The Durandal Initiative: We're Back

I've been beaten in to some serious indecision.  @SgtDurandal's Sloane fleets have just completely destroyed me.  I probably didn't fly my fleets well against him but still.  I have no confidence whatsoever so now it's just a mad scramble of fleet building.. which is probably counter-productive.  But it seems therapeutic so off I go!

After playing two regionals and finishing 3rd and 7th in them I would be running this list for a third regional if I could go.  Unfortunately Denver is way to far to drive from here.

(399/400)

Rebels Commander: Admiral Ackbar

Objectives: Advanced Gunnery, Dangerous Territory, Capture the VIP

[flagship] MC80 Assault Cruiser (114) - Admiral Ackbar (38) - Defiance (5) - Early Warning System (7) - Electronic Counter Measures (7) - Leading Shots (4) - Damage Control Officer (5) - Engine Techs (8) - XI7 Turbolasers (6) = 194 total points

MC30c Torpedo Frigate (63) - Admonition (8) - Lando Calrissian (4) - Assault Proton Torpedoes (5) - H9 Turbolasers (8) - Ordnance Experts (4) = 92 total points

GR-75 Medium Transports (18) = 18 total points

GR-75 Medium Transports (18) - Comms Net (2) = 20 total points

GR-75 Medium Transports (18) - Comms Net (2) = 20 total points

Squadrons (55/134): 1x Shara Bey A-wing Squadron (17) 2x A-Wing Squadron (22) 1x Tycho Celchu A-Wing Squadron (16)

The A wings are defense and kept at close range of the MC80.

Just my two cents if you are in the middle of list rebuilding.  If you don't have early warning system, just exchange that for reinforced blast doors.

Ok.. in my "making Ackbar great again" line of thinking I'm going to try this out.  I'm hoping that with the 75 at the front it will discourage people from cutting off my conga line.  ECM because I hate seeing my big ships melt because of no brace.  I should have enough squads to stop an alpha and then be able to do some damage with Flak.  If I get stupid you might even see an Ackbar Slash!

Name: Untitled Fleet
Faction: Rebel
Commander: Admiral Ackbar

Assault: Advanced Gunnery
Defense: Contested Outpost
Navigation: Solar Corona

MC75 Armored Cruiser (104)
• Strategic Adviser (4)
• Veteran Gunners (5)
• Electronic Countermeasures (7)
• XI7 Turbolasers (6)
= 126 Points

MC80 Assault Cruiser (114)
• Admiral Ackbar (38)
• Walex Blissex (5)
• Medical Team (1)
• Early Warning System (7)
• Electronic Countermeasures (7)
• Leading Shots (4)
• Defiance (5)
= 181 Points

GR-75 Medium Transports (18)
• Comms Net (2)
= 20 Points

GR-75 Medium Transports (18)
= 18 Points

Squadrons:
• 2 x A-wing Squadron (22)
• Shara Bey (17)
• Tycho Celchu (16)
= 55 Points

Total Points: 400

@durandal343

Personally I would drop the two a wings to get engine techs on the mc80, take ordnance pods, leading shots and gunnery teams on the mc75.  Ordnance pods are amazing especially if you flak the same turn.  Kills generics forces aces to take damage or burn scatters.

Put the pods on and dropped Med Team and Comms Net to make room.  I want the rerolls from Veteran Gunners with all the red dice and I'm leery of going down to the Tycho/Shara fighter screen.

It’s pretty effective if you have the rest.  I’ll try to tune in and see this in action.

With Regionals less than a month away we continue to tweak our fleets. durandal343 decides to shelve the MC30 Mothma fleet and try out the new hotness... Admiral Raddus. Will SgtDurandal's Sloan Avenger fleet be able to handle this new madness? Tune in Thursday to find out.

Great match yesterday gents! I think some valuable things were learned for your upcoming trip.

I was really thinking about that Sloane build, and propose a slight amendment:

Durandal option (400/400)
========================
Imperial II-class Star Destroyer (120 + 53)
    + Admiral Sloane (24)
    + Strategic Adviser (4)
    + Boarding Troopers (3)
    + Electronic Countermeasures (7)
    + Leading Shots (4)
    + XI7 Turbolasers (6)
    + Avenger (5)
Quasar Fire I-class Cruiser-Carrier (54 + 21)
    + Captain Brunson (5)
    + Flight Controllers (6)
    + Expanded Hangar Bay (5)
    + Stronghold (5)
Gozanti-class Cruisers (23 + 2)
    + Comms Net (2)
Maarek Stele (21)
Colonel Jendon (20)
Dengar (20)
Howlrunner (16)
Captain Jonus (16)
Saber Squadron (12)
2 x Tie Interceptor Squadron (2 x 11)

I still think the kuat has potential, and on the II, BT could be swapped for GT if you downgrade an ace (jonus) for a swarm generic.

Those are some good suggestions. Not sure about the expanded hangers on the Quasar. Early game is the only time I have enough of the fighters in activation range to do 5 with a token. Not sure I want to invest more points that I'll only use 1 turn. But I think you're right that I need to find a way to get ECMs on whatever ISD I take. I have a Kuat build I've been keeping stashed away that I may bring out to see how it does with this fleet.

As always, appreciate the suggestions!

6 activations of squads (with a token) will alpha any squad ball to dust. You want to spam that first strike as hard as possible. It's not necessary, as 5 is still decent, and opens up some points for something else, but consider hanging the fighters back until you can Nova a large number of their squads.

EWS. Depends on many combat ships and (especially) squadrons you're seeing across the table, but it can be enormously useful. Takes good foresight and skill to get the most of. I managed to completely screw it up with a pair of Doom pickles, but P poor play does not contradict the general point. Just watched two games where EWS was ridiculously effective.

While this card is great, ECM is the better choice here. Watch the match and see how that pickle creams the cymoon with broadsides + accuracies.

This ISD needs to tank against ships, his squads can cover.

I have to agree with you both. In the last match EWS was great for the MC80 and the ISD desperately needed it brace. It was forced to take 9 damage and then 9 damage again the next round due to single acc rolls each attack. A single brace would have saved a total of 8 damage over 2 turns where as EWS would have stopped 2. So while I do think EWS is a great card ECM would be better for this ISD build.

Ok, so we had to take a week off due to everyone in western SoDak getting sick. So much child throw up.... *shudder*

Anyways! We're back to prepping for the Denver Regional in Broomfield. Only 9 days away! Stream should start up around 830 pm MST. Come check it out and drop us a line in the chat!

Well it was a long day. Met some really awesome people in Broomfield and at Total Escape Games. We were also lucky in that The Durandal Initiative made a pretty good showing at Regionals. We'll try and get an edited video of our trip up this week or next week but in the meantime...
