Stop with "scum and villainy" faction

Recommended Posts

I personally don't really want a Scum and Villainy faction, or a Mandalorian faction, or a Ewok faction, or even a Clone faction.  The Galactic Civil War is between the Rebels and the Empire.  I am sorry if you think a game needs more than two factions, but that isn't that game.

HOWEVER, these are the forums where people can talk about whatever they care about (at least relating to Legion) and I see no problem whatsoever with someone expressing an opinion that differs from my own.  So I have to disagree with the OP.

@Derpzilla88 I’ve heard rumors that the Mouse is discouraging his license holders from releasing prequel centric material. I hope this changes. While the acting was often wooden and there were certainly cornball elements the Prequels had some great vehicles and character designs.

I've heard that too, though I have no idea if the licensing thing has any truth to it. FFG was able to make Destiny with plenty of prequel stuff in it, so I don't know what (if anything) keeps them from bringing it into their other games or releasing a new game that includes prequel content.

Legion lends itself best to the prequel factions than X-Wing or even Armada given that the movies and Clone Wars show fleshed out a ton of infantry and vehicle units to be used for combat. More than enough to keep them even with the Empire and Rebels as stand-alone factions.

Why are you sorry? There's nothing wrong with wanting additional factions.

Legion doesn't need additional factions, sure. But when it's a game of ground combat in the Star Wars universe, it could be made so much more interesting and fun for a larger group of players if there were even just a few more options than only Rebels and Imperials.

Aren't you agreeing with the OP by not wanting factions beyond Imperials and Rebels? I'm getting mixed messages here. ;)

from a long term marketing perspective it would be ideal for ffg to release more factions. How many of each unit type can we really get from galactic civil war era with just imp vs rebels? Everyone here wants legion to thrive, become popular and succeed. I would love to still be fielding my imperial stormtroopers and atst 10 years from now, but to keep the game fresh and draw more players ffg should branch out a bit imo and create a few more factions. A simple factor that draws people into 40k is its vast lore, gaming history and many factions to choose from. I just can't see ffg limiting legion to only 2 factions.. Time will tell I guess.

The issue with fleshing out all the GCW stuff before going into other factions or timelines is that will leave the game at a point where all the new stuff being released is non-GCW cannon. So they either abandon the rebel and imperial factions or release something obscure.

I would rather they incorporate multiple factions early and release recognized stuff for the GCW factions concurrently but slower than front load all the GCW stuff.

I'm selfish, I'm playing Imperial and want a fleshed out two factions before I want to see a new faction that I may or may not play. And yes I believe they will have more factions down the road. I don't see FFG releasing something every month so as I've said before I expect new factions next year at the earliest.

However, everyone should say what they want or don't want so FFG has a feel for what the players want.

In FFG's case at least, Destiny would suggest that this isn't true. There's been prequel content in almost every wave if not literally every wave. The preview article for the upcoming Destiny set confirms that it'll include Grevious and this will be the SECOND time he's been released as a character. The latest, currently available set has Jar Jar as a character, so... Yeah. :P

It's a slightly different scenario since there's already more Destiny cards out then there are likely to be Legion expansions that ever release. But it sure implies that Disney is not opposed to approving prequel content for license holders.

To build upon @KalEl814's comment, Rebels has a WHOLE lot of stuff from the Clone Wars cartoon for me to believe that is the case anymore.... A whole mess of characters and some equipment. Heck, one episode even has a whole bunch of CIS droids in it. Marvel's done a few canon comic series focusing on specific Jedi during the Clone Wars (notably Mace Windu). So I think that rumor needs to be taken with a huge grain of salt these days. Some of that may be wishful thinking on the part of those who did not like the prequel movies.

Well, I made a deal with myself to only start with Legion if they release a scum faction. Lots of cool characters that will be fun to paint. So that being said, I'm not sure if I want a scum faction in Legion either ;-)

However, "Scum and Villainy" does not make sense as an army. More often than not the various players were rivals, not allies. So I hope they don't create armies that way. Boba Fett is not a military commander, he is a bounty hunter. If anything I'd rather he be an expensive specialist unit that can be hired by any faction.

Why not? There are a lot of cases where bounty hunters work together, even with some form of military behind them. I can easily see Cad Bane or Hondo with a bunch of Weequay pirates. Jabba also had a small army behind him. Scum have more vehicle variety than rebels, and probably even empire for the legion scale.

Multiple factions is the only way Legion is going to live more than 1-2 years.

Star Wars have been alive for 30 years. If the game is good, it doesn't need more than 2 factions.

How many Star Wars products have died over those 30 years before their creators intended them to? What you say has nothing to do with the longevity of Legion.

Legion releases in a crowded market, cannibalizing other games of FFG and others. In comparison to X-Wing and Armada, Legion has a lot MUCH better established competitors than those games had, comes on the back of a somewhat muted reception of RuneWars (which, coincidentially, has since stagnated and no new content being announced), and to top it off belongs to a genre for which faction diversity has always been a big thing.

Legion will bring new factions because it has to, because 2 years from now, nobody cares about painting or buying a single Stormtrooper anymore, not to mention the distinct lack of interesting designs in the rebel forces of the GCW.

The smartest move would be Separatists and Clones soon, followed by First Order/Resistance when movie 3 hits.

We still haven't seen sufficient Resistance ground forces in ANY media for a full fledged army. So unless the last movie/comics/<insert other media here> features a bunch more ground units I wouldn't count on the Resistance being anything more than just the Rebellion with a different Commander. The only non-infantry unit we have seen is the Salt Skimmer, which is even stated to be from the GCW. Clone Wars has been fleshed out more between Galactic Battlegrounds and the Clone Wars cartoon.

Star Wars: Resistance has been trademarked.

So some resistance specific stuff could happen...

Or the name is trademarked because Disney is Disney, or a potential video game, reference book, board game, etc etc.

In TLJ, which occurs right after TFA, it was stated there was 300-400 people in the Resistance on the Raddus. Then there is a handful on the Falcon at the end of the movie. Resistance would make for a lowsy faction.

something like 60 make planetfall on Crait and only 20 or so make it on the Falcon at the end.  They do state that Snap, Inferno squad, Jas, and some other people are out trying to gather the remnants of the New Republic so the last movie could have a larger component of ground troopers.

I think alot of people would complain if they're constantly facing off against the same 4 EU units that are entirely overpowered and have a faction all of their own.

That's X-Wings problem, no need to bring it here.

Are you alleging that the least competitive faction in X-wing is making things tough on the Rebels and Empire?  #SayWhat

I want the Ubese Clan!!!

this is a skirmish game that borrows from the galactic civil war era. It's no linear to the movies.

I wasn't aware that we were follow some kind of campaign or must stick to the story line.
