Where is Yoda?

Recommended Posts

My biggest disappointment in IA is the game has been out for years and still no talk of a Yoda pack!

yoda, Chewie, r2, and Vader are the franchise mascots. Not only is yoda one of the coolest characters with awesome ability, it just feels wrong not having a Yoda miniature.

I mean there is yoda tree toppers, lawn ornaments, cookie jars, coffee mugs, pastry cutters, slippers, Yoda everything, but no Yoda IA figure. Kind of lame.

Because it makes zero sense thematically.  It is only good for skirmish, where people don't care about such things, only more plastic and new abilities.

Speak for yourself.

I know there are people who are really into things being super-thematic (and that's great for them, honestly) but personally I'd rather have things that I think are cool.  Greedo, Obi-Wan and the Inquisitor was one of my favourite expansion waves despite the fact that it makes zero sense for them to be alive during most of these campaigns (let alone involved in the goings-on of the empire/rebellion confiict).  I like all those characters, though, and they have fun and thematic abilities, so to me they were a huge positive addition to my campaigns.  Same goes for the likes of the Emperor and Jabba; it makes no sense for either to be directly confronting a bunch of no-name rebels on some backwater planet somewhere, but I still love what they bring to the game since their abilities are fun, unique, and do a really good job of fitting their characterizations.

Yoda would be the same, and he's at the top of my list of figures I'd like to see added.  I'd be really excited to see how they build him mechanically, since I think that (like they did with Thrawn) they could do some really cool things with him.

And if you don't think he fits thematically?  Awesome!  Don't buy him and your problem is solved :)

How isn't he thematic? Bc he is on Dagohbah?

we have Ob1, Greedo, Maul, Inquisitor, And the rebels cast coming up who are all gone for most of the timeline.

then Jabba as awesome as the piece is, isn't thematic in a fight.

it's an alternate universe. Mix up, retell, have a blast.

The moment FFG makes a Clone Wars era expansion, Yoda is gonna come popping out :)

Have they ever answered why they don't make any Clone Wars era content?

they have been scrapping the bottom of the barrel in x wing for years now and still won't go to those awesome ships we have actually seen on screens.

clone wars era has more variety and well explored troops and ships.

They've never said they wouldn't. My guess is that with the prequels being less highly regarded they've done some study that said prequel boxes wouldn't sell as well and there are other things they'd rather do first.

This is FFG we're talking about so I doubt they've ever answered anything ?

But seriously, I grew up on the OT and didn't love the PT movies, but I'd buy the hellion out of a PT box or two! There's so much material to mine there; so many conflicts and so many nifty units. I hope FFG takes the brave leap soon and gives us a big box of Battle Droids, Clone Troopers, Droidakhas, and Geonosians, not to mention interesting new landscapes and a ton of named characters etc. Oh well, a boy can dream...

Obviously FFG didn't agree with that when they ditched time periods and decided to put dead characters into a game that takes place ABY, like Obi-Wan, Greedo, Inquisitor, and... certain Rebels characters that were put into Heart of the Empire and Tyrants of Lothal.

I'm hoping we get Yoda in a figure wave like Wave 7, perhaps alongside Zuckus/4-Lom and Mara Jade (maybe renamed Sith acolyte or something the same way they renamed Carnor Jax into the Royal Guard Champion). I also hope he's represented as OT Yoda through mechanics like non-combatant and speed 3 and not prequel Yoda, but I'm probably in the minority there. Being able to push objects like terminals and objectives would be really cool for the Rebel faction in skirmish that struggles with holding objectives, albeit possibly broken for that reason.

I would assume that we are going to see a Rogue One box after this Rebels box, then who knows where they take us.. but Yoda is coming. No way they do all of the characters they have done and NOT do Yoda. He won't be the back flipping Yoda from the prequels (thank god) but probably a cheaper support type unit that gels well with Force users. Pure speculation of course.

What Heart of the Empire taught us is they really can take the game anywhere, but what the box expansions have ALSO taught us is that they like to try and anchor it with a known character. They are running out of those high profile type characters.

Totally.  HotE was probably the biggest shock because everyone was expecting something more anchored in the actual films, but Lothal might be the most bizarre release so far.

Really, the only thing that would be familiar to someone who's only seen the films is Death Troopers, and even then they weren't a huge role in Rogue One.

Tyrants is definitely taking this game off the grid (which personally, I immensely enjoy) but I'd imagine that they'll want to reign it back in soon with a future wave, at least a bit.

Ya and that is a good point, if they think Rebels is enough to support interest they might do more comic book based characters in the blister waves. Really I think the correct answer here is we have no idea what direction the game is going lol.

