Drasnighta 26,831 Posted November 7, 2017 An interesting note here for Star Wars Fans... .. apparently, one of the things that has stopped big re-releases, re-do's and broadcasts of the original Star Wars trilogy is that Fox has the broadcast(?) rights to ANH, whereas Disney owns the rest... ... well... https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/finance-companies/sources-21st-century-fox-has-been-holding-talks-for-a-deal-disney/ar-AAutOrA Apparently, there's On-again/Off-again talks between Disney and Fox, in which Fox would be looking to sell everything but their Broadcast (News) and Sports to Disney.. Absolutely positively zero reason NOT to do this really. Every Star Wars nerd in the galaxy would pay for the OT on whatever medium (Bluray etc) is the best at the time. The fact that they don't want to share is the only thing holding them back now. However, if they bought up this part of Fox, then they wouldn't have to share...and you know they'd fire those out asap. As for X-men in the Marvel universe...I doubt it. I'd bet X-men would get a reboot, but they'd probably be kept as a separate universe. One universe with supers, one with mutants. Eventually though there would be a series of multi-universe crossover movies. While I think this would be good for Star Wars, Marvel, and Disney...I'm actually against it. Disney is getting too large. They are already trying to flex their muscle and push their weight around by restricting movie reviewers for bad press and jacking up prices to theaters for Disney movies. They are also forcing movies to run a certain amount of time and to be exclusive to a single screen. Their new rules have a high probability to do long term damage to smaller non-chain theaters that service smaller, more rural areas of the country. They are closing in having too much control of a marketplace and being able to push other industries around because of it. Fox and Disney are two of the largest movie studios in existence. As a citizen, I oppose these mergers, simply because I am very concerned the new Disney juggernaut would be powerful enough to actually pull off that attempt at bullying the LA Times they backed off on this week. A group of dedicated fans have set about restoring the originals using as much of the original source material as necessary and being creative where it's not available. If you search "Star wars Despecialized" you can find more info. EP IV exists and I've seen it. Brilliant work. Not sure what state the others are in. It's also worth mentioning that the makers highly recommend that you also buy the trilogy on Blu-ray to support it and to counter the argument that you're just trying to pirate the film's for free. I absolutely do not condone stealing/pirating or using illegally any Disney property. martok2112 373 Posted November 21, 2017 Personally, I've never really had much problem with the Special Editions, except for the fact that over several releases on digital media, there have been further tweaks and "corrections"....etc. Greedo shooting first never bothered me that greatly, but I do understand why it is a sticking point with some fans. I was also fortunate enough, at the time they were temporarily released on DVD, to get the original versions of the trilogy. It is a great showcase of history, and it's great to be able to kind of A/B the original and special editions. I would like to see the original editions get rereleased onto blu-ray. But I believe those original negatives no longer exist, having been "baked" to try and restore them for one more run through to get that footage. I hope that they preserved the digital restorations of the original versions so that they can simply be cleaned up (and maybe upscaled) for blu-ray. And of course, every Star Wars lover's big dream would be to see a version that had the deleted scenes in each film. (Some of those scenes may not have been completed, at least on a VFX standpoint, so there would likely be some digital sorcery to be had.)
