That’s the typical argument but I think it’s the wrong idea.

Kids role playing on the playground do not invent their own ninja turtles. They pick one they like and have all sorts of knowledge in how to play as them.

People do not buy starwars action figures and kit bash them into their own Star Wars OC. They buy characters they know and have stories they can build on.

From the dawn of story telling we have shared characters, creating new stories for them.

There is no lore to break.

I see both sides of the argument. Originally when I was investigating purchasing the game, not being able to play as Han or Luke seemed like a big deterrent, and kind of off putting to be honest. However once I bought the game, and started actually playing - you begin to understand and appreciate why they have these fictional characters instead. Progressing through the campaign and “building” your character is part of the fun. Plus, many of these characters and abilities have a great Star Wars feel to them. I also think the way they weave the known characters into the game as allies is brilliant.

My guess is that even if they wanted to have you play as the actual movie characters, the LucasArts intellectual property folks would have made it incredibly restrictive or possibly disallowed it completely. I remember a podcast with the IA designer, and he mentioned all of the things that they had to run by the LucasArts people. All story text, quotes, etc had to be approved to make sure everything “fit” within Star Wars universe so to speak. One funny thing that I happened to remember was the LucasArts folks told them you can’t have text saying there was an earthquake - because there is no earth. :)

The real question will be how many Death Troopers.

4 means 4 deployment cards, which I think will be the most likely. (In keeping with the Heavies from Twin Shadows.)

6 would be awesome, but very unlikely... (in keeping with the Wing Guards from Bespin)

i noticed the article was careful to not mention number of figures anywhere...

Small boxes have between twelve and 11 minis.

4 lothcats, two heroes, 5 or 6 deathtroopers. Leaning to 6 because they haven’t made a group of 5 for anything

Twin Shadows: 2 heroes, 4 Heavy Stormtroopers, 4 Tusken

Bespin: 2 heroes, 3 Ugnaughts, 6 Wing Guards

I'd say it's more like 10 to 11.

I understand what you are staying, but I fundamentally disagree.  First, we are not children.  Second, the whole reason people played West End Games Star Wars, or D&D, or Champions, or GURPs, or any other table top RPGs was to create their own characters.  And if I can't create my own characters I'd prefer heroes who don't have backstories so I can create my own for them.  The Universe of Star Wars is huge, why play in a tiny corner?

I'd hate to think there are only 3 Death Troopers, but based on ugnaughts is makes sense.  Though i can't see the need for 6 lothcats.  That's actually 6 more than I think there should be.  Why Lothcats and not Lothwolves?

The designers have said in interviews that the design cycle is about a year. The Loth-wolves just became to the fore in episodes aired a few months ago.

Ah. Good point, they did just seem to come around in season 4.  For some reason I thought they'd been around before that.

I don't remember if we have seen Loth-wolves before s4, but at least they have been too mystical to know enough to use in a design.

And even with what we know now, Loth-wolves have their own agendas and only help rebels when their needs co-incide, and I don't see them with imperials or mercenaries either. I think they could at most be some mission-specific figures.

I’m arguing for the inclusion of both things especially in games for a wide audience.

Using a known character is a great way to help new players young or old get into character quickly, yet most Licensed RPG’s deny players this ability and leave a most precious resource untapped.

So... Tress.

Is this the first Devaronian hero we've seen? Or are the spots on her forehead some sort of cybernetics?

I think it's cosmic.  She doesn't look like a devaronian.

I wonder if the Death Trooper skirmish card will be substantially different than the campaign card — as in, the skirmish card will have them as 6/8 point deployments of two. That makes a bit more sense to me... would mean less cardboard, and avoid some of the advantages of such a low cost, strong unit in high deployment skirmish forces. Fits with them including 4 Death Trooper models as well (6 would be awesome, but I just don't see it happening).

You would have to use the term "Tremor" or "[Name of Planet]-quake"

An interesting take on it for sure.

Well! Content!

Unfortunately this is a big "meh" since I don't follow Rebels, but hopefully this will draw in some new players.

Style tokens seem extremely unnecessary.

Might skip this expansion entirely except for Thrawn and the Death Troopers.
