Vaapad and Juyo are the same thing. They were virtually indistinguishable in the EU (Vaapad was a variation, like Djem So was to Shien), and in the current canon they are simple alternate names for Form VII.

Six of one half a dozen of the other.

I know!  That time Mark was playing the evil father ruling a dictatorial, expansionist empire trying to convince his son to abandon the path of good (that his wise, elderly mentor set him on) to join the side of evil?

Or in that same story he played hermetic baboon who guided a lost boy through a mystical world by making him chase a bug.

Really?  I didn't know he was the mystic monkey, too.  Huh.  The more you know!

So what’s missing from the combat skills? Brawl and Ranged Heavy. Seeker covers Ranged Heavy really well. Warden can Brawl, but it’s not dedicated to it. A completely dedicated Brawl character is really missing from the system, so there's my prediction, the third spec will be some blend of Martial Artist with some force talent coolness mixed in.

I SO hope this is what they've done. A non-lightsaber focused martial art would be very nice. Something that can make even simple weapons something to reckon with.

I just hope for a skill tree that allows for more survivability Guardian can't be the only party tank in combat.

"The best defense is a good offense!"
- Mel, the cook on Alice.

My general impression of Warrior as a career is that it's (to use D&D terminology) that focuses on being a "striker" and dishing out the damage before the bad guys  can attack you, where in contrast the Guardian is a "defender" and absorbing damage.  Granted, the Ataru Striker is probably the hardest hitting of the six Lightsaber Form specs thus far, but it's also a whole lot more fragile in comparison to the Warrior's specs.

After seeing a Shii-Cho Knight and Soresu Defender (with Protector spec for Circle of Defense) in combat against an Inquisitor, most of the damage was done by the Knight while the Defender pretty much tanked the Inquisitor's attacks.

I suspect the Vaapad spec will continue this trend of hitting incredibly hard (perhaps with a talent that grants full autofire in contrast to Shii-Cho's limited version offered by Sarlacc Sweep?), and the other two new specs will also have a focus on dishing out the pain, be it in terms of straight-out damage or status penalties to the bad guys.

Sages/Seers with Misdirect, Influence and Protect make surprisingly good party tanks °_^

We have a tanky Soresu Defender in the group, along with a Wookie and a couple of Trandoshans that are no slouches either. None of them have an ounce of diplomacy, stealth, or subtlety in their bodies though, so I'm having to tech up Misdirect as much as possible to give us half a chance of surviving an encounter without them just shooting first. I've managed to talk us through plenty of hairy situations, but inevitably someone goes rogue, and no amount of charm or coercion will help.

This is a stretch, but if all 3 are going to be combantants. How about a classic fantasy fighter. Something that benefits using shield and sword. Or perhaps a gladiator.

Sword and Board would be awesome! That would actually pair quite well with the potential Two Weapon spec. Shields being classified as a Weapon means you just need to word the talents correctly:

”When making an Attack with two weapons using either the Melee or Lightsaber Skill...”

That then allows for a few different talents; one that increases Defense, one that reduces the difficulty of a two weapon combat checks, one that adds Force dice and allows Force Pips to be spent to hit with the second weapon.

The tree could be left half Defense focused and right half offence focused

Heck, what if we get a tier 5 talent that allows a Shield to Parry Ranged attacks? It’s in Genesys, but would it be too good considering how hard it is to raise both Parry and Reflect to a decent level?

I would take absolutely anything that helps with reflect. I have a single rank of it, and I can get just one more. I fall like a wet paper bag to concentrated blaster fire. I already have a shield set aside in my inventory for the glorious day when I don't have to take the difficulty increase for going sword and board. I get it for two offensive weapons, but I feel like for offensive and defensive mix, the difficulty increase is rough. Even an upgrade feels harsh. A setback I could totally see, though, to show encumbrance of the shield up close.

Any one have any ideas as what the lightsaber crystals might be or do for the Warrior? We've had some pretty cool effects in the other books like in the seeker book with the Vaperline crystal.

“Spend Dark Pips to recover wounds equal to Pips spent, Spend Light Pips to recover Strain”

or something to do with Crits, perhaps allowing you to do something when you cause one, or recover Strain or something.

A crystal with Blast would be cool

HOLY TNT BATMAN, a Blast crystal sounds amazing! Better than anything I could have thought of. One swing and blow up a room.

Yeah... I however do not think, that as the Artisan / Racer / Shien Expert that he clearly seems to be, needs to be sneaky at all. Sentry kinda also suits him.  Who ever said, that Sentinel equals sneaky? But as I already pointed out, it is more for sport than anything to try and force characters like that into a system like this.

In other matters:
For the martial arts spec of the warrior I would somewhat expect Teräs Käsi to pop up.

Teras Kasi Master already exists in the game as it is covered by Martial Artist. The Wardens of the Sky were one of the few FS groups that were around and this influenced the Warden spec (isu

Someone mentioned earlier that the Warden is a social character, Id disagree, there are two clear tropes in it but it is first and foremost a force sensitive Brawler with a focus on debuffing.

The split is, for combat only talents you have Grapple, Precision Strike, Baleful Gaze, No Escape, Toughened and Overbalance . For social you have  Bad Cop and Intimidating , the rest of the talents either are generic or they can work for both social and combat (Fearsome, Scathing Tirade, Sense Advantage, Grit, Confidence).

Another reason I dont think there will be one is that Aggressor already touches a little on being a bit of a Brawl spec, with it's leaning on causing and benefiting from disorient.

Finally any FS character can get a lot of mileage out of the Enhance:Brawl ability (20 xp including gateway abilities). The only real thing that you cannot get with the martial artist is unarmed parry and to an extent Sense's combat commit effects have this covered and narratively could be explained to work similarly to unarmed parry.

Ultimately I dont see them having it, I know I woukd welcome it though.

The thing is that Warden doesn’t have a single talent completely dedicated to Brawl. It’s a Street tough, not a master of the art of unarmed combat.

This. Thematically Wardens are brawlers, but they will be using the Force to Enhance their hand-to-hand combat, rather than studying and honing any particular martial art.

Ahsoka on the cover?
Anakin would be so much more fitting. Or even Mace Windu.

Now Ahsoka is for sure the best marking choice they could make, because she might be the most beloved character of the whole franchise and RIGHTFULLY SO. Still, I am looking forward to the tree in this book which fits to her, because certainly neither Aggressor, Starfighter Ace, Shii-Cho nor Vaapad fit. Meanwhile all three original specs fit perfectly to Anakin. Now she still might have a warrior heart, but Sentinel and Councular fit as well, not only because she seems to use Shien, Jar'Kai and Aturu mix and makes quite the diplomat as well. Arbiter style ;-)

So if they have Ahsoka on the cover, I totally expect to seem something fitting into that direction in the book, which actually makes me happy, because that is something the warrior career was severely lacking. High expectations on this one which always leads to disappointment, especially with FFG. ;-)

It's a shame that you are a freelancer, because I totally would love sign a NDA and discuss with you at which points you screwed up.  :P
But as a freelancer you are not really in a position to make this happen. :P

Well, when the book comes out, you can be sure to tell me what I messed up! In the mean time, I'm sure I screwed the pooch on all my Dawn of Rebellion content, too, and that should be out very very soon! :P I look forward to your thoughts on both products.
