Talent tree - buying talents at tier 2

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone, I had a question about buying talents on specific talent trees. On the AoR Soldier Sharpshooter talent tree it shows a connecting line from the top tier 1 talents down to the tier 2 talents on 3 of the 4 listed. One of the talents is floating alone with no connecting lines to the tier 2 talents and I was wondering if you can buy straight into the tier 2 talent and skip that floating one since it's not connected, or do you have to buy another talent, then buy down the tree until eventually it connects up?

The exact talent is Deadly Accuracy, it shows as a tier 2 talent but isn't connected to the tier 1, so can it be bought right away or do you still have to buy other talents (grit>lethal blows>true aim>sniper shot) before you can buy that one?

You have to buy Tier 3 Sniper Shot below it, first.

Note that for some trees, directly descending a column is not possible, because there is a break in the listing. In these cases, the character must first descend a neighboring column, and then follow the line over before moving up or down the tree to access a desired talent.

The same thing happens on a much bigger scale in the Force-Sensitive Exile specialization.  Take a look!  You have to buy all the way down to Tier 4 before buying over and then up to get at the Tier 3 and Tier 2 talents in the center.  And for an even more obvious example... take a look at the Scoundrel, in the Smuggler trees... ;)

Another, even more extreme example is the Armorer Spec in  Keeping the Peace. to get to Saber Throw, you need to go all the way down to Supreme Armor Master, over through Falling Avalanche, Tinkerer, and Comprehend Technology, before moving up through Toughened. Alternatively, you could go through Mental Tools to Inventor, Improved Armor Master, down to Tinkerer, over to Comprehend Technology, and back up through Toughened to Saber Throw. The third option is to go from Gearhead, down to Grit, over to Armor Master, down through Improved Armor Master to Tinkerer, over to Comprehend Technology, up through Toughened to Saber Throw. All in all, Saber Throw has to be the most expensive second tier talent I've ever seen. The only column in the entire talent tree that you can go from top to bottom in a straight line is the fourth column.

In terms of weird tree designs? An inner loop with two framing brackets, one of which you have to buy down through to get access to that inner loop, and nothing else connecting. And despite the oddball shape it also ends up being one of the more linear trees.

Slicer and Gambler are crazy like that.  Dedication is a tier 2 talent on Gambler but it will cost you 125xp to get it.

Shien Expert is weird too, it’s basically two separate trees of two columns.

Gambler’s Dedication costs as much as it would in a normal tree even though it only costs 10 points. Slicer makes sense for the tree to be like that since most slicers would have the same base abilities. Shien is crazy because by the lore it has two distinct fighting styles that fall under its preview. Another wierd tree is Force Adherent from Dawn of Rebellion.
