Factions

Multiple factions is only really viable if they do big releases (think Wave 6 in X-wing).

I think a commander, one corps unit, a specialist or spec ops, and a heavy should be enough. Followed by a few more boxes a month or two later, kind of like what they are doing here initially.

What about Rebels (Alliance, Partisans, Resistance and maybe separatist holdouts), imperial (Galactic Empire, First Order and maybe close factions like the mining guild) and scum (Major crime syndicates, pirate factions and maybe mandalorian clans) being the primary factions and having a fourth mercenary faction whichs units are available to multiple factions (like Boba Fet scum and imperial only) but with a twist. I think that could be that mercenaries can't be affected by friendly command cards (both special effects and timed activation) since they are not integrated in the military structure and are not used to fighting alongside the main force.

Start with combined sub-factions (Empire and First Order separately named but can be in same army). Then as there are enough points in each sub faction you split, though that will likely just be player choice and not officially mandated.

I am really hoping they dont combine first order with the galactic empire.. in my opinion they are two distinct factions (albeit very similiar). Im also hoping in ep9 whatever remains of the galactic empire helps the rebels out lol..

im kinda outa the loop on the "new" lore besides watching the movies but in the old lore the remains of the galactic empire and new republic actually team up when the galaxy gets invaded by some other race, whose name escapes me at the moment. Someone help me out here lol..

Yuuzhan Vong. Which were a really stupid OP race that was invisible in the Force because reasons.

I believe in the new canon the First Order IS the Imperial Remnant. From Wookiepedia:  "In spite of the Empire's collapse, its legacy survived in the Unknown Regions of the galaxy, where former members of the Imperial Military plotted their return to power."

The state of the Empire in the sequel trilogy is kind of an untouched mystery. We know that the peace of Jakku granted them their own territory after which an offshoot/splinter group, the First Order, went to the unknown regions were they build a new state. As far as I am aware no one knows what happened to the rest except that they were in a pretty terrible state at the time of the First Orders exodus.

According to the canon (albeit terrible) Aftermath Series the Imperial Remnant became a toothless state that was independent in name only amd had New Republic people monitoring it constantly. The first order is basically Sloane and whatever military troops/ships/vehicles that Gallius Rax had sent before and what the Emperor had sent to the Unknown Regions earlier

I hope they do multiple army factions similar to 40k. Imperial, Rebel, Trade Federation, Jedi clone army, Mandalorians, Old Republic Sith, Resistance, First Order, various giant creatures/alien races... basically ignoring a time lime. Take a look at the old Star Wars miniatures game. Add keywords for joint armies (light side/neutral/dark side).

I don't care if it's Disney Canon.

I think they will dominate 40k if they do.

I would really like to see 4+ but I’m not sure that it will happen. FFG seem pretty set on rebels, imperials, and everyone else (scum.) I think that there is enough in the lore that we could see many different factions. Especially seeing as there won’t be an absurd amount of minis at the table each game anyway.

I play every FFG Star Wars game at least a tiny bit casually. So I'm definitely going to pick up this game's core set. But I'm not likely to buy anything else. The game looks pretty expensive, so I only want to heavily invest if I could find something I really love. So I just wanted to say that if I can have an army of Clone Troopers, that would definitely change how much money I'd spend on this. Don't get me wrong, it looks super fun, it's just that between Rebels, Rogue One, and all the Marvel comics, even I am getting a little burnt out on the Episode IV-VI timeframe and I'd like to have Clone Wars factions and Episodes VII-IX factions. So yeah, looking forward to painting the minis and playing the game casually, but if FFG is reading this, I want them to know that they'll probably make $1000+ off of me the day they announce Clone Wars expansions.

I would love some clone wars factions as well. I can see why ffg shys away at clone wars stuff but honestly it would be a huge missed opportunity. Clone troopers led by jedi and droid armies led by federation and sith would just be awesome. The clone wars movies are pretty meh but I've watched the cartoon series like 3 full times (it is for the kids hunny..lol), its just an awesome series all around.

Would be a great excuse to release yoda too. First episode is yoda with a few clone troopers fighting off an entire droid detachment and count dookus apprentice. If that doesn't scream "table top skirmish", "star wars legions" and "release me ffg" i dont know what does...

The Clone Wars was the ****. Rebels isn’t bad but it just isnt living up to clone wars. In clone wars, people die. Main characters die. Not in Rebels. (So far, I haven’t watched any of season 4). But back to the subject at hand, i would definitely buy clone wars era stuff. Im going to buy this anyway but if they bring out clone troopers, there goes my wallet

Yeah i won't lie star wars legions with multiple factions will be dangerous for my wallet. Yeah in 40k there's like 10+ factions.. one or two grab my eye even with the stellar lore. Star wars universe?? Oh geez... lol.  I'm going to have a rebel and imperial army automatic,  if they release clone troopers i'll need to have that too. Droids? Yup. Scum? Yup. Just super dangerous.. lol

Remember this is reinforced Platoon level combat. Not galactic. Not  epic. I can see Scum (think gang war level) and maybe Clone Wars, but I don't think we need 40K like armies. Disney will be doing  one-off movies for star wars so they could introduce a new faction that way. I don't have a problem with them doing wave releases of new factions, thereby not having to add something imperial/rebel each wave.
