Game Mat recommendations?

Recommended Posts

So I want to pick up some 6x3 game mats to use when Legion comes out. I've been looking at Game Matz and Deep Cut Studios as possible prospects. Any thoughts or recommendations regarding those or any other comparable offering would be appreciated.

You want a solid game mat that's pretty cheap? Pick up a 6 x 3 yoga mat off amazon or whatever. It's thick so it isn't flimsy and has a solid grip so your miniatures don't slip around. Then you can paint/decorate it as much as you'd like. It's what I used in armada when I was on a budget. if you have the funds, go for some of the other suggestions, but if you want something that's pragmatic and affordable, do the yoga mat.

Same here. And its a great mat.

Deep cut studios have some great looking mats, as well take a look at some of the 6x4' they have. You could always use 6 inches on each side (the 4ft side) for your cards ect, then the game size will be right.

This is also a great help

I purchased the FAT mat as they have a reseller in Australia so the postage doesn't involve body parts.

That is the main reason I choose the FAT mat. Yeh, obviously I'm also in the great southern land!!

Was looking at Fat mats, what one did you go with. The 6x3 forest mat looks pretty glaring contrast between dirt and grass but feels a bit more endorie than the 6x4 grassy plains.

I have the 6x3 grassy plains 2.

I am in the process of building terrain based on Terrain Tutor youtube (in this he uses filla foam from a can to build hill and rocks, his look great) and I have just gathered my supplies to start this weekend on it.

As well looking to do some tree clumps the same as Sorastros youtube on this.

I figured I spent up on the mat, that I can make some terrain to make it look great. Once finished i'll share some pics!

Really great recommendations, I'm really liking what I see from Deep Cut Studios! What is the preferred Mat type, PVC or Mousepad?

Great thread. I just ordered a wasteland 6' x 3' mat for the first time through Deep Cut Studios!

I just looked at the wasteland mat, do they offer in 3x6? the dropdown selection only had 4x4, 4x6 and 3x3.

@OldSchoolEmpire Unfortunately, they don't carry this specific Wasteland map in 6x3 so i had to put out the extra cash to make it custom. I'm from New Jersey so the shipping costed me an arm and a leg, but I can't wait to play it! Also, it seems that mousepad has the best surface from other vids I watched about it.

@Soulless Whats your preference or experience with PVC or Mousepad?

Imo, "mousepad" (neoprene) is absoutely better and more enjoyable to play on. It looks better (not as shiny as pvc tend to be) and feels great, to pick up tokens and cards and roll dice on.

I've started making my own for Bolt Action, which I sadly got way too into as practice for Legion but oh well. Its easy, cheap, and looks much better than almost anything you can purchase.

Can you please post some more pics of this?  I really really like this and would consider going with this same approach.  Thanks!

@AmanalYea this is a beautiful setup. Love the trees! Did you follow your own guide when making the trees , or do you have one you could point to as a good reference?
