Spanish Legion 'unboxing' and full rulebook flick-through (with pics)

I found this video taken by Battletricks from the Spanish 'Game On' event in Madrid this weekend. Even though everything is in Spanish, it shows all the unpainted Legion miniatures close-up as well as doing a rough unboxing. It also includes a quick flick-through of the entire rulebook, again in Spanish. Thought some of you might find it interesting, plus if there are any fluent Spanish speakers around you might be able to glean some new info from it. I've also added some screens from the video underneath it for your viewing pleasure.

Not super happy about that plastic....I think I see a bendy gunbarrel in that photo of the box contents already, though might be my imagination (and actually the more I look the more I think it's my eyes playing tricks).

And to be fair the speeder bike forks and AT-ST skinny parts all seem straight as an arrow.

Hopefully won't be too bad!

I think it's just the angle of the pic. He picks that actual figure up just afterwards and it looks straight. Luke's lightsaber also looks fine, though interestingly they do include this in the rulebook:

It's probably included just as a precaution, but they may have experienced this problem enough times to require it.

This! That is what made me more happy! Headswaps and conversions will be a breeze! Now I just hope the plastic is compatible with the plastic glue (the GW one that kinda merges the plastic instead of only gluing it), if that's the case and the conversion rules are not too strict we will see a lot of "hobby" content in this game).

depends on who's mod rules they adopt.

If it's the other starwars titles not so good........ if they adopt a runewars approach it only implies they must still be recognizable as what they are and be ffg product

A few tidbits from the rulebook, though not much new info:

 

Locked miniatures

As long as an infantry unit is in a melee attack with another infantry unit, it is said that those units are locked. Only infantry can be locked body to body, vehicles can be in close combat, but they can not be locked. A locked unit can not make a ranged attack, it can not be selected as a target for ranged attacks, and it can not perform actions that are not melee attacks. To stop being locked and to move away, a unit must make a withdrawal by devoting all its activation to carry out a movement at Speed 1. A retreating unit can not do anything else during its activation except to perform this movement at Speed 1.
 

Leaders and cover

When a unit leader is in contact with a barricade in front of him, you can ignore the barricade when attacking, but still count it when defending.
 

Alert action

The alert action allows the infantry units to delay their action. If a unit has not made its own attack, it may carry out an alert action. An Alert token is placed on the battlefield, next to the leader of the infantry unit that has carried out this action. An infantry unit can not carry out an alert action if it has already made an attack during its activation. Only infantry units can carry out alert actions.
 

Alert tokens

After an enemy unit within range 1-2 performs an action, an infantry unit with an assigned Alert token may spend this token to perform an attack or movement.

If an infantry unit receives a Cowering token or executes a movement, attack or any action, it must discard its Alert token. A unit can not have more than one Alert token assigned.
 

Preparation of the game

1. Establish the battlefield and gather the components

2. Define terrain

Before starting to play, it is important to determine what the effects of the different terrains used will be. The players have to examine the elements of scenery available and specify what kind of coverage each one offers and the special properties that they may have.

3. Place the terrain

The players must agree where to place the terrain elements. If they do not manage to agree or prefer to resort to another method, they can use the rules described in the "Competitive terrain placement" section of the Reference Guide (available online).

4. Choose sides and colours

The player whose army costs the least amount of points chooses between being the red player or the blue player. Next, the blue player chooses one of the wide sides of the battlefield and arranges his army next to it. The red player occupies the other wide side of the battlefield. If the armies of both players have the same cost in points, a coin is tossed to determine which of the players can choose between blue and red.

5. Show battle cards

Decks of Objective, Deployment and Condition cards are shuffled separately. Next, three cards of each deck are drawn and shown, distributing them in horizontal rows according to their type and oriented towards the side of the playing surface corresponding to the blue player.

 

Terrain and elevation

Players are encouraged to use customised scenery of different heights in games of Star Wars Legion. The rules for this can be found in the Reference Guide (available online). The Reference Guide also contains specific rules for moving up and down vertical terrain. Units with the "expert climber" and "climber vehicle" keywords such as the AT-RT can reach elements of scenery that represent high terrain.

That's oddly specific.

Sound like a misinterpretation or theres a step missing.

Target is objective

Deployment....

Condition is the battlefeild conditions (limited visability or reserve rules)

3 of each is going to be awfully chaotic unless it's like armada and the players pick between them.

What the other people said -

What was oddly specific was the the description on arranging them in horizontal rows with a specific orientation, rather than just "reveal the top three of each" or whatever.

Probably just to ensure that the blue deployment zone is on the same side of the table as the blue player.

Quick Reference

Round sequence

One game takes place over six rounds of play. Each round consists of the following three phases:

Control phase

Players must complete the following steps:

1. Select a Command Card: Each player secretly chooses a Command Card from his hand and places it face down on the playing surface. Afterwards, both players simultaneously show their cards.

2. Determine priority: The player who has the card with the fewest dots has priority over his opponent. If both cards have the same number of dots, the player currently with the round indicator rolls a red Defense die. If you get a block on the die, you will have priority over your opponent. Otherwise, it will be his adversary who has priority over him.

3. Issue orders: Beginning with the player with priority, each player appoints an allied commander and uses it to issue orders. The number of orders that can be given is indicated in the order bar of the chosen Command card.

Activation phase

Starting with the player with priority, the players take turns activating one of their units that they have not activated, for which they must follow these steps:

1. Choose a unit: The player chooses between selecting a unit that has been assigned an Order token face up or taking a random Order token from his Order pool and choosing a unit of the same category that does not already have an assigned face up Order token.

2. Activate the unit: The player activates the designated unit, rolls the dice to eliminate Cowering and checks if the unit is affected by Panic. The unit can perform a maximum of two actions (plus the relevant free actions).

3. Place the Order token: The player takes the Order token for the unit and places it face down on the battlefield next to the unit leader.

Final phase

Players reset the battlefield by completing the following steps:

1. Withdraw Tokens: Players remove all Targeted Attack and Dodge tokens from the battlefield, return their Order tokens to their corresponding Unit cards, and remove a Cowering token from each unit.

2. Designate a new commander: If all the commanders of a player have been defeated, he must choose the leader of an infantry unit and appoint him as a new commander.

3. Advance the round indicator: The player who currently has the round indicator turns it to mark the next number and then gives it to his opponent.
