Peter Piper Picked a Peck of Pickled Poes

Recommended Posts

Okay hive-mind!  I need help!  I have NEVER had this hard a time picking upgrades as I have for POE!

I have narrowed it down to the last two though: Intensity or Veteran Instincts.  I know everything else I want to run with him, I just need to choose between these two!

Intensity means he is PS 8.

Veteran Instincts means he is PS 10.

I will be running a Phantom 2 and Auzituck Gunship with him.

Help me decide!

It sadly comes down to more than one upgrade.

intensity is okay on a t-70, but it really shines with B.B.-8 and comm relay (soon to be replaced by advanced optics). If your not taking BB-8, you’ll probably be better off with VI or Ps9 Poe with adaptability.

VI is better suited to regen Poe (or almost any other Poe build really) who likes R2-D2 or R5-P9.

You need to find the points to take the PS9 with intensity.

Or take him with VI, because he get's murdered at PS8

Thank you.

Could you elaborate on how he gets murdered at PS8?  Is it because he's moving before the murderers, or is it because he can't boost to shed a TL?

Intensity seems like so much fun, but I'm leaning towards VI.

I've always considered Intensity a means by which Poe could (almost) always have a focus token.  Advanced Optics soon does that better, so I think Intensity is out.  Assuming you're taking Advanced Optics (maybe you aren't?), I'd go VI.

Yeah, both. He can’t stop the alpha, and he also moves before Nym, which allows for some reactive bombing. Plus Fenn is making a come-back, and you really need to control range against him, which makes moving last a big deal.

Thanks.

I'm going to have a hard time getting to PS11 because it would take PRS off of Fenn.  Will PS 10 on Poe work you think?  It's a full 100 points.

When I first started playing, I ran PS10 Poe with Regen droid and auto-thrusters to be cheap and cheerful. Worked well, within the list.

The problem Poe has now is there are too many large number attack dice that overwhelm his 2 defence dice. So, he needs to be moving last in order to arc dodge or intensity to give him the evade an make him a little more tanky.

You need Poe at a higher PS because of his pilot ability and the use of the focus token. The lower his pilot skill the likelier it is he will be shot at first, and may need to spend his focus token for defense, in which case he will not be able to mod his attack dice. The higher PS means he shoots first, uses his pilot ability to modify his attack, and can then spend the focus token on defense if necessary.

Poe wants to be at Range 3 with autothrusters, pretty much all the time.

Exactly - so you need to be PS9+ to try and make sure of that. Even then, the lack of a barrel roll puts Poe in an awkward position. I must admit, I've not been able to get him to work for me in the current meta. It's very frustrating.

Is this not just a great meta to be in?

Hey, @Boba Rick, would you mind posting the list you're thinking of? I'm leaning towards Adaptability, but now you've piqued my interest and I want to see the rest! What else will go on Poe? What'll you put on Fenn and the Wookiee?

Sure!  I want to stick with Poe, Fenn, and Wookie, but here is where I'm at.

The major things in play are:

1) Poe's EPT.

2) Fenn's EPT.

3) Jyn Erso or Recon Specialist on the Wookie.

4) Pulse Ray Shield or maybe Rey on Fenn.

I am leaning towards using the last two poins here on Wired for Fenn and VI for Poe.

Thanks for the input!

98 Points (right now)

Wookiee Liberator — Auzituck Gunship 26
Push the Limit 3
Jan Ors 2
Jyn Erso 2
Targeting Computer 2
Ship Total: 35

Poe Dameron (PS8) — T-70 X-Wing 31
R2-D2 4
Advanced Optics 2
Autothrusters 2
Black One 1
Ship Total: 40

Fenn Rau (Sheathipede) — Sheathipede-class Shuttle 20
R2 Astromech 1
Pulsed Ray Shield 2
Ship Total: 23

I think you could put a cheaper maybe 1 pt EPT on Wookie if you have the shuttle coordinating Jyn or what not to the Wookie, which he should be doing and that frees for better EPT or just Rey to bank focus on Fenn early game.

My thoughts, take it for what it’s worth:

1) I would strip the Wookiee down to Expertise, Jan, and maybe Targeting Comp. He has decent greens, but putting PtL on there restricts the dial a bit too much for me. You lose some support ability, but hey, you’ve got Coordinate in the list too.

2) Definitely put Wired on Fenn.

3) Drop the R2 Astro. In most games, I feel like it’s just free points for your opponent; it’ll come in handy once or twice, but the shuttle has decent greens and two arcs; I don’t think R2 is necessary. R3-A2 might be a good control option, though.

4) If you’re short on points (and have a Rebel Transport), R5-P9 is great on Poe—better than R2-D2, I think, barring a stress heavy meta.

5) For the points, VI Poe—preferably 9 Poe—is a great call, especially in this meta.

6) Don’t know how the points shake out with shaving down that Wookiee, but could you upgrade him to Lowhriick? That would be real solid.

Overall, I think it’s actually a solid list. It’s hella tanky, and with Coordinate, Poe is unblockable. I think Fenn has to play really cagey; he’ll pop easy otherwise. Lowhriick could help with that.

@Ailowynn, what do you think of this?  I didn't go with Expertise, but it's a stress-free build and Fenn is tankier.

T-70 X-Wing: •Poe Dameron (41) (PS10)
        Autothrusters (2)
        •Black One (1)
        Veteran Instincts (1)
        •R2-D2 (4)
        Advanced Optics (2)

Sheathipede-class Shuttle: •Fenn Rau (25)
        Wired (1)
        •Chewbacca (4)

Auzituck Gunship: Wookie Liberator (34)
        Predator (3)
        •Jan Ors (2)
        Recon Specialist (3)

Total:  100/100
