Interestingly some of the art seems to have been updated (Leoric, Sorcerers). There is also a new scout hero called "... Wraithstalker".

Were the Sorcerers new? Don't have the cards with me, but it looks similar.

Landrec the Wise, though. I like that blue robe.

Also, Ashrian and Krutzbeck on the front cover. ūüĎć

I don't see Leoric here, just Landrec the Wise. Sorcerer art appears to be mostly unchanged.

Not big news to me.. but perhaps there is a tiny glimmer of hope that art being made for Landrec means we might get another Heroes and Monsters collection..

Oh, you are correct. I was thinking it was leoric from the cover (because of the blue robe), but it is indeed Landrec. Perhaps what I saw as art changes are simply the arts from other games (The Runebound 3rd edition Mountain Giant comes to mind).

I fear there won't be another H&M collection just because of the art existing. The portraits of Mad Carthos, Varikas the Dead, Brother Glyr and Red Scorpion have been in RtL for a long time, but nothing ever materialized :(

I'm excited about the announcement of Heroes of Terrinoth, not just because it looks like it'll be a good game (based on my experience of Warhammer Quest: ACG), but because it greatly increases the likelihood of us seeing Descent products in the not too distant future. In fact based on this, and little more than a hunch, I fully expect to be hearing an announcement about Descent 3rd Edition during FFG's In Flight Report at this year's Gen Con.

Descent First Edition launched in 2005, seven years later, in 2012, Descent 2nd Edition was released and here we are six years on from that. The last expansion for 1st Edition, Seas of Blood, came out in 2009. The last physical expansion for 2nd Edition, Chains that Rust, in 2016... Just on the sheer patternability of it all (that's a word I just made up) 3rd Edition should be released with fanfare in early 2019.

Now I'm curious to know what changes they're going to be making. A fully integrated app is a given but what else are they going to do to transform the slightly aging 2nd Edition ruleset into a Gloomhaven/any-other-modern-fantasy-dungeon-crawler-type-game beater?

It's time to knock GH and all the other young pretenders off their perches!

But... but... muh mage and healer classes.

I think all that can be said about the future of Descent *2nd ed* has been said, but I'm excited about Terrinoth stuff for the same reason.

Yeah, I realize it's quite a bit off topic, sorry for that. But to be realistic, the forums aren't really that active since there isn't much to discuss since support for D2 was essentially dropped.

I'm just happy to see that the Terrinoth universe seems to be doing fine at least, even if it's not directly Descent related.

But who knows, at least some of the newly introduced Terrinoth content will surely end up in D3E at some point in the future.

I'm becoming more convinced than ever that good thing or bad thing we may not get any more Descent (other than RTL releases) until edition three - realistically it just seems dead for too long now FFG 'new stuff' wise, unless there's something in time for the festive season, but I'm warming a bit to the idea of a third edition- maybe it will improve all the minis it has (while many of the 2e minis are awesome, some earlier and lesser D2e minis were a bit lacking quality wise, others were top quality) and bring some other tweaks and improvements such as the hybrid classes being in the game from the off, and perhaps with the work done for Realms of Terrinoth I'm wondering if they'll match it more to have a bit of the flavour of each species/area referenced in that so as to give a bit of each flavour of the lore of Terrinoth/Mennara. I'm still wondering if they'll make it Runewars Miniatures mini scale compatible with the way they're doing those figures (including the fact if unbased they're not too different to Descent minis), we shall see.

Perhaps we shouldn't bemoan the hiatus in Descent- maybe something really awesome's on the way (everything Terrinoth-wise has been visually impressive of late, maybe we are getting an even better Descent soon...)

And Descent 1 was 2005 / Descent 2 was 2012 - a seven year gap, and it's seven years since 2e in 2019.... Not that any 'same gap' logic follows, Runebound was 2004, 2005 and 2015!

(TER01) So Terrinoth is a thing now :) The teasing continues. But there's plenty of Terrinoth stuff to (pun intended) play with in the mean time. And I LOVE the sound of a co-op card game. looking at the cards close up it seems there are some neat ideas and touches thematically in there, especially with the locations and actions. And one or two new characters if Axle's new (on which note is Lord Vorun'thul  (RWM) new? Even I'm losing track of the Mennaran cast of characters! Really need to sort my reference list for Genesys!)

Q3 of 2018 - wonder if there will be a Mennara biggie for the Christmas gift buying season (Q4) for one or more of the games?

