It's Finally 1995 Again...

Okay, so just for fun, I came up with this list.

But then I thought it would be fun to host a sort of.... Star Wars: TIE Fighter squad building challenge. So my challenge is basically this:

1. Make a squad. Either 100 point, or 300 Epic.

2. You must have Maarek Steele

3. You must have at least one Gunboat

4. You may have other ships, but it must have appeared in TIE Fighter (so for instance, no Punishers or Aggressors)

5. If you do Epic, you can have a Raider but not a Gozanti

6. Maarek and Vader are the only Unique pilots you may use

 

They don't have to be super optimum squads, just have fun with them. Also if you have a good story that influenced your decision, go ahead and talk about it a bit. I have a good one but I'll save it for later if I get a couple replies in here.

So, as a person who really never got into computer games, this whole thing makes me say "Wha?  Whose is this Maarek guy and why do I care?"

But, I think it's cool that this game has finally reached the depth and breadth to appeal to many different types of SW fans.  (We could just use some Prequel love.)

He's the supposed main character that you play as in the game. One of the abilities you have in that game is to use your targeting computer to select individual subsystems of the ships you are firing at (such as the turbolasers or warhead launchers of enemy capital ships) and destroy them. It's believed this is the inspiration behind Maarek's pilot ability (cherrypicking crits).

Meh, if you really want to base it off the games, I'd rather throw in a Corellian Corvette as a stand-in for a CR92a.

I know it's cross-faction, but still...

I meant cross-faction in the Miniatures game.  In the PC games, there were quite a few craft used by both sides (Rebel commanders using Lambda shuttles, for instance).

Actually you end in a Missile Boat...which was somehow supposed to be a counter for the Defender...god I hated that mission so much.

I know that’s what I meant XD. 

I mean it would probably be frowned upon at a real tournament but epic tournaments are few and far between, so...

Personally, /x7 never seemed as interesting to me as /D.  Yeah, it's cheaper and helps you stay alive longer, but there's just something fun about getting to attack twice a round from the same ship, you know?  (Especially with an Ion Cannon.)

AAAACTUALLY the last mission is flown in a TIE Avenger (Advanced). And you're being targeted by Defenders literally the second the mission starts.

Wow, so I have a lot to catch up on.... I downloaded the game on GOG and have been playing it again off and on since the GenCon announcement in celebration. I’m in the Zaarin arc where you’re constantly waging war against that traitor and you’re always in a defender... figured I had to be getting close to the end story.

Yeah you get sort of a downgrade in the last few missions. It's really hard to go from Missile Boat to Gunboat all of a sudden... And from Defender to Advance.
