Nebs are great!

Recommended Posts

But only in numbers!!!

So, how best to use these much maligned ships?  I like running them in pairs at slow speed with slaved turrets at the back with CF dials giving me 5 red dice at long range whilst other ships (transports & hammerheads) get in close to slow the imperial larges up allowing me more time to shoot them.

this set up (with one of them being salvation) comes in about the same cost as less than kitted out ISD 120 with about the same health

Yavaris is great.

Salvation is good, maybe even great in a Sato list with black dice getting 3 damage each on hit/crit results. I played against one recently with Sato, Opening Salvo and CF dial granting 5 Black and a red.

Normal Nebulons aren't so hot. I don't think I have never seen one in a tournament. The front arc is small and quite easy for targets to get out of. Their flank hull zones are weak so I found using multiple Nebs in a list would get each one fired at through the flank. Against Imperials you are less vulnerable to this as the enemy usually come towards you as well and the double braces help a lot if you can keep the enemy on the front shield. Banking a repair token early can move 2 rear shields back onto your front giving you another chance to brace and survive a second large volley.

At a heavy squadron games they could be beneficial but these days I think they are too light for fleet action,

Nevertheless I sometimes add to my fleet just because they look good and I love playing with original trilogy ships ( w/CR-90, MC80s)

I've never stopped using Neb Bs though I stooped using titles for background reasons.  They work surprisingly well with Leia seeing as they often have to change speed quickly.  Their mid level repair and squadron values (for the escort) also benefit from her.

If you can, get the front pointed at the enemy and the side at some engaged squadrons.  The side arc is a weakness but it also makes your anti-squadron fire pretty all encompassing.

I love the look of nebs and have tried them in a bunch of lists. They almost always disappoint, barring Yavaris.

Mediocre dice, no way to fix rolls, and huge side arcs are big drawbacks.  It's so tricky to put them in a position where they can't be shot in the sides.  Even if your front guns can tag an enemy, there's a good chance they can draw LOS to your flank.
