The Captn's misadventures in minitures, Boba Fett awaiting bounty.

Recommended Posts

So I got asked to help a good friend of mine on his legion of troops.  I had never bothered with doing figures when I was building automotive models all the time.  I knew some basics of washing, dry brush, thinning, and other simpler stuff. I found a few reference pics and some imagination.  This is my first squad of troopers and vader. Still need bases done but neon squad is done.

I need to get better pics this weekend. Since his are almost done I bought a core set and do my own army up. I've got everything in primer so far.

Started rebel squad first out of my core set. Seal team leroy's leader is 90% done so far. Wasn't totally sure on the color combo but it's gonna work out it looks like. Still some minor drybrushing to be done on the weapon and eltrobinoculars. Hooe to get the rest done this week.

Seal team Leroy leader.

I like the choices of color for the stormtroopers.  Bold, for sure and it looks like you did a good job with it.

The colors on the rebel are way more muted which is also cool.

For both sets, I’m seeing a lot of paint texture which generally means you could probably use to thin your paints a bit more.  Probably doesn’t matter a whole lot since you won’t notice while playing the game, but give it a try and see what happens.

I'll give it a shot.  Might try a medium instead of the few drops of plain water I've been using. The storm troopers was loosely base off if some clone troopers and I ran with it.  I didn't think he would go with my joke of doing a hot pink squad, I was wrong.  He did a squad in purple as well.  I'm not entirely sold on my color choice for my rebel squad. Next squad will be different.

Did my first piece of terrian for the game.  3d print one of the guys did while setting up his printer. It's not perfect but after a few coats of high build primer we had a good base to start.  Spent about an hour on it and a few small details I'll do later.

Since I'm wanting to actually play the game with my own figures I went ahead and got them on bases. Arms are loose and in the beginng stages of being swapped.  Can't leave anything well enough alone.

Tk421is at his post.

Veers won't make a 3rd mistake in vaders eyes.

I've learned that certain primers suck for these figures after the first core set I primed.  Since I've got along ways to go on painting I'll learn and improve.  The army currently and how much painting left.  I got 1 of the at-rt in paint just have the driver to match the squad.

Got to spend a hour on these tonight after work.  Still have the front armor to do on the one.  It was fun watching all the details pop with various shades on the drybrush. Need more time and less work now days.  Since my kid want to paint some minis I'm gonna let him paint the second set of barricades.  Once he does those I might let him do a set of movement templates.  He is 6 and wants to do everything I do.  I taught him how to play xwing legion can't be much harder can it?

Started on the stormtrooper luke I converted.  Still a good bit to go but the face is coming along.  Did a squad of storm troopers in red.  Vader needed his personal unit.

What kind of red is that?

Started painting on this the other night. Might get to work on it some more tonight.

Decided it was time to play a game even if it isn't 100% painted. Made up some quick terrian and some more permanent stuff with trees and rocks. The box building will be done in plastic or 3d printed  versions before long.

Still a ton of painting to do. Pick away at it little at a time until it's done. Rebels have been the hardest thing for me to color scheme and not sure why.

Spent some time while it was nice out yesterday and put down base colors on 4 squads.  Set of shadow troopers set of plain white wrappers and vaders guard snow troopers and normal set of snows.

The 501st squad is almost done.  One more pass with black and bases left.

Felt I didn't have enough rust.  So this weekend I added more. End result is legs match the body.  Sorry about work bench condition it's a busy time of year being in the middle of summer race season. Rusting stuff is a good.  I used some inspiration from sorastro to even attempt the weathering and it's simple and mistakes don't matter for the most part.

Atst done minus magnets in weapons.Atst done minus magnets in weapons.

Done a bunch of basing as well this weekend. Got all my speeders done.

That was the right call - I was going to say after your Monday picture, that the legs looked disparate from the body because of a lack of weathering - but didn't want to to appear critical. Looks much more cohesive now...

That being said, Veers will want to have a word with the crew about their lax maintenance protocols.

(oh - and your 'legs match the body' phrase instantly put me in mind of the the 'carpet matching the drapes' euphemism)
