Rebel answer to Palpatine and Royal Guard

I'd say Kenobi and Honour Guard.

Kenobi would be allright,  Rebel Honour Guard not so much.

It would be the first unit that is not allready present in Imperial Assault, but I think there is something like this in destiny. But since in most releases the units in one faction  more or less mirrored the assets in the other faction, I'm afraid we will get Honour Guard. Plus, these guys are featured in the original triology like every other unit so far. They are also allready shown on the "Esteemed Leader" upgrade card.

Any other guesses?

Either way, the direct answer to Palpatine and Royal Guards would likely be... moar Z6s!

I'd say the direct counter would be vehicles with armor. Neither the redshirts nor Palp has Impact, and 6 dice with surge/crit are not a lot. That means other than most imperial list, Palp/Royal Guard lists might struggle a bit with armor.

Palpatine looses a lot of speed when he has to move around two or three ATRT Bases. Z6s can then shoot at him from distance without getting his force lighting back in the face

Yeah, I actually think a good Palp counter is... naked AT-RTs!

With surge to crit and so many dice, he'll probably still be rather good against armour (especially with pierce 2) with "natural" crits with about 1.75 crits per shot if I'm not mistaken

be surprised how many crits the ATRT causes with its surge to crit and rotary blasters.
Palp will still hit armored pretty reliably, just not with a full attack's worth majority of the time.

Also, this is Imp's third commander. They arent keeping the units equal theyre keeping the slots equal. So rebels have an Operative and Elite slot missing in comparison atm, which is EASILY Chewie for the Operative and more than likely Wookie Warriors, since the only other unit he technically pairs with would be Ewoks and...no just no (plus they'd be corps not elites).

We arent requiring a Rebel-Palp or Rebel-RG, just the operative slot and a 2nd Elite.
Wookie Warriors will probably be a primarily melee unit with multiwounds too. Perhaps no ranged other than grenade equips but a brutal melee. And not immune to pierce.

I agree with that.

I think the next move should be Chewbacca to give the rebels an Operative and even the commanders/operatives numbers for both factions, and a bunch of wookies could be a good addition that could be similar to the Royal Guards but for rebels.

I’m not overly anxious about anything they might do with the game at this point.  I’d love to paint an Obi wan but I feel like Chewbacca is so noticeably absent that he will show up first.  But you never know.  

 

Right now they are releasing these faster faster than I can keep up.  I still have to finish some of my second core set, finish my fleet troopers, Veers and the snowtroopers!

Which is still rubbish if you consider that Palp will cost 4 or 5 times as much as a naked ATRT. On average, he needs 3 turns to finish off one ATRT even with a RG unit, we are looking at 2 turns. If he is busy with the walker, his move forward is hampered and he can be shot at for another turn or two. Good trade off for the rebel.

On top off that, each of his wounds is worth 45 points or so. If some ATRT manage to get one good swing at him before they die, they have done an even better job  job. I like some naked ATRTs even in the current meta for a lot of reasons. Against Palp with Royal Guard, they are really good value for their points. Pierce is practically canceled out anyway,  because ATRT have a bad defense die without surge to begin with.

There really shouldn't be an Obi-Wan as he never participated in the Galactic Civil War, never mind having a commander rank in the Rebellion. But, then, it's kind of silly to have Palpatine leading ground army troops, so who knows what they'll do...they threw him into Imperial Assault...

Also, why would Palpatine dirty his hands with ATRTs? That's what DLTs are for (and they already did it turn one).

Tauntauns, 3 per squad, 2 wounds, 2 morale, 3 speed, possible fourth mini with heavy weapon.

Most probably we will see the wookies, even though we did not see any other wookie besides chewie during the galactic civil war... Im so tired of wookies. I'd rather have 15 minis of ewoks. It would be much more fun and lore friendly. Setting traps around the battlefield... Even the imps would have fun shooting at those little bastards.

I'd prefer they get away from mirrored "answers" to the other armies figures.  Give us some variety! Why would the Rebels have Honour Guard.   They don't have an Emperor. Throw in some guerillas or saboteurs/explosive specialists

In melee those are terrible when charging with the head, besides, if you put a soldier with a grenade launcher on it it can be something more than just a scout unit.

You can also play Obi Wan in Imperial Assault.  Even though the first mission of the core game takes place as his particles are raining down on Yavin IV.

As i mentiomed it on facebook i really hate mirrored design and just predicting rebel palpatine, rebel boba and rebel guard is just out of place to me. Such thinks takes away faction identity. Even if we look at pur current units rebel commandos ARENT exact mirror of Imperial Scouts because scouts are already more close range oriented. Snow troopers are no way similar to fleet troopers and only mirror right now thati can think of (and it makes me angry) is veers and leia because how similar they are and yet they are from 2 diffrent factions. I hope in the future ffg will work on more defined faction identity and release republic and droids that wll be WAY diffrent than rebels and imps.
