new factions?

Recommended Posts

Nope

It'd be needlessly limiting and bizarre, given the resistance has only 3 ships and two good pilots

Even then no r2d2 or Kanan means Poe and Rey are shadows of their actual selves

So, resistance would basically be a non-faction

FO would be fine, but empire would really miss QD

FO would be The ****, Empire would disappear faster than you can say "First Galactic Empire".

QD, Kylo, Backdraft are all really nice, Blackout and most of the FO pilots are also good. They definitely don't have everything, but what they have is great.

However, the Empire didn't get a proper imperial ship that was significant in a good while. Their recent aces are all low PS, and Soontir needs a PTL. In the current high PS meta, they wouldn't be able to compete at all.

The Reaper will probably shake things up a bit.

You know what I just realized

the ps 4 t-70 costs the same as the ps 4 silencer

and goddamn the non-Poe t-70 needs help

FTFY. Poe's doing fine as a wingman for Dash, Rey, Nym, or Miranda. Also seen Wedge/Poe/Fenn. He's not top tier, but he's not as bad off as the rest of the T-70s.

I agree - although the Red Squadron Veteran is not the best example to hold up; with the Analyst not having an Elite upgrade it's rather more equivalent to the Blue Squadron Novice, which despite a lower pilot skill is a 3 vs 4 matchup.

But yeah. Comparing the two really shows up the X-wing:

  • Same:
    • Price
    • Pilot Skill
    • Primary Weapon Value
    • Total Hit Points
    • Boost, Focus, Target Lock action bar
    • Talon Rolls
  • TIE Silencer
    • Green Speed 2 turns/Speed 3 banks/Speed 4-5 straights
    • White Speed 1 turns
    • Systems Slot (Probably Fire Control System)
  • T-70 X-wing
    • Astromech Slot (Probably Flight Assist Astromech or R2 Astromech)
    • Elite Slot
    • Option of Integrated Astromech

Poe and Jess Pava are both not bad; Poe as an Ace, Jess as a '3rd wingman' who is actually pretty dangerous until her squadmate goes down, and can pack M9-G8 or R2-D6/Selflessness without breaking the bank.

Are the first order and resistance NEW factions which need to be played exclusively from rebels and imperials?

No.

'First Order' is part of 'Imperial'.

However, there is also such a thing as 'Galactic Empire', which are essentially 'all the old stuff that's not First Order'.

Your squad is 'Imperial' (rather than 'Rebel') - but you can take either sub-faction's ships within an Imperial List. They may, however, have limits on how they interact:

Examples:

  • A Resistance Bomber is a Rebel ship. You could put one in a squad of old-style X-wings or T-70 X-wings, and both would be legal.
    • The Resistance Bomber's signature title. Crossfire Formation, specifies that it triggers when 'a friendly Resistance ship', which means that only a T-70 X-wing, Heroes of the Resistance YT-1300 or T-70 X-wing will trigger it. An older X-wing (like Luke Skywalker) won't.
  • Director Krennic is Imperial Only, but his ability requires you to select a friendly Galactic Empire (specifically) ship. So whilst he would be legal to place on an Upsilon Shuttle, he couldn't apply Optimised Prototype to a TIE/fo

Once we get the RZ-2 A-Wing, I’d be down for a Sequal event.

Yeah, no 2nd generation A-wing means your selection of resistance ships is limited to T-70s (not bad) certain YT-1300s (pretty good) and Resistance Bombers (situational, at best.)

At least they aren't as hamstrung as ST Scum (x4 Quadjumpers, anyone?)

EDIT, dammit, I should have said "QUAD-Jumpers."

Exactly. The Resistance A-Wing would mean both the Resistance and First Order had a four ship pool to work with, which might be enough for some interesting list variation.

I do regret that Scum is kind of high and dry in this kind of era play, but there are not a lot of ships to work with that fit. Hopefully more can be added through other media.
