Chakado 7 Posted November 4, 2017 Hello all, I have a doubt about Dianne Devine's effect. The card reads : "FORCED - At the beginning of the enemy phase : Find the Bystander asset with the fewest clues on it. Move Dianne Devine to that asset's location, if able". Question is : Is a Bystander with no clue on it the bystander with the fewest clues ? This sounds like the mathematically correct way of thinking, but it makes Dianne incredibly easy to handle. Once a bystander is emptied of its clues, Dianne simply stays at its location and is no bother at all. What was the intent of the designers with this enemy ? BD Flory 695 Posted November 4, 2017 Yes, 0 is the fewest. Dianne is more of an impediment at higher player counts, when it isn't so easy to empty a bystander before she shows up. Even then, she isn't much more than a speed bump, since she's easily defeated. My personal suspicion is she's less a serious obstacle than she is foreshadowing. I wouldn't be surprised to see her again, in some form. She is, after all, wearing yellow. And she is positively divine (and Devine).
zooeyglass 327 Posted November 4, 2017 You got it right, @Chakado - worth noting too that sometimes your 0-clue bystanders.... leave the party in one way or another, at which point Dianne would move to another bystander, if there is one. So misfortune might help her move and impede you. But as BD suggests, she's not much of a roadblock currently.
Chakado 7 Posted November 4, 2017 Thanks a lot for your answers ! Indeed I played solo, with Minh Thi Phan. I really rushed for clue and easily cleaned up two bystanders from their clue befor Dianne showed up. As you said, it must be different with morte players. And yes, I am sure we will see her again. Her amulet seemed familiar too...
catface2377 7 Posted November 4, 2017 I read this differently and read 'fewest clues on it' as having to actually have clues on them. 0 clues means no clues 'on it' and therefore didn't count. Just seemed to me to be more thematic for her and maybe what was intended?
Chakado 7 Posted November 4, 2017 catface2377, I would agree with you, but for example, for the Locked Door : "Attach to the location with the most clues", a location with zero clue is a perfectly valid target. I don't see why it would be different for "the fewest clues". I agree your interpretation is more thematic, but if it is the intended rule, the card is not correctly phrased. 2 Khudzlin and catface2377 reacted to this
Khudzlin 734 Posted November 4, 2017 Yeah, specific wording would be needed to exclude bystanders with no clues.
mwmcintyre 271 Posted November 4, 2017 I actually asked FFG directly about this as I had the exact same question and yes, zero clues counts as having the fewest. That is the official answer.
