Painting rebels

Recommended Posts

I have seen all the current videos on painting the troops and vehicles but what I want to know is how YOU will be painting your rebs?
what paint schemes, what primer, any special techniques?

I'll be using my Vallejo surface primer to prime like I always do, probably through an airbrush rather than brushed on,  especially as I just bought the airbrush so should start getting my money's worth out of it. :P

As for paint scheme, I am probably going to paint them using a mixture of colours found in various World War 2 uniforms, however probably at least slightly mismatched. I definitely want to try painting some of the German camouflage patterns for the odd pair of paints/jacket.

Painting guide I will be referencing can be found here for anyone interested.

I am leaning for a more british look, especially once I paint the air speeder...Green and brown top with grey and tan underside ala the Spitfire

I like it!

Ive been trying to figure out how the AT-RT is going to look. If it’ll be more OD like a Sherman or how it’ll incorporate the ww2 vibe. I suppose my t47 would probably be best patterned off the p40.

My Imperials will be using primarily German ww2 colors outside of the obvious white armor. Speeder bike troops will have German greens in their armor (picture the kashyyyk clones of ep3), the bikes themselves will be shades of German browns from the panzer pallette. Veers is getting a German uniform color (that greenish gray).

I really hope the tank from Rogue One becomes a new heavy because that is going to get the full panzer treatment from me!

Since it is Clone wars era gear, I think perhaps try for WW1 tank colour of more brown than OD.

If you own an air brush, I recommend Vallejo Surface primers.....that is all I use now. More control and cheaper.

With cans there is no control and you waste more. Also less detail loss. Once you go this route you will never look back.

You can find good deals on evilbay with all three white, back and grey. Get the largest bottles you can get.

I use Vallejo surface primer as a paint on primer for figures all the time...it's great.
I plan to spray paint the vehicles with Walmart camo paint (base will be the dark brown from that range). Not sure if I will try a camo scheme on the AT-RT yet but it would make my force look more consistent on the table.

Not sure on my primer technique if I’ll go for the black and white zenithal or what.

For painting, I’m going with American army world war 2 colors for the standard core set troopers and AT-RT driver.

I have an entire army in this theme for Warmachine.  This is a great paint set for WW2 US theme painting:

There's also a Sherman OD green primer.

@Hidatom What, not pink?

:D

I think I might also try a counter-shade scheme for the T47, along with attempting to stencil the Phoenix Squadron symbol somewhere on it.

during my recent research into spitfire camo schemes I found out this was 100% real.  great camo for their intended role of flying early dawn and evening recons.

I kinda like this scheme as a "generic" scheme and it shouldn't be too hard to paint ~25-30 troopers in this scheme (I will still give a few some different color vests and/or gloves)
Waagh flesh for the green (drybrushed with a much lighter green for clothing and inked green for helmet) Ogryn Camo for gloves, gaters and hats and dark grey (drybrushed up to a  tan /grey) for the vest. Dark leather brown drybrushed up to leather brown for the gear and back pack.  4 colors not counting the skin and hair.

The more I think about it, the more I want to kitbash multiple unique Duros into one squad. Do some head swapping from at least 3 rebel units. Great way to give a squad a back story/ names. And I'd give that unit a unique paint scheme.

I'm leaning towards a combo of Army Painter Skeleton Bone, Chaos Red, and Commando Green.  Haven't quite sorted which colors will be primary vs accessory colors.  Might change it up between models/squads as some others have thought about.

pretty certain that jacket is a perfect fit for Vallejo's "USA Olive Drab" maybe add a little blue or teal to it and give it a dark wash

On my screen the jacket looks much more blue then USA olive drab. Maybe Luftwaffe Uniform WWII 70.816 with a black/blue mixed wash over it?

Beasts of War did their rebels in a similar scheme. the helmet ring was the red part and the backpacks were the green...it's not a bad look, though the helmet really "Pops" which might not be what you are looking for

yeah with a black undercoat the USA OD comes out darker and greyer than it looks... give it a try., it's not at all like any other OD that I own
