Ogre Cheiftan and Dominate?

  A big fight broke out at our last game. The Ogre killed the Giant and about 10 moves later was attacked by a stronger character and wanted to Domainate the Giant so he would be stronger in the Battle.

 

  I told him that he had to declare if it was Dominated after combat or it was considered a trophy that his move was bush league.

 

  My arguement, in which he was over ruled was that a trophy was something that you killed... like a deer head mounted on a wall. To Dominate means the Orge spared the Giants life and is forcing the Giant to be his follower. You can't dominate something that is dead.

 

   I think I'm right but my brother insisted I ask the experts.

You have to decide immediately after beating a Monster whether to dominate or take it as trophy. Once chosen, no flip-flopping.
