Fantasy Flight Talisman Vs. Games Workshop Talisman

Recommended Posts

I was wondering if anyone could shed some light on the differences between the two versions of the game.  I'm sure they are similar but how much are they alike?  I also want to know if FF version comes with more gaming miniatures than the GW version.

 Well, frankly I would be very disapointed if anyone says that the Games Workshop edition of Talisman is better than Fantasy Flight Games Revised 4th Edition. There is a reason it's called Revised 4th Edision.

The main differences are that;

a )Character sheats are quite small, slightly bigger than a card from an ordinary card stock used to play card games.

b) Has fewer adventure cards than the FFG's

c) For some reason GW's edition has changed the tradition of using so called hats for strength, craft and life markers. GW's 4th edition now uses 3*3 mm squares that you need to lift up close to even see that number X (X being 1,2,3 or 4 life/strength/craft value) , compared to hats which represents 1 or 5.

d) I would say that FFG Talisman has more characters, especially due to the number of expansion sets. Note, with the GW's edition you cannot expand it with FFG's since the layout of cards, character sheats are different. FFG has, however, made an addition set which makes GW's version compatable with FFG's

Other than that the gameboard itself is the same. Not sure about the rules though, but I think they might be more balanced in FFG's version of the game.

That should mainly be it.

Hope this helps.

There were changes made to the board, and of course there was the introduction of Fate.

These are explained in two articles on the FFG site -

The Vagaries of Fate

Location, Location, Location

The main advantage of getting hold of the Revised 4th Edition of Talisman from FFG is that it already has a host of expansions to choose from and more will be coming!!

Sounds like FFG is the one to stick with.  Thanks for the info.  I really like the old GW games like Advanced hero quest and Talisman to mention a few.  But it seems that FF is taking content from the GW company and either expanding on old games like Talisman or Warhammer fantasy role play, or making new ones which totally rock like Dark heresy etc. etc.  I guess what I'm trying to say is I'm glad GW had the sense to allow another company to start making games based on the warhammer and WH 40k universe.

on a side note: I watched a video review on Descent: journey in the dark.  And I had a flash back of Advanced Hero Quest.  So yet another interesting game has come from FFgames.  I'm really starting to like these guys.
