Will we ever get a new ****ing article....

Recommended Posts

We've had nothing of value since HotE dropped.

There was a "here's an app" (neat but not skirmish related) and "here's a new tourney map." How about info on the next wave? Or a statement such as, "don't worry IA we aren't abandoning you for the newer, younger, and sexier Legion. We are still invested in your growth even though we haven't shown an interest in nearly 4 months. Much Love, FFG"

Communication would be nice. Just a basic "We have things in the pipeline" would be a great start.

These have all been said before but I'll post them again because I'm bored at work.

We probably won't get anything until after Legion drops. Probably more like a month after Legion drops to help FFG keep up the hype of their new money maker. I'd like to see something sooner, but the app is what we've got for now.

Legion is not in direct competition IA. While the skirmish aspects have some similarities, they are vastly different and scratch different itches for different people. I've never been into open field style combat like Legion. But I've been playing grid based games since Hero Quest was released in the states. At the current time I have no interest in purchasing Legion, if I do ever end up opening my wallet, it will be because I want the minis to showcase, or because I can integrate them into IA somehow.

FFG isn't good at keeping the lines of communication open. This could just be their Star Wars based games and some NDA stuff with Disney, or it could be across the board (I don't play or follow any other FFG stuff).

As long as IA is making money, they're not going to abandon it. But nobody really knows what sort of profit margin they get on IA. You can infer from the size of organized play events the health of IA, but it's hardly a proper measuring stick since the campaign aspect is just as much a part of the game if not more so that skirmish.

Anecdotally, I've heard that playtesters are testing the next Wave for IA so we wouldn't get any news for that release until the testing process is complete. I am also under the impression that the overall game design team is very small, so while the majority of that staff and resources may have been invested in Legion heavily, that's not to say work won't resume on IA once Legion is on sale.

Agree completely that the games are VERY much different. Therefore give us a **** article on the next wave. If they are different they won't be competing directly, so whats the problem?

Their communication is always up and down, mainly down, and this is an absurd amount of time without an article.

I don't honestly think they will stop producing IA, yet this doesn't give me much hope.

I know there is something in the pipeline, but why they can't share that baffles me. Obviously I don't work there so why would I? The best answer anyone can come up with is that they are waiting on Legion (thestag isnt the first to suggest this), but in the same breath say legion isn't a competition, so that isn't a good reason at all.

Maybe you should write one. Stop waiting for the manufacturers approval and take back the hobby.

Lol I can hardly put together a coherent sentence.

It is my understanding that Imperial Assault is currently developed by 2 (1/2?) people full time. Todd for sure does not develop any Legion content. Also, the Legion core box should hit shelves any day now. Considering that it takes 4-6 Months from the moment of starting production to actual first sale, I am very confident that development on the Legion core box concluded around the time it was announced and was done by the time it was demoed. Legion development is with expansions now (just like IAs development). The release of Legion should have no impact on IA development.

That being said: I think there is merit to the idea that FFG does not want to crowd out its own marketing articles. Legion hype and the SW:LCG being retired did occupy some attention. So the release of Legion might see a new opportunity of IA news. However, with 2 big items released in December, I don't expect more than a 3 part pack wave somewhen in March or April.

Sorry, man.  We are the ex-wives now. And we don't even have recourse for alimony.

Okay, so do not answer this if if somehow breaks NDA, but does anyone know if all IA components are community playtested, or just boxed expansions?

If this anecdote is true, and if FFG doesn't community playtest the blister waves, that could imply that we're getting another box next.

For all we know this was referring to the latest update of the app which introduced all the villians.

but I would love it if another expansion was on the way.

You can check this yourself, if you've kept the packaging. The paper packaging in each component lists the playtesters that have tested each item.

FWIW, I recall seeing playtesters for the blisters. Haven't specifically checked, though.

Interesting.  I don't have the packaging anymore, but do have the skirmish sheets- not sure if they'd be on there or not.

Can anyone confirm?

Could that be an issue of space? They have the whole rule book in a boxed expansion to list credits. Not much room in a blister pack. Just a thought.

Isn't the credits written on that flap of paper at the back of the blister, the one that's folded over the components with the blurp on the back?

Yes. And there’s not much space after you list all the people paid to help design the game. I just looked at the back of Boba Fett’s pack (which I managed to snag at Sparta Games when I was up there for the Omaha Regional).

Yeah, I'm not sure.  I don't think we can get a conclusive answer, since I'd assume someone would have to break NDA (which again, it would totally not be worth it for either of us).

I guess I'd be pretty surprised if playtesters weren't listed, since that seems kinda shady (especially if they do get credit on larger releases) but at the same time I'd be surprised if the smaller releases didn't get a community playtest.

Welcome to springtime, when speculations go wild and we overthink everything.

There isn't a whole lot of free space where they have it at, but there are ways to add content if you need to. I don't think the space restriction would have stopped them if they wanted or needed to, it would have just forced a re-design.