I do think it is very likely though we see Yoda associated to a box release at some point.

If we look at the boxes:

Core - Luke, Vader, Chewie, Han (IG-88)
Twin Shadows - R2/C3P0 and Boba Fett
Return to Hoth - Leia (Dengar)
Bespin Gambit - Lando (Bossk)
Jabba's Realm - Jedi Luke and Jabba
Heart of the Empire - Palp (Maul and Ahsoka)
Tyrants of Lothal - Ezra, Kanaan, Sabine, Zeb, Thrawn and Hondo

They follow a trend, each box has a known character associated to it. Something to draw people to buy the box and then be disappointed that character isn't actually IN the box :P But that is a whole other story.

Some characters are less popular than others, especially to main stream fans, such as IG, Dengar, Bossk, Maul?, Ahsoka.. but are VERY popular with hard core fans.

I think Lothal broke this mold slightly in that it just threw a huge amount of named characters at the box to help it float. IF you've never seen Rebels you might not even care about this box or the characters, or if you were a casual fan it might be enough to prompt you to buy it. Or if you are a skirmish fan you have no choice :)

I think they will do the same thing with a Rogue One box. A bunch of named figure pack releases (Jyn, Cassian, K2, Chirrut/Baze, Krennic, Saw, the pilot.. who knows how deep they go) associated with a box expansion. Might even see a few of these come out ahead of time like the Inquis and Hera/Chopper in a blister wave.

After that, they are kind of out of options for this era besides going back to releasing with known, higher profile characters. And who is left? 4LOM and Zuckuss? Yoda? Who is missing from that era that can anchor the box?

That of course isn't to say they just do blister waves for a while with multi unit packs and lesser known characters from the comics or new lore. OR they shock us all and say Nah we aren't doing a 2.0, we are releasing TFA onward and drop a big box in that respect. Something tells me though 2.0 will be based on the new trilogy though and they are saving all of that.

I'd be okay with Yoda being broken =D.

Also, you're forgetting the golden rule:

Quote

Card abilities can override the rules listed in this guide

If a card ability says Yoda can push objects, then Yoda can push objects.

To Yoda or not to Yoda, that's a reasonable question. A great many reasons for and against.

I then present the following question:

Where's Yaddle? (that'd be the Other Yoda-like creature on the Jedi council), no history there, she could be anywhere.

We get a Yoda like figure, but not exactly Yoda, introduce as a box expansion where the Empire are sniffing round old Jedi temples looking for artifacts - open up the possibility for a new Imperial commander, and some Scout troopers/Imperial Commandoes.

I think Yoda might make sense in a RotJ-based expansion which also brings us to Endor. It would bring Ewoks to the table, bring things back around to the movies, and bring us back to a forest/swamp environment. The story could take place *after* RotJ, based around Force artifacts... retrieving something from Vader's funeral pyre, visiting Yoda's hut, maybe another trip to Yavin IV, stuff like that. The idea I have in my head is that the Rebels begin on Endor, fighting off Imperial remnants, to recover something from Vader's body (like his lightsaber's kyber crystal, or whatever). Their adventures eventually lead them to Dagobah, where with the help of Yoda's ghost they must enter the cave of the Dark Side to fight off Vader's ghost to accomplish some generic goal of bringing balance to the Force.

This also lets them introduce Yoda into the game in the way that makes the most sense: as a Force ghost. We've seen in Rebels that he appeared to people as a "ghost" even before his eventual death, so implementing Yoda as a ghost or vision would work in any timeline. No lightsaber, no direct combat, and perhaps protected against conventional weapons; he can fill a dedicated support role like Threepio.

Vader's ghost? Was Anakin's ghost somehow split in two and we haven't known about it?

There's actually been a theory that this is the case, believe it not.

The idea is that Anakin's light side became its own ghost, but Vader's dark side was still strong to be its own persona. The lore gets pretty messy when you try to make sense of this, but what makes it interesting is that this could potentially explain why it seems like Vader has been contacting Kylo Ren.

Still, I'm not sold on the theory.

Regarding the plot, let's see:

Would this be a fair categorization of them?

Core- Twist on the "Superweapon" trope

Twin Shadows- Honestly not sure what this plot would be categorized as

Return to Hoth- Refugee rescue

Bespin- Uprising

Jabba's Realm- Working with mercs, also caring for refugees

HotE- Artifact hunt

Lothal- Looks like another uprising

I'd be down for another artifact hunt, since it allows for the story and gameplay to interact more.
