AngryAlbatross 786 Posted January 22, 2018 How does Rebel Fenn Rau work against ships that let them attack a second time? Specifically against Quickdraw/Dengar and Jostero? Is the ship becoming active again and can he use his ability if he is not already stressed?
theBitterFig 11,598 Posted January 22, 2018 Let's look at the text. So. Fenn Rau triggers when a ship "becomes the active ship during the Combat phase." So it only triggers against Dengar or Quickdraw when they hit their pilot skill in the order. If someone takes a shield off of Quickdraw (or shoots Dengar) before she's had her activation, I don't believe Fenn Rau has the ability to trigger and prevent QD from modifying her dice by spending tokens. Likewise, if QD or Dengar is attacking outside the Combat phase, prior to having become the active ship. However, the last line of Fenn's text is "that ship cannot spend tokens to modify its dice when attacking this round." So if Fenn Rau is able to trigger on QD's activation before she's lost a shield yet this round, when she eventually loses a shield, she won't be able to modify her dice by spending tokens. This would also apply to someone like a Corran Horn, I believe, with his end-of-combat attack. That's still an attack "this round" and Fenn Rau's ability won't have worn off yet. This is predicated on an interpretation that "becoming the active ship in the Combat phase" refers only to the normal pilot-skill sequence. When performing an attack out of sequence, I don't think that gives Fenn Rau the opportunity to trigger. I could be wrong on that. 2 tangoraven and AngryAlbatross reacted to this
TrooperTK422 1 Posted January 22, 2018 From page 4 of the Rules Reference: ACTIVE SHIP: The ship that is currently resolving the Activation or Combat phase is the active ship. So, I think each ship only becomes the "active" ship once during the combat phase, regardless of how many times they shoot. Example: You've got Fenn at PS11 with initiative, your opponent has PS11 Quickdraw. Fenn would shoot first, let's say he deals one damage to QD, and removes a shield. QD then gets to take his revenge shot, because he hasn't become the "active" ship yet, Fenn can't lock his tokens, so if he has a Target Lock or a Focus he can spend it on that attack. Then after that's done, QD becomes the Active ship, and Fenn's ability triggers, and locks any tokens QD has.
AngryAlbatross 786 Posted January 22, 2018 So the next time I plan strip Quickdraws shields, make sure that Fenn uses his ability when Quickdraw first shoots, don't wait till the 2nd because then its too late. Thanks!
ThisIsDavin 59 Posted January 22, 2018 (edited) If You (potentially as VI Fenn at PS11) shoot at QuickDraw and take off a shield, their opportunity to shoot back will be fully modified (They are not "activating", they are "triggering" as part of your activation). Then if they activate at their lower PS Skill, you can prevent token use for dice modifications on THAT attack. You cant strip tokens when QuickDraw "First" shoots in that case.... so really, you need to make the decision if you want to shoot at QuickDraw or not Edited January 22, 2018 by ThisIsDavin
