Very Important Debate UNSC vs Galactic Empire

Recommended Posts

Post Human/Covenant War Humans can stand a chance against Canon Empire. But the big thing is if they are attacking the Galaxy Far Far Away or the Milky way. Hyperspace travel would be tough since the galaxy doesn't have established hyperspace lanes.

I think we can safely say the UNSC in a 1 to 1 fight.

While their tech is a little more primitive, if we look at the similarities between the Imperial Navy and the Covenant Armada... and the technologies they shared (shields, plasma weapons, cloaking tech), I can see enough similarities to say the UNSC stand a solid chance.

Really, like stated earlier, it may have a lot to do with the timeline. Pre-destruction of reach<---->post-covenant war they'd likely do okay, but that period in the middle they were close to being wiped out.

Of course, the Spartans would be the deciding point too. Imperial troops wear plastic armor and are not slug resistant at all. whereas Spartan II+ armor is clearly shown surviving an immense amount of plasma fire. I would venture a single Spartan could over run an entire ISD if they boarded it.

Of course, I think in terms of sheer numbers, if it wasn't 1v1, the Empire would win. some 25,000 ISDs could punch a hole through most things.

I think there's a YouTuber that does a lot of Halo vs Star Wars ship battles, among other "what if" battle scenarios. Might be worth looking for that, as they might have a similar scenario on their channel already with all the info you'd need.

In my opinion, if we had the Empire and UNSC at the height of their canon power (which I think would be the Dark Times for the Empire and the pre-Human-Covenant war for the UNSC), I feel that the Empire has an advantage. Star Destroyer weaponry seems similar to Covenant weaponry and that always seemed to wreak havoc on UNSC ships.

But that's just based on opinions. I'd have to look up more facts on the capabilities of each ship later, as right now I can only go with what I think I remember.

pre-Human-Covenant war for the UNSC

Eh I don't know about this though. The Spartan 4s were wide spread 4 years after the human-covenant war and the UNSC "infinity" was able to ram right through the covenant battlecruiser which is some 100 meters bigger than the ISD. I would say post human-covenant war is the height of the UNSC's power.

Though, to be fair even if we're going both groups at the peak of their power, the results are still the same. If it's not 1 to 1 the Empire wins.

Yeah, even as I posted I thought about how the UNSC has been represented in the newer games and material. They come off as even more powerful than they were before the war.

Humanity sure rebounded from near-extinction quick, didn't it?

I'm not a fan of the newer games and material have made the UNSC out to be a galactic superpower just a few years after the war's end. At least the Covenant remnants and species that made up that former empire come across as broken and defeated, struggling with what they have left. But the UNSC is like "Nah fam, we good. Look at all the new toys we made with all the resources we supposedly didn't have."

But that's ultimately irrelevant to the discussion. The newer UNSC ships do appear to have the strength to back them up against Imperial ships. Although I think I'd still give the win to the Empire, as the Infinity is a bit more of an outlier in ship strength for the UNSC, rather than the norm.

Agreed. I never understood why they made H4 only a few years after H3.... I mean, I know the lore on AIs was decided BEFORE that game, so they needed it to happen then in order to have Cortana in it, but it's not like they couldn't have made it like 20 years and just found a way to revive her... since that's the route they went any way...

meh.... H5 was a let down...

I just wish they'd make ODST2. I'd play the **** out of that.

Anyways, in terms of the lore I think the covenant was hit so hard because the brutes were slaughtering elites and then their entire holy city got turned to flood food. Whereas humanity still had a few systems still well populated... The UNSc infinity was supposedly in the works during H3... but who knows.

Also in that bit with the Inifinity ramming a covie ship, if i remember correctly it was a CRS class, a much smaller version of the larger CCS class battle cruiser.

Also most to all of the UNSC weaponry is ballistic, which is typically where sw shields are a let down.

EDIT: Several CRS-class cruiser were present during the Requiem campaign in February 2558. Many provided escort for an RCS-class armored cruiser that was destroyed immediately after Infinity's emergence from slipspace.

RCS were tough cruisers more Armored than a CCS. CRS were pretty small.

I don't think the UNSC has the numbers to compare to the Galactic Empire. The UNSC controlled Earth, several "fortress" worlds (like Reach), and some colony worlds. But the exact numbers of what they controlled are a bit sketchy. Meanwhile, the Empire had governmental and military control over most of its galaxy (albeit not for very long). The UNSC never seemed like had that massive a presence in the galaxy.

But if we look at it as just a fight between matching fleet sizes, it might all come down to how effective the MAC and ballistic weapons are against the shields of Star Destroyers.

I will say that the UNSC probably has the fighter advantage. Ballistics would probably rip through a TIE fighter just as easily as lasers would and both Sabre and Broadsword fighters had shielding. I think that's the UNSC's biggest advantage in the fight.

This. Exactly this.
