Hyperspace Report Predictions?

Recommended Posts

I think they are doing another live stream today so I am holding up hope.

If I am honest like everyone it was very miss leading, we all expect them to talk about everything they have with Star Wars and they just talk about X-Wing, I dont play it and have no interest in it and just watched it for an hour for nothing.

Today’s livestream is supposed to be demonstrating and spot matches of XWing 2.0 between designers...

There was nothing saying that they were talking about all the lines.   The wording was vague, but at the same time, it was vague because it was a surprise announcement.   If they said x-wing news people would be up in arms, like they are now.

FFG didn't do anything wrong in my eyes with the announcement.    Is it dissapointing, a little, but x-wing 2.0! And I can use all my old ships!  This is good news.

Take this as a lesson, don't assume and build up expectations, then blame others when things don't play out exactly as you imagined.

I wish people would learn to stop making excuses for a company playing them as fools. Do you really think a professional writer led by a marketing team can't manage to draft an announcement and half-dozen tweets that accurately sets expectations? No they did this on purpose, absolutely. Even if it WAS accidental, people were talking about what would be coming for WEEKS, all FFG had to do was put out a tweet to clarify expectations. Instead they intentionally misled and manipulated in order to get more eyes on the new shiny.

FFG has been nothing but incompetent regarding releases and organized play for their games, and I had already decided that I am done. Going to continue playing and enjoying Legion and Destiny as long as the community is alive but I am not buying into any more new games. Now however, they've gone from incompetent to outright maliciously anti-consumer. They get a pass, it takes a lot to make me shun a company from a single action, but if this behavior continues then I am out completely and FFG will not see a single penny more of my money. I am sure if I am one of those folks who adjusted travel plans in response to the announcement and then got bait-and-switched I would probably already be out.

Its like they have made this beautiful star wars game just to spite us!!

Why wasn't this exactly what I wanted? Give it a couple more days, there's still time for them to talk about other games. But why not now???? Why do they hate capitalism???

Man, if this is your standard for believing that a company hates its customers then you're going to be in for some nasty shocks later in life.

At worst they wasted some of your time and led you to believe that you were getting a cupcake which never materialized.

This isn't even like the 5th the worst treatment by a company holding a Star Wars license I've experienced this century.

Battlefront 2.

Also, I don’t see why everyone is so upset about the 2.0 announcement. From browsing the X-Wing subreddit the last couple months it seemed like the balance of the game had been thrown off and they were desperately trying to catch up so there weren’t only a few lists being played.  I see this as a necessary revamp that will help revitalize the game as well as provide some new stock paint jobs to old ships.

They wanted Legion info. But from what I can tell the week is going to be full of announcements, so I don't understand why people's panties are in a bunch because of what they observed from Day 1.

Well yeah, we all want that Legion info. That’s why we frequent these boards. Got my kit ready to mainline the next news they put out.

That said, the internet is the internet and everyone loves to jump on the hate train. Hopefully we’ll see some news soon. Hoping for Kallus and Scout Troopers.

Pfft, Star Wars Galaxies.

We were straight lied to multiple times.

"Hey, Amazon has this Galaxies "New Game Experience" box, what's up with that?"

SOE: "Oh that's not a real thing, someone put up a product that was abandoned."

1 Month Later......

I wouldn't be surprised if the week is full of announcements, but I haven't seen anything to indicate that. It is those kind of assumptions that lead people into thinking FFG has maliciously mislead them.

So far it's a week full of X-wing 2.0

Observation on this from someone who has worked in PR, Mass Media/Broadcasting, and Advertising for 20+ years

FFG clearly lacks a coherent Public Relations strategy or anyone who even knows how to execute one.  I don't know if I would go so far as this statement does, but when it comes to community expectation management on the part of FFG, they fail often and hard.

Maybe they did have to word it vague to protect the X-wing "secret", (although I agree it was intentionally misleading) but is that a secret that is even worth protecting?  Say FFG says "big X-wing announcement at worlds" and there is a strong rumor circulating that X-wing 2.0 is going to be announced at Worlds.  You're talking to a largely captive and uber-passionate fanbase.  Who's gonna be pissed with that rumor?

Instead, the PR amateurs at FFG played coy.  Anyone in the PR department who spent more than five minutes on their own forums could have seen there was a lot of chatter and hype for what OTHER games outside of X-wing were going to get at the Report, and to see that as a PR professional and let that go is a disservice to those fanbases.  Legion gets a lot of love, but it's really **** to see Armada fans constantly **** on by FFG in favor of the Golden Boy in X-wing.

There's also some historical precedence at work, I think.  In the past, when FFG has announced events talking about "products" they've always talked about multiple games and properties.  It's kinda bush league to set that precedent, and then say "What?!  We talked about "products"...SIX products!  They were all for the same game....but still..."

What FFG does know is the audience they cater to, and they know we'll keep coming back again and again no matter how misleading or how poor they communicate with us.  I've seen a lot of people who say they play games other than X-wing say they took time off of work to watch the Hyperspace Report (because they love the games FFG makes and are passionate) and who felt shafted by the poor communications strategy of FFG.  From a purely professional standpoint, it's hard to disagree or say they don't have reason to feel shafted.  I know if I ran my PR operations in the past like FFG runs thiers currently, I'da been looking for a new job.

What I don't get, in this day and age, is why does everything that FFG does is so slow. Products take ages for them to do it. Aren't there like options for them to mass produce stuff that is closer than China? I know they're doing stuff over there because of costs, but wow, the turnaround is killer.

Well, the Chinese have gotten really really good at making things. We have forgotten how to manufacture many things, so making stuff in the US isn't always an option. People do manufacturing in China these days not only because of cost.

Some of the hate is definitely a little over the top.

It is ok to criticize FFG though, in a way that is constructive.  We are their consumers; as long as the feedback loop isn’t a one way street criticism will lead to a better product.  It definitely was not a great PR moment.

It’s actually a weird contrast to the “new” GW, whose community team is very actively and consistently engaged.  That would be a good model for FFG to follow.
