Cornwolf 28 Posted April 4, 2018 Not bad for my first pain, I think I put the black on a little think to start so it's not as smooth as I like. There is still some work to do on it, touching up and trying to get the red to pop on the saber. A few mistakes here and there but my first ever paint and a learning curve. 5 Jukey, oddeye, BigBadAndy and 2 others reacted to this
VAYASAN 850 Posted April 4, 2018 Good job. Which red did you use? Dont mix red/white together, that = pink. A lighter red if you have one, then even a very thin white line along the saber would look good but hard to pull off thin enough.
Cornwolf 28 Posted April 4, 2018 Not sure which it is if I am honest, I think it's because I made the mistake of giving the saber a black base coat.

It wouldnt be hard to re do. A white recoat on the saber wouldnt be hard to do - make sure its covered completely. Use very thin paint(mix with a little water) and if required, use 2 coats. From a white base, your RED should show much more vibrantly imo. Edited April 4, 2018 by VAYASAN 1 Alrik2438 reacted to this

Red is one of those colors that you'd think would cover a base coat pretty easily but it's actually difficult to get it to pop if you're using it on top of a dark primer. 1 RickyBobby17b reacted to this

Cornwolf 28 Posted April 5, 2018 I didn't manage to take a picture last night however I have managed to make the saber pop more now. I watered down a little white and did a couple of coats of that over the black and then a couple of coats of the red, again watered down a touch but it seems to have gone on well and you can see it is red now. Cornwolf 28 Posted May 2, 2018 I want to give them a sandy base if anyone has any tips.
Fort Defender 121 Posted May 2, 2018 For mine, I just thinned out my paint and painted the bases tan so you could still see the original texture. For more, Hobby Lobby has bags of fake sand and mats to use. BigBadAndy 640 Posted May 3, 2018 A sandy base is pretty easy. Elmer’s glue, add sand, tap off excess. Let it thoroughly dry then coat with 50/50 glue and water. If it isn’t dry yet too much sand will float.
Cornwolf 28 Posted May 4, 2018 Awesome thanks, guys. I will have a play around and report back. I started my AT-RT last night and gone for a grey green colour for a little difference
