1.0 Upgrades and Pilot Cards

Recommended Posts

With the announcement of 2.0, I'm questioning whether I want to sink more money into things I already own. I may have missed it, but what becomes of our existing Mods and upgrade cards? Thrown away as the pilot cards? Or do they get an auto errata at 0 points and can be used with 2.0?

Example is, if ANYTHING, I'm only going to purchase the Rebels conversion, as most of my ships are. BUT, I also have other factions ships, like the Starviper because it came with Autothrusters. Do the Autothrusters I already own become completely incompatible with my rebels ships?

SUMMARY:

Do the upgrade cards I own for 1.0 become errata'd or usable to be compatible with 2.0?

From what I've seen, almost all of the 1.0 upgrade cards are different in some way in 2.0. PTL and VI are gone, effects are no longer the same (R2 astromech now regens shields instead of turning maneuvers green), card names are different and there are new mechanics in 2.0 (the force, charges). In short, it looks like none of the 1.0 upgrade cards are compatible with 2.0.

However! That's only for official Organized Play. If you are only playing casually, using the list builder and proxying the cards is the same as ever and I'm sure that all the cards in the conversion kits you don't pick up will be online in the wiki or a builder shortly after they become available.

That's terrible. So, what about people who bought the epic ships to get Palp and all that? ( I didn't thank the Maker)

I know, just got both Gozanti and Raider and I'm now triggered. Epic ship conversion kit had better be free... I actually wanted the epics for Epic though.

Palp and Threepio will be in the standard conversion kits, sounds like.

Just got this from the livestream thread: all kits come with all the same faction-generic upgrades.

So if you only play Rebels and only get the rebel conversion kit, you will only miss out on the faction specific upgrades for Imperials and Scum.

i have a question?  ive noticed the changes to the pilot cards.  there are no symbols on the pilot ships to indicate what upgrades they are allowed.  how do you know what upgrades you will be able to use on your ships?

The app that will be released with 2.0.  There will probably be pdfs with the same info as well.  This way FFG can errata or alter ships without having to change the actual cards like what has happened with the Jumpmaster.

ok thats really stupid as well.  i know this sounds archaic, what if you dont have access to the app or the PDF's.  there are some people out there that dont go on the sites, they just think their buying a board game and want to play it at home.  can you imagine getting a game of monopoly and not having any instructions as to how to use the property?  thats basicly what your saying here.  there has to be a physical item that comes with the ships and update expansions to show you what each ship is allowed, having it on just the app is ridiculous cause someone could mod or hack app or not catch mistakes in it so it gives incorrect data.  a friend of mine used to buy the army builder for GW for warhammer and 40k, i cant tell you how many errors were on that app.  for tyranids it didnt get upgrades correctly for 2 separate editions.  so i still needed to use my army book to make lists.  im sorry i dont totally trust apps.  there are always mistakes and errors that people miss.

to force us to rely on it is completely lazy and irresponsible of FFG.

o PS,  i also noticed the 30 other posts on the forum asking or begging Mission Control to be updated.  im assuming thats an old FFG app for squad building?  i havent ever used it so i dont know. if it is, and from what ive read it only has half the available ships on it or its 6 waves behind?  what makes you think its going to be regularly updated to keep up with 2.0?  another reason to have physical copies of rules IN THE BOX.

yea i saw those.  im not a.... quick build kind of guy,  when i started warhammer my undead book had quick build characters, they set up hand to hand beatsicks with spellcasting gear and necromancers with hand to hand gear.  it was the stupidest thing ive ever seen. so im sorry quick builds....... no.  even in casual play i liked to make my own lists.  now for me looking up pdfs, or apps is no big deal.  im just saying for some people its a hassle.  and i think its irrisposible of ffg not to have those upgrade limitations for ships in the box and the cards.  honestly with the whole jumpmaster thing. that was their fault for not following their own balance rules.    im telling you this is one thing that will cause more issues then you guys think.

I agree with CushionRide  for some of us who are older and not use to all this tech stuff I am going to have hard time using the app and the part I like best about the game is doing my own builds

There is going to be a PDF on the site that you can print off and make lists on paper to your hearts content :)

Hi all,

If there are PDF's to download, then why not provide ALL the first round PDF's with all the bought content as printouts in the box?

Solves the problem of buying something only to find out you have to go online to buy the rest.

Not every X wing player goes on this forum. Parents buying the game as a present for kids may not be aware it can't be fully played out of the box.

If they are going to provide a rules book, then they should provide all the costs and such as well in the box.

Then give a website address where new versions can be downloaded from, when they are updated.

FFG should not only rely on the app on launch.

It's the only sensible way to do this.

Because, if that box eventually sits on the shelf for 2-3 months, and there are minor adjustments after the first quarter, the officially provided document would be providing incorrect information.  What they do need to do, though, is provide a URL (maybe as a QR code?) to the page where all the most current information is available for download and printing, so no matter WHEN the box is finally opened, there's access to correct information.

You could say the same about the rule book.

After a few months they could be changed, or updated, but to be fair, that only effects tournaments not casual play.

So it still stands that the first lot of costs and such should be in the box.

Just to add, the PDF might be a free download, but nothing is free.

Most people who download the PDF will most likey print it out, that costs paper and ink.

If every boardgame maker decided to give the rules out as a PDF not only do they save money in materials making the games, they also make money from the website players visit from advertising.

Would you still feel the same way if that happened to ALL boardgames?

I don't know about other people, but when I buy a game I expect it to be complete in the box.

When I buy a collectible game I don't remotely expect that.

Honesty, I've been hoping for a change like this for months.  Pricing is the easiest and most flexible way to balance things on an ongoing and agile basis.  Having the prices as an online list is the easiest way to make flexible pricing work.

Sounds fine to me.

I'm not disputing the fact that a flexible PDF is a good idea, I agree completey it's the way to go.

But I'm looking at the big picture, not everyone who plays X wing visits these forums or the ffg website.

I know people who still play with the original released rule book only (no official modified rules at all).

At the end of the day, in my view, any game you buy should be complete and playable without the need to visit a website for more info on rules.

And it won't hurt anyone to have the first set of lists as a printout in the box.  Where it can hurt people who buy the game and then have to spend more time to find and download a list when they don't care about tournaments.  Especially if they are't computer savvy or have net access, yes these people do still exist.

Again there is no harm in having a printout of the first set of PDF's  in the box, so why make a fuss.
