Resistance & First Order ships in 2.0

Recommended Posts

Since Resistance and First Order are going to be separate factions in second edition, I wanted to take a look at the current ships available to these factions:

First Order:

  • TIE/fo
  • TIE/sf
  • Upsilon shuttle
  • Tie Silencer

The Resistance:

  • T-70 X-wing
  • YT-1300
  • B/SF-17 Bomber

What ships would you like to see added to these factions? Is there even enough material to choose from now? I guess we have to wait a bit as they will become larger in the next years when the new TV series and IX. movie come out.

The only other ship available that comes to my mind right now is the RZ A-wing.

Yeah, the concrete next ship is the RZ-2 A-Wing. There have been sightings of stuff like FO Bombers in some promotional material, but I don’t think they have been expanded upon, yet.

But the new cartoon looks like it’s gonna be furtle ground for new ships to come to the Resistance and First Order.

There's also the "B-Wing Mk 2 Transport" that Leia arrived to Maz's castle in during TFA.

And yeah, the Empire getting repaint white-on-black TIE Bombers seems probable.  So...at least 5 different ships for each faction, already.  Sounds like FFG is going to try to make them viable with number of pilots, too.

First Order needs a bomber, but none have made it on-screen. Based on what has appeared on screen, we could get:

  1. The AAL-1971. It's only 17.83 meters long, so it's probably only a medium base.
  2. The Xi-class light shuttle may be a cheaper and smaller alternative to the Upsilon.

On the opposite side of the fence, the Resistance have no less than 3 ships that have appeared on screen without an X-Wing conversion:

  1. The lifeboats from TLJ (best suited as a token like the "Senators Shuttle" from the core set)
  2. The RZ-2 AWing is obvious. If the Resistance doesn't get this eventually, FFG will have missed a golden opportunity.
  3. The Resistance Transport is lame looking, but may be required to give Resistance ships options other than the Falcon to utilize their crew slots.

I mean its mostly going to be repainted rebel and imperial ships, with a new design rarely thrown in. The factions lore-wise are ridiculously boring in that they are just rebel and imperial lite

There are also T-85 X-wings which I think have only ever been mentioned in the books/comics. Apparently they were all destroyed when the FO blew up those planets

Not sure if they warrant a whole new ship or just become a configuration for T-70s.

If I recall, the first order troop transport is shorter than a y-wing, so merits a small base.

The xi class shuttle would be fun, a first order sheathipede analog?   Has to be fast.

The new a-wing will be a tiny ship, but is most welcome.

The orbital loadlifter should be a ship for sure, even without weapons or shields.  A very cheap crew and coordinate ship. Special ability/upgrade canon has the resistance bombers with these as well) Sensor Baffler - unless a ship has you in their bullseye arc, you may spend a charge to change a defense die to an evade result.

Leia’s transport from the force awakens is interesting to me.   The cockpit which flies by itself is that of the new b-wing - and as I said is a ship in its own right.   What if the new b-wing is a workhorse vehicle?   With cargo modules (Leia’s transport), shuttle pod (The Last Jedi when flown by itself, and the unseen combat blade (for blade wing).  That would make it a modular ship, that you could fly three different ways.

I'd like to see the stats for bomber in 2.0

I tried flying it once, and it gets ripped to shreds so easily (hmmm, maybe just like the movie haha).

Do you mean imperial bomber or resistance bomber?  Imperial I agree whole heartedly. The resistance bomber I find to actually be pretty tank as long as you don't try to joust a Harpoon squad with it or something.

My current favorite build is Crimson Specialist with Delfective Plating, Accuracy Corrector, Bomblet Generator, and Sensor Cluster. 36 pts.

I was surprised the first time I used him how versatile his pilot ability was. Toss bombs in weird spots, move for blocks or to avoid fire and then focus for a guaranteed evade with the Sensor Cluster and make a guaranteed 2 hit attack from that large base turret.  With his 12 health it takes a while to kill it if you can fly it defensive and not get Swarm blasted by a whole enemy list

I would love it if it turns out that Y-Wings are still being used by the Resistance. “They’re still tickin’!”

In the comics, there is a single 2-seater BTL-S3 Y-Wing used by the Resistance. There was also a paramilitary organization called the Amaxine that were also using at least one Y-wing in that era.

We might also see some GCW era ship's with stuff added. Like the RZ1 A-wing getting the one duros pilot, a version of poe and or his mother, etc.

In the comics and novels we see some of those older ship's still in use, and they could be used to bulk out the resistance and first order a bit.

A Resistance Conversion kit should have some Rey-specific Falcon upgrades with it since it’s technically a Resistance ship.

The Falcon should, nay must have enough upgrades to use up all 200 points for list.  Since.. well.. the entire resistance fits in the one ship.

There's also the Resistance Transport Pod seen in TLJ (although it's basically just the cockpit of the new resistance transport, it's operational without the rest of it).

Also, there's still a chance we might see the T-85 X-Wing. If we're considering New Republic navy options, there's also the T-65C-A2 (with next to no information about it available) as well as the B-Wing.

And with the comics, there's the chance of Y-Wing, Z95, and E-Wing as they've all shown with Resistance operations there.

What's exactly different with the S3? The turret is supposed to be manually operated? Cause that in 2.0 is the difference between having a gunner slot and not having it...

I blocked that one from my memory based on how ugly and stupid it is.

Just like I blocked the Twilight. It is only acceptable to bring up the Twilight because this also happens:

I suppose if they really wanted to, they could make the ship that Finn and Rose piloted in the last movie.  It has more screen time than the Quadjumper as well as a few older ships :)