Just more speculation I know but without that elusive crystal ball it's impossible not to keep speculating, the itch remains in need of frequent scratching. You just want that announcement that stops the uncertainty over what actually is next for Descent, "we got stuff" doesn't really cut it :)

Now this sounds interesting: https://www.fantasyflightgames.com/en/news/2018/6/6/heroes-of-terrinoth/

A shame that this doesn't include miniatures, otherwise they could have included the missing Descent 1E hero sheets as a bonus.

This kind of game doesn't need or suit minis.

But just as I have to find any excuse to keep repeating this in the hopes FFG read it, if you ARE working on Descent 3

Please bring all the minis from 1 and 2 to it, it seems 2 will never get the many missing characters from 1 ( a lot if you count missing- and very awesome- lieutenants and things like Sea of Blood having many characters such as Captain Bones, Soriss, The Kraken, Sweetheart, The Void.......... that never made it to 2, FFG have a history of forgetting key characters of games when they remake them, this seems illogical as surely people who never got round to buying them or are saving up for them might still buy them if they carry over to new editions. Fangeeks like me sometimes even buy them again! Why make great expansions then abandon them with new versions? Seems kinda like remaking chess 'but we'll leave out the rooks and queen, nobody will want them now, and we won't include any pawns, we'll save them for an add-on (that never happens)' to me.

I agree with those who speculate that we will not see any more D2 content.

I can only pray that a D3 will KEEP the overlord, and not replace it with an app. In fact, I will not buy it if I can't humiliate my friends. :)

To be honest I personally don't consider it cheap. I really like the recognition value of the artworks.

I like it when a card game is consistent. When dragonlance back in the day recycled their best art and then added to it with subpar work that really bugged me. I don't mind at all if they use art more than once, so long as it matches. That said I'm not the biggest fan of the 2e art, it's a big step down compared to 1e or some of the art showing up in realms.

So basically Warhammer Quest: the card game revived. Not bad and a logical choice.

Is it? I'm not familiar with the warhammer card game but after having bought into larger names in this niche such as Pathfinder ACG, Dragonfire, LotRLCG I wonder what about this is different and interesting enough to buy into yet another big coop card game, especially given how unhappy I've been with how FFG's been about supporting my other recent purchases?

Yeah, that's my big hiccup when thinking about purchasing any more FFG stuff. It's not like things like Descent 2e have little-to-no following, or is a decade old or something.... I get the feeling it's just a poor existing-customer focus mindset from the management at FFG (and Asmodee, at this point). They put all their effort (it seems) into selling new products and little or no resources spent supporting what they've already sold to folks.

My 2cp worth

At least FFG own the rights, so it's not going to go the way of Netrunner or the GW tie-ins (I wonder if SW is a risk too now Disney have swallowed that up)- so luckily for us Descenters at least there's one threat to survival our game of choice doesn't suffer from- the rights kill.

So Descent is safe as long as FFG see its value.

The only concern on this is if they didn't keep the vault up to date and haven't done as much as they could tying the RTL app and new content together, will they improve on the product support/building up in future? FFG do have some weaknesses when it comes to keeping the love going for existing games, especially older ones, you are right on this point. So whatever they do I hope they do the future of Descent justice- if Descent 3 or Descent 2.5 doesn't elevate it back to the top of its game (pun intended) then FFG will have missed the goal.

Hi,

i am still full of hope for Descent 2ed expansions. As i wrote it somwhere else, i dont think FFG makes new artwork in Descent 2ed stile for other terrinoth games. (Runebound is not as popular as Descent and not all Hereos fit into Runewars MG)

And i think it takes that long, because FFG develops a background to Terrinoth and they dont want to contradict themselfs.

My third point is, that the next expansion might be like Mansions of Madness. You unlock a campagne when you buy the physical content and of course in the box is all the stuff you need for an overlord campagne

(yes, i believe in two campagns in the box). All that needs time, thats why we have to wait.

Waiting is no problem for me, i have all the expansions and H&M collections. Descent will not be boring for me for the next years (even without new content)

Greetings

It's cheap. If they wanted it to be consistent, they'd create new art based on the monsters etc from D2E, not wholesale copy paste the art from the monster cards from D2E. it reeks of corner cutting and quick job.

Well the vault isn't getting a lot of use as far as I can tell. I wish it was otherwise but given how it is I can't really blame then for not bothering.

Not just existing games, they've been releasing content for Mansions of Madness at a snails pace and I was quite underwhelmed by their support for Runewars and Dragonholt last gencon.

This is very much a chicken/egg and/or horse/cart catch-22 situation.

The Vault isn't getting much use because it has significant bugs, is missing significant content, receives no responses for support from FFG, etc. What user in their right mind wants to invest a lot of time working with the Vault given what I just stated?
