Very Important Debate UNSC vs Galactic Empire

Depends on where you pull from on the timeline? I mean, if we're doing Empire vs UNSC then the assumption is that the Emperor is alive, since the Empire fell shortly after his death... so that would mean Vader is too... that's at least 2 spess wizardly folk.... and Vader was pretty well known for being on the front line...

It could be argued that Vader or the presence of a inquisitor (since they existed during the timeline of the Empire) would have an influence, just as it could be argued the presence of Cortana and chief could influence the fight.

Your original question was the "What if" scenario of the Empire vs the UNSC. If you wanted it to be post-Endor Empire (which is what it sounds like you're leaning towards) vs the UNSC, then at least say so. Otherwise I could just counter your "Vader, the Emperor, and Inquisitors are dead" statements with something like "The UNSC only has a handful of ships and only controls Earth", which was their status during the events of Halo 3.

As it stands, in a standard what if of Empire vs UNSC, all assets potential available assets should be considered from across their full timeline.

But I've been trying to compare just baseline ship and Starfighter capabilities first before even considering what Spartans and evil space wizards could do to effect the outcome.

Admittedly, I haven't even considered ground combat. Honestly that's probably more evenly matched.

Well, let's look at similarly rolled ships. The closest I could find is the Arquitens-class Light Cruiser at 325 meters long, and the Paris-class Heavy Frigate at 535 meters long.

Arquitens-class Light Cruiser:

Shielding: Energy Shields

Hull: Armored Hull (no thickness listed)

Armament: 4 Double-barrelled Turbolaser batteries, 4 Quad-Laser Turrets, Concussion Missile Batteries

Role: Escort, Light Warship

Paris-class Heavy Frigate:

Shielding: None

Hull: 2 meters Titanium-A Battleplate

Armament: 1 Magnetic Accelerator Cannon, 40 Archer Missile Pods (30 missiles per pod), 12 M910 Point-Defense Guns

Role: Escort, Atmospheric Fire-Support

A battle between these two ships would most likely come down to how well the MAC works against Star Wars shields. If the MAC can take down the shields in one shot, I think the Paris-class would win in a fight. However, if the MAC cannot take down the shields in one shot, the odds swing in the favor of the Arq, as the lack of shielding would mean the Arq would land more damaging hits faster.

Based on how well "slug throwers" work on shields and lightsabers I'd say a MAC  would punch a hole right through an Arquittens class.

Ballistics and physical projectiles seem to be this universes weakness. Consider how well Star Destroyers fair against common asteroids even... shields don't seem to help much against non-plasmic impacts.

I would think that unsc ships would be rediculously durable(no sheilds and all that) seeing how they held up against the covenant. Yes they blew up in the star ship equivalent of a redshirt death frequently. But the likes of the pillar of atum were shown to take a **** of a beating (halcyon class?) I think the problem here with this thought expirement. Is that the ships in both of these are armored with 'plot armor' they win, and blow up in spectacular fasion where the plot demands it. Depending on where you look in cannon they either have the best ship made of forged awesome, or there made of wet toilet paper machie. So locking down the examples of who were using in the square off is rather important.

Another thing is that I believe Halo ships have a longer effective weapons range and while I still want the UNSC to upgrade to energy weapons already MACs do have the advantage of not losing damage output with range as fast as turbolasers do, if they lose damage output at any range.

Yup they do, just at the end  of your range ruler.
