road to legend app would be great addition, ofc with possibility to for example make random dungeons then tweak it by myself, or campaign creation tool I would proffer that over the Trials of Frostgate to be honest if available.

I get that the quest vault wasnt a success but this was for traditional adventures of which there are/were already a lot of official ones.

Whereas a lot of people really loved how the app play worked but the content is very limited, so I think it would get more attention.

Only a guess though

And that's a big part of my point. The quest vault is largely full of quests that haven't received enough attention to get the bugs worked out and I don't think writing for the app will make that process shorter or simpler....

My assumption is that the same coders work on the RTL app and the Imperial Assault app. So if they're making something for one they can't be making it for the other.

Perhaps now Jabba's realm is out it means we'll get something new? I'm reminded of the people datamining the app and finding new heroes in there, I still don't understand why they exist if there's nothing new coming for it at any point in time.

Programmers often have spare time where they are waiting for something to finish, such as compiling an .exe. They often fill that time working ahead on things they don't plan to finish implementing for a long time if they are simple.

Patience is indeed a virtue. But we have been staying tuned for about a year now. At some point you have to ask yourself if you're just being led on.

The Shadow Rune project stalls because it's a single developer making the app the content runs on. It isn't content for RtL, it's content for Valkyrie. When Valkyrie bugs out and doesn't get addressed, content building stops. If there was a supported editor for RtL you would not be seeing the slowdowns like you are with the Shadow Rune Project.

Hey,

I love Descent so much but it's hard to get players to go for it. What saddens me more is to see Gloomhaven having so much success... a game that did not need to be fully coop. But it is. So when I think of a Descent 3ed, I think they will go for skirmish (Army points, maps, like IA) and the campaigns , sadly will be full coop. I just don't have fun with cooperative games at all.

But that's the second worry, the first is that FFG seems to be heavily invested in 1 Coop game, 2 LCGs, 1 Miniatures game and 1 skirmish board game.  When you think of it, they can broad the customer base on each category with the game they focus on , rather than print more games.  I truly don't think they will launch a new Edition, rather, they want to go with RPG.. it seems they are throwing RPG into all their Lores to see which one is the one that sticks.

But to end with something positive, I think fan made content for Descent is good.. so I'd encourage to "stay tuned" here for more fan made content. Specially content that will address FINALLY the expansions.. you know all those expansion tiles get rarely used.... Also good to know that people are selling their copies of descent; you can get good deals for your missing expansions

Well they've built their own rpg (Genesys) which they advertise is "compatible with any setting" so it would make sense to pump out lore books for it. Thing is the RPG market is pretty saturated. I mean there are multiple fantasy rpgs that have whole companies devoted to pumping out product just for them and huge pre-existing fan bases. How does ffg rationally expect to break into that market?

And that's before taking a look at their RPG, I mean I've barely scratched the surface on it and have already run into multiple things I heavily dislike, which seems pretty grim....

Totally agree

A thing I love about Descent: it feels like a skirmish RPG when you dont have the time/patience/energy for a full RPG.  I stopped playing those years ago. RPG market is saturated. but also it is a more reduced one (lack of patience/energy/time) :)
