What's with Han's overcoat?

Recommended Posts

I actually had to watch RotJ to find a scene where he is wearing that coat.  And while he does have it for one scene, his iconic look is just a vest and shirt.  Why make the mini with a coat on?  I really hope it can be modified and removed.

Haven't you noticed the pairings?

Veers + Snowtroopers
Han + Commandos

They fit the wave 'theme' they're coming out in. Veers was on Hoth with the STs and Han was on Endor with the rebels.

Leia + Fleet Troopers is kinda whaaat? But she wasn't fighting when they were onscreen, she graduated to grunt later on.

curious what their next batch will be. Leader and troop type.

The sculpt was actually originally done as Patrick Troughton's portrayal of the 2nd Doctor Who.

However, since the sculptor couldn't find an interested buyer, they managed to convince FFG that it was, in reality, a faithful rendition of Han Solo on Endor.

(this IS just a joke

Eh. Han's standard shirt and vest is understandable when he is aboard the Falcon.

But on the battle field it's not exactly ground war attire.

I just hunted down a screen grab of the scene, and you can see the pattern is mottled - so it's most likely an attempt at wearing some kind of camo over his usual attire.

Han-Solo-06.jpg

I also now notice that the box at does try to emulate this (previously thought it was just shadows).

So, quite looking forward to seeing people replicate this on the actual mini (rather than the mono-tone of the mini in the article).

I agree, but he wears the coat when they land then ditches it almost immediately.  So even as the leader of the commandos he should only be in his iconic vest and shirt.

I think they wanted him to look different from the model in IA. Luke is the same since he is in his empire clothes and his 2 sculpts in IA is from hope and jedi. Same with Leia as well.

Oh great, so the only company to do it was Wizards of the Coast, and bendy poorly painted plastic from the worst release wave theyvl did.   (The first wave if WotC minis were pretty good)

But come on, lets get a good sculpt of this.

The first few sets were good, all of the starters and boxed sets and map pack minis were good, The Force Unleashed was well done, The Clone Wars was good. From my experience the mini packs (Rebels & Imperials if I remember right) was extremely well done. The rest tended to be more of a luck of the draw for just how good they were.

I loved everything about that game. I played it up until about a year ago until the tournament scene ran the playerbase off.

I've been playing it off and on myself. Only major issue was the prices skyrocketing for any of the characters I could have used, tended to play a republic commando setup.

Doesn't he wear the coat until they get captured by the Ewoks?

Yeah, he does.  But that is only 2 scenes.  They land and he puts it on (Luke and Leia wear their camo in the shuttle, Han doesn't).  As soon as they land they encounter the scouts, Han alerts them, they speed off, Luke and Leia chase.  When we return to Han, Chewie and the droids, they get captured by the ewoks. That is the last we ever see of the coat.  Total time Han wears the coat is roughly 7 minutes of screen time.. in a 2 hour and 15 minute movie.  .. yes, I am bored at work and decided to actually check all this haha.

Thanks. I hadn't seen it for awhile. So the coat doesn't get a lot of screen time, but its canonically what he wears during that operation, and he wears it for the purpose of camouflage. It makes sense to me that  the model portraying Han  during that operation (which comes with the low Profile Keyword, clearly representing that camouflage) would wear the coat.

Fair enough.  I guess I am also a little resentful that it is assumes Han is on Endor.  The coat may look 'right' in the midst of the commandos or green camo troopers.  But in a desert setting where a lot of games seem to be played (because desert rocks, Tatoine houses and such as REALLY easy terrain) it looks odd to me.  :)

I can see that. I plan to paint mine to match my troops, who are all wearing blue coats. I think it will probably just look like Han threw on a coat (as he does in Empire).

That's because overcoats tend to get charred when being roasted over an open flame.

And regardless of what our moms thought, you burn a grilled cheese sandwich, you can't just scrape off the burnt part and not still taste it...
