VermillionDe 70 Posted February 4, 2018 So I've seen this asked way back in the beginning but I thought I'd ask again. What's the popular opinion on including an extra player in a campaign? My group is a little odd that I have 5 people in it all interested in Arkham. I'd like to all be able to play in one campaign but I'm concerned about the scaling (which I know has been somewhat suspect at times). Has anyone successfully played a campaign with 5 players that can shed some light on what it looks like scaling wise?
Jobu 720 Posted February 4, 2018 Give it a try and let me know, I would be interested to know as well.
Turtlefan2082 112 Posted February 5, 2018 Boss battles and clue requirements can be hairy, but do able
Starbreaker1 75 Posted February 5, 2018 It should be fine, my "group" has done it several times, just be aware, if you plan to do Essex County Express, it will be much more difficult than normal with 5, just an FYI

We will give it a shot. My group is on to The King in Yellow now (though we've certainly had trouble with Essex before)
Duciris 1,347 Posted February 12, 2018 More than any other LCG, AH should be flexible with extra player(s). The purpose of the game is enjoyment, not competition. Even in "kitchen table" matches, it should be about playing the way you want to, not the way the side of the box mandates. With only a few expansions, the decks would be hard to construct. Now, I'd say its much more doable. I think the that, and balancing reasons, are why it's limited to 4 players. Also, more than 4 allow you to play all the classes. I'd expect balancing issues - too powerful bosses, too minimal clue restrictions, and vice versa - but I wouldn't expect the game to be made overly difficult. I also would like to know how it goes. Even if I'll never be able to play it that way myself. Labyrinths of Lunacy plays up to 12, but unfortunately it breaks each group into a max of 4. Also, it's not out yet. VermillionDe 70 Posted February 13, 2018 Thanks Duciris. Im going to bring it to my group on saturday when we play our next chapter. It may also give us some flexibility when people arent around. Honestly, I'm more concerned about the game balance than I am about card scarcity. Two of my group have their own cards and the rest of us use mine, but I have 4 core sets (in the beginning I was the only one who bought anything). I'll see what my group wants, but if thwyre cool with trying 5 then we'll do it and report back. I can't be the only one who's curious.
Buhallin 4,563 Posted February 13, 2018 We played the core with 5, but not Dunwich. We didn't see any issues with it at all. There are occasional places where instructions are count-specific, but overall it worked well.
