Three Ship First Order Lists w/Silencer

Recommended Posts

I'm enough of a narrative geek that flying mixed Imp/FO squads tilts my teeth. I also enjoy too much black paint in my squads. I've been thinking about things to fly with a Silencer (even though I think the model looks ungainly). It's enough of a points hog that pushing a list with one to more than three ships results in a microswarm+one model—doable, but better probably better in theory than in practice, especially if you're sticking with First Order ships. (I love my TIE/fos, but squashing four epsilons with a skinny Silencer is getting the worst of both worlds.)

Here are a couple of options I've muddled through, probably not fantastic. If folks have lists to share or suggestions for either of these, go for it--as long as they're FO squads. I already know silencer+gunboats is hawt.

Blackout Zetas

Test Pilot "Blackout" (31): Push the Limit (3), Collision Detector (0), Primed Thrusters (1), Autothrusters (2), First Order Vanguard (2)

Zeta Specialist (23): Accuracy Corrector (3), Sensor Cluster (2), Lightweight Frame (2), Special Ops Training (0) (x2)

Total: 99

Why? Because I love the Silencer+double sf bit from TLJ. The silencer is Blackout because sticking with a generic didn't net me enough points to do anything that seemed particularly interesting. I suspect there's hay to be made rebuilding the Silencer in this set-up from the ground up.

Kylomega

Kylo Ren (TIE Silencer) (35)Push the Limit (3), Advanced Sensors (3), Primed Thrusters (1), Autothrusters (2),First Order Vanguard (2)

Zeta Specialist (23): Collision Detector (0), Harpoon Missiles (4), Primed Thrusters (1), Lightweight Frame (2), Special Ops Training (0)

"Omega Ace" (20): Veteran Instincts (1), Advanced Optics (2)

Total: 99

This one seems more solid, with a squirrely Kylo and some affordable crit generation.

So what have you got? Batwing and a Silencer and a blocker? Emaciated Kylo and some sfs?

On the top list, I’m not 100% sure on the math, but I’m pretty sure you’ll get more damage output with FCS than Accuracy Corrector. That’ll free up two points for you to place elsewhere. Perhaps Adv Sensors on blackout.

The math on AccC vs FCS depends on range, and on how often you'll spend focus defensively or take barrel rolls.  With 3-dice attacks, not spending focus on offense, AccC hits harder until you get like 4 total attacks with FCS.  2.125 * 2 > 1.5 + 2.25; 2.125 * 3 > 1.5 + 2.25 + 2.25.  If you set up a FCS target lock, the move into Range 1 and spend a focus, that's more offense than AccC.  However, AccC allows you to have full offense while barrel rolling, while taking red moves, while spending focus defensively, and while switching targets.

The more suspect upgrade is Sensor Cluster.  In order for it to be worthwhile, you have to roll no focus results while defending.  However, you've got a sort-of 3 agility ship due to LWF, so I feel like most of the time you'll have an Eyeball or two.  I'd consider switching them for Pattern Analyzer (full actions on red moves), Primed Thrusters (being able to BR on a red, and still have AccC keeping up your offense is nice), or leaving the slots open and running Advanced Sensors/Advanced Optics on Test Pilot Blackout.

List 2, Kylo is fine (I think I'd rather have Advanced Optics, but there isn't a right answer there, just preferences).  I don't really like the Zeta Specialist here, though.  I feel like at this low PS, it'll be hard to grab the target locks you'd need for Harpoon Missiles.  A Deadeye/Harpoon/GChips Rho would be a little cheaper (toss on Flechette Torpedos to fill out points? 3-dice and GC is a solid hit, and adding stress control can be nice) and more effective in the ordnance role, although not thematic.  Otherwise, sticking with a Zeta similar to the ones in the original list is probably a bit better.  Perhaps upgrade to an Omega, if you can find the points and get a cheap Elite upgrade (VI, Trick Shot, and Crack Shot seem like the best ones to me).

Fiddled a bit with the SF in the second list and ended up, for the same 30 points, with:

Omega Specialist (25)
A Score to Settle (0)
Collision Detector (0)
Harpoon Missiles (4)
Primed Thrusters (1)
Guidance Chips (0)
Special Ops Training (0)

Full list still comes in at 99 points (Kylo and Omega Ace unchanged): View in Yet Another Squad Builder

ASTS and the lack of LWF make the SF somewhat vulnerable, but also turn it into a more reliable crit generator. I haven't spent enough time with ordnance lately to have a good read on whether PS 5 is going to be enough to get the harpoon missile off. Obviously a Black One at higher PS can peel the lock off, but Omega Ace's lock is as much a potential threat as the SF's.

ASTS can also, of course, be swapped out for trick shot.

So, here is just a couple ideas, because I love the theme:

Omega Strike - A Hit and Run List

Kylo (PTL, Adv. Sensors, Adv. Optics, AT, FOV), Omega Ace (VI, Adv. Optics), Omega Leader (Juke, Comm Relay)

Outmaneuver

Blackout (Trick Shot, Collision Detector, Adv. Optics, AT, FOV)

2x Zeta Specialists (AccCorr, LWF, Pattern Analyzer, Title)
