The good, the bad, and the ugly.

Recommended Posts

The good is that I just acquired a small X-Wing collection (Total of 14 ship models).
The bad is that its all 1.0 stuff, and this will not be supported anymore.
The ugly is that now I might have to buy all 2.0 stuff.

Should I ebay this stuff before going down the 2.0 rabbit hole?

My opinion is No if your wanting to play X-Wing.

Buying 14 small based ships in 2.0 = 280$

Buying All 3 upgrade kits if the ships are all three seperate factions AND a Starter for 2.0 = 190$

All ships are one faction and a Starter of 2.0 = 90$

Also you MAY not get that much money out of it if you do eBay it. Cause some are already bailing and so there is quite a bit to choose from and people will likely buy a lot less 1.0 leading up to 2.0 unless its HEAVILY discounted. Id personally pay only about 10-12 dollars for SEALED product right now, if its loose Id pay no more than 7 or 8 so from me youd be looking at only about 112$ if you sold it to me personally. These are just my numbers.

Speaking as someone in a similar-ish situation, I really do feel for you. I think a lot depends on how much use you think you're going to get out of your collection: if it's just the occasional game and you have a tight budget, then spending even $90 to upgrade 14 ships might be doubling-down on a bad investment. But if you really like the game and plan to pay regularly (and buy more) then upgrading might be the most cost-effective route.

I do agree that ebaying your existing collection now is probably a bad move.

Is it 14 ships of all different factions?

There was two core sets, so 6 of the 14 are from the core sets (2 X-Wings and 4 Tie Fighters). The others are 3 Rebels (A-Wing, Y-Wing, Falcon) and 5 Empire (2 Tie Intercepts, Tie Advanced, Tie Bomber, Firespray).

I actually think you're in pretty good shape. With a new core set, a Rebel Conversion Kit, and an Imperial Conversion Kit ($140 total), you'll have everything you need to play with all of those ships, a new X-Wing, two TIE Fighters, and tons of cards for proxying other ships that you don't have the models for.

It's actually a really good deal, especially for newer players who didn't decide to play all three factions with the maximum number possible of each ship.

It's probably cheaper to keep the models and buy Conversion kits, especially if you recoup some of the cost by ebaying the surplus. There'll likely be a big market for piecemeal conversion kits.

That is actually a pretty good fit for the conversion kits for empire and rebels. If you are dedicated to playing, start setting aside enough money for the new core and 2 conversion kits (so 130-ish$ I guess). If you still have hobby budget left over for X-Wing, buy ships according to the conversion kit contents. You actually have the opportunity here to get into X-Wing 2.0 pretty cost-efficiently.

For your reference (though they can also be seen in the FAQs here), the conversion kit contents:

Rebel Alliance Conversion Kit

3 – A-wing
2 – ARC-170
2 – Auzituck Gunship
2 – B-wing
2 – E-wing
2 – Ghost
2 – HWK-290
2 – K-wing
2 – Millennium Falcon
2 – Phantom I
2 – Phantom II
2 – Sabine’s TIE Fighter
2 – U-wing
2 – X-wing
2 – Y-wing
2 – YT-2400
4 – Z-95 Headhunter

Galactic Empire Conversion Kit

3 – Alpha-class Star Wing
3 – Inquisitor’s TIE
2 – Lambda-class Shuttle
2 – TIE Advanced
3 – TIE Aggressor
3 – TIE Bomber
2 – TIE Defender
4 – TIE Fighter
3 – TIE Interceptor
2 – TIE Phantom
2 – TIE Punisher
3 – TIE Striker
2 – VT-49 Decimator

Maybe getting X_Wing miniatures is a bad idea. Getting a new PS4 and Battlefront will cost less. ?

lol

buddy, I do not recommend the EA games if you're worried about a game losing the support of its developers

EA is jumping ship harder than the resistance in TLJ

and no, converting your collection will not cost less. Start small, see if it's worth building up from there. Don't be silly and spend hundreds of dollars when you definitely don't need to

Not needing Scum/FO/Resistance conversion kits is awesome.  Get the new core, grab the galactic and rebel conversion kit and have fun.

Added bonus:  you'll have the conversion kit components for other ships you do even have yet.  So if/when you want a new ship like a Yeing or Defender, you can find one of the 1.0 models cheap

I am in a similar situation (10 of each Rebels and Imperials, no scum). I intend to buy a Rebel conversion kit and see if I can swap/sell the extras for the Imperial conversions I need.

My only vague concern is that there might be some Imperial-only upgrade cards I won't physically have, but I also have no designs on serious competitive play (and if I did I'd probably just go Rebel anyway).

What are these upgrade "cards" you may have concern over? :)

Theres an app for that, the glorious 2.0 app.  That I'm sure will have no bugs whatsoever!
