Imperial Outpost Theta

Recommended Posts

Yeah, definitely 40k. I don't think the Imperial Gothic look quite fits the Star Wars esthetic, but it certainly looks good enough in a pinch.

I'll tell you what I'm really impressed with: the Eastern Mediterranean oasis town stuff. That's pretty inspiring. I'm curious about your sources for the various palm trees.

Thanks for the kind words!  The industrial terrain is 40k stuff but fits well for a space feel.  the buildings are from tablescapes terrain and I highly recommend them.  Stuff is prepainted but I always use some inks and typhus corrosion paint to make it pop.  All models are airbrushed and inked, almost zero brush work.  The ATAT is the Disney popcorn container from Hollywood studios, Walt Disney World.  Its 25 bucks and worth every penny!  I just airbrushed it and it looks pretty good.  The trees are an assortment of palm trees from a cheap Chinese company I found online.  I just used sand resin and various 40k bases to make bunches of trees.  Then inked and drybrushed them quickly.  Wish I could upload more and better pictures but Im not great with computers and this site has a small data limit.  Any suggestions how to get around that?  I see other people post dozens of pictures and I wonder how they do it.  I just got my box of Imperial Terrain stuff and Im pretty excited to get that painted.  Its higher quality than I thought!  3D printing has come a long way.  I would recommend them.  The only downside is that the plastic is a bit brittle.  Not a big deal unless you travel with terrain pieces a lot.  I play out of my house so no worries!

It is an amazing table and looks fantastic.  I’m assuming the town walks etc are modular so you could open it up a bit for gaming.

Right now it’s goid enough looking to be a diorama or display piece.  Super impressive.

I have an airbrush but I just use it for priming.  Maybe someday I will figure out how to paint things with it.

Everything is modular for easy storage and movement. There are several doors and archways throughout the walls so troops have easy access to the center while still enjoying plenty of line of sight blocking cover. We decided an ATST could just walk over the low walls unhindered and the ATRT has special rules where it effectively ignores terrain like that for movement. I hope to play a game on that table this weekend and if I can figure out how to upload more pictures I’ll do a battle report. I used my airbrush for priming in the beginning also!  I recommend badger airbrush paints. Just start with 3 or 4 shades of gray and start dark and use progressively lighter shades. First spray the whole model, then as you use lighter shades begin spraying from the top down. The last coat of light paint should be from 90 degree overhead only. This will create natural shadow effects. Then just use inks and shades for color, works great!!!  I rarely use paint brushes anymore, it’s so much quicker without it. I will use a 50/50 mix of shade and future floor polish for areas I don’t want to get too dark. The floor polish pushes the colors into crevasses and leaves the raised and flat areas barely shaded. Hope that helps!

Looks great.

My concern would be the limitations it places on ATST movement etc?

In my opinion that is the beauty of this table. Not every table needs to be Repulsor Vehicle or AT-ST friendly. With the range of the AT-ST arsenal you could make a stand from the outskirts. I could see this stronghold being built by the rebels just for this reason.

It reminds me somewhat of Jedha in Rogue One. AT-ST's did walk the streets but it seemed like there were alot of choke points that they probably wouldn't be able to go through.
